If you need a screenshot of a page as it appears in Chrome on an actual Android phone, connect the phone to desktop Chrome with USB debugging and inspect its live tab at chrome://inspect/#devices. For a screenshot of the physical phone display, use Android’s screenshot control instead. Chrome DevTools also offers mobile-viewport screenshots in Device Mode, but those are desktop-emulated captures—not proof of what the connected phone displayed.
Choose the capture that matches your goal
| What you need | Use | What the image represents |
|---|---|---|
| The page as rendered by a particular Android phone and its Chrome browser | Remote debugging, then inspect the live tab | A remotely inspected real-device page. The official remote-debugging instructions explain how to connect and inspect; they do not establish that Device Mode’s screenshot commands capture the remote phone. |
| The physical phone display, including browser or device interface if visible | Android’s built-in screenshot control | The phone screen at the time of capture. What browser or system interface appears depends on how the screenshot is taken. |
| A mobile-sized page view produced on your computer | DevTools Device Mode screenshot commands | An emulated mobile viewport or full page in desktop Chrome, not a capture from the actual Android phone. |
| Just a selected portion of a page in desktop DevTools | Command Menu: Capture area screenshot | The dragged area of the page; DevTools must be docked. |
Google documents remote inspection and Device Mode capture as separate workflows. If you need the actual phone’s rendering, do not assume a Device Mode full-size or device-frame screenshot acts on the remote Android target. Check the current DevTools interface for an appropriate capture action, or take the screenshot on the phone.

Connect an Android phone to Chrome DevTools
Remote debugging lets desktop Chrome inspect live content in Chrome on Android. Google’s guide covers Windows, Mac, and Linux: Remote debug Android devices.

- Enable USB debugging on the phone. Open Android Developer Options and turn on USB debugging. The location and steps for enabling Developer Options can vary by phone.
- Open the device discovery page on the computer. In desktop Chrome, go to
chrome://inspect/#devicesand make sure Discover USB devices is enabled. - Connect the phone directly. Use a USB cable compatible with both devices that supports data, not just charging. Google recommends a direct connection rather than a USB hub when detection fails.
- Authorize the computer. On the first connection, unlock the phone and accept its USB debugging authorization prompt.
- Open the target page on the phone. In Android Chrome, navigate to the website and leave the tab open.
- Inspect the live tab. Find the phone and tab in the device list on the computer, then select Inspect beside that tab. A DevTools window opens for the live page.
The DevTools instance is tied to the Chrome version running on the phone, so an older mobile browser can make the interface differ from what you see in current desktop instructions.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Capture the actual phone screen
If the goal is an image of what is physically displayed on the Android phone, use the phone’s built-in screenshot control. Android’s screenshot gesture or button combination varies by device, so consult the instructions for your specific phone rather than relying on a universal key sequence. Depending on how you capture it, the result may include Chrome’s toolbar or other device interface.
Remote inspection is useful for debugging a page running on the real phone, but the reviewed Chrome instructions do not promise a particular remote-target screenshot command. If the DevTools interface you have does not offer a suitable capture action for that live tab, take the screenshot on the phone.

Capture a mobile viewport or full page with Device Mode
Device Mode runs in desktop DevTools and simulates a mobile viewport. Use it when an emulated mobile layout is acceptable; Google notes that simulation cannot reproduce every aspect of a mobile device and advises testing on an actual device when in doubt. These commands capture the desktop-emulated page, not necessarily a remotely connected phone.
- Open DevTools on the computer and turn on Device Mode using the device toolbar.
- Set the desired device preset or viewport dimensions and load the page.
- Open Device Mode’s More options menu.
- Choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport, or Capture full size screenshot to include page content beyond the viewport.
Use viewport capture when you need only what fits in the simulated screen. Full-size capture is for the page beyond the visible viewport as well; it is not the same as a physical phone-screen image.

Capture a selected area in DevTools
For a cropped region rather than the whole viewport or page, open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac. Type screenshot, select Capture area screenshot, then drag across the page. Google notes that area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked from its window. This is a separate desktop DevTools action, not a documented method for capturing a region of the Android phone’s physical display.
Troubleshoot a phone that DevTools cannot find
- No device appears: Confirm USB debugging is enabled, Discover USB devices is checked, the phone is connected with a data-capable cable, and the phone has accepted any authorization prompt.
- A USB hub is in the way: Connect the phone directly to the computer, as the Chrome guide recommends trying when detection fails.
- The connection remains unavailable: The Chrome guide lists changing the Android USB mode to PTP and revoking existing USB debugging authorizations as troubleshooting options. After revoking authorizations, reconnect and accept the prompt again if it appears.
- The inspected DevTools looks different: Its version is tied to Chrome on the phone. Update mobile Chrome where possible, or account for the older browser when following interface instructions.
- The screenshot differs from the real phone: Check whether you used Device Mode. Its output is an emulated desktop capture; use the physical phone for a capture of its display, or remotely inspect the live tab when testing real-device rendering.

If you need an image of a web page without connecting and configuring a phone, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its one-call API request can return an image or PDF. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe; replace the target URL with the page you want to capture:

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
