Open your locally running site in a Mac browser, set the page to the state and size you want, then press Shift-Command-4 and drag over the page area. For the entire display, press Shift-Command-3. These macOS shortcuts capture what is on screen; they do not capture a long page beyond the visible viewport.
Capture the visible localhost page with macOS
- Start your local server. Run the command your project uses, then open its localhost address in Safari, Chrome, or another browser. The command and address depend on your framework and project.
- Prepare the page. Resize and position the browser, scroll to the part you want, and wait for the page to finish rendering.
- Select the page area. Press Shift-Command-4. When the pointer becomes a crosshair, drag around the browser content you want in the image, then release.
- Find the file. macOS saves the screenshot to the desktop by default. If it is not there, open Screenshot controls with Shift-Command-5, choose Options, and check Save to. Available choices can vary by macOS version.
To include the whole display rather than a selected rectangle, press Shift-Command-3. This includes everything visible on that screen, including browser controls and any other content in view. Apple documents both shortcuts and the save-location controls in its Mac screenshot instructions.

Set a repeatable viewport in Safari or Chrome
If you need a screenshot at a particular responsive width, configure the browser viewport before using the macOS capture shortcut. The browser mode sets the preview size; macOS still takes the screenshot.

- With the page open and Safari focused, choose Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode, or press Control-Command-R.
- Set the width, height, and display pixel ratio for the preview you need.
- Capture the visible preview with Shift-Command-4.

If Safari’s Develop menu is missing
Open Safari Settings with Command-comma, select Advanced, and enable Show features for web developers. You can then open Web Inspector from Develop > Show Web Inspector or press Option-Command-I. Web Inspector is for inspecting and debugging page content; it is not required for an ordinary screenshot. Apple’s setup guidance is at Enabling Web Inspector, and Apple also documents Safari’s developer tools.
Chrome Device Mode
In Chrome, open DevTools and press Command-Shift-M to toggle Device Mode on Mac, as listed in Chrome’s DevTools keyboard shortcuts. Set the preview to the desired device or viewport, then use Shift-Command-4 to capture the visible region. This shortcut reference confirms the Device Mode toggle; it does not establish a full-page capture workflow.

Visible-area screenshots are not full-page screenshots
The macOS shortcuts capture the display or a rectangle of pixels currently on screen. They do not automatically scroll through a document and stitch the entire page together. If you need a full-page image of a long localhost page, use a browser-specific full-page workflow that is verified for your browser version, or a capture tool that can access the page. Do not treat a viewport screenshot as a full-page capture.

Troubleshooting
- The screenshot is not on the desktop. Press Shift-Command-5, open Options, and inspect Save to; the destination may have been changed.
- The image includes browser chrome or other windows. Use Shift-Command-4 and drag a tighter rectangle around the page content instead of capturing the full display.
- The screenshot has the wrong responsive dimensions. Set the viewport in Safari Responsive Design Mode or Chrome Device Mode before capturing; changing the browser preview does not itself save an image.
- You expected the entire scrolling page. The native selection shortcut only captures visible screen pixels. Choose a verified full-page method for your browser and version.
- ScreenshotNeo cannot open your localhost URL. The API runs remotely and cannot directly access a server bound only to your Mac. Use the local macOS workflow or make the page reachable through a secure, controlled route before requesting an API capture.
