Capture a webpage in Firefox
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Open the screenshot tool by pressing Command+Shift+S, or right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot.
- Choose what to capture:
- Save full page captures the webpage beyond the visible browser area.
- Save visible captures the part currently shown in the browser.
- Hover over the page and click an automatically highlighted element to capture it. Adjust the selection edges if needed.
- Drag across the page to select a custom region, then adjust its edges if needed.
- Choose Download to save the image in Firefox’s default download location, or choose Copy to paste it into another app.
While the screenshot interface is open, Command+S downloads the capture, Command+C copies it, and Esc cancels. Mozilla’s instructions are for Firefox desktop; they do not specify a Firefox version or macOS release. Menu labels may change over time. Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot guide has the current feature instructions.

Add a Screenshot button to the Firefox toolbar
- Open the Firefox menu and choose More Tools, then Customize Toolbar….
- Drag the Screenshot item onto the toolbar.
- Select Done. Use the new toolbar button to open the screenshot tool.
Use a macOS screenshot when you need the screen or a window
Firefox Screenshots captures webpage content, including content below the visible area. If you instead need an image of what is displayed on the Mac screen or a particular window, use macOS’s screenshot shortcuts:
- Command+Shift+3 captures the screen.
- Command+Shift+4 lets you select an area.
- For a window, press Command+Shift+4, then Space, and click the window.
Mozilla says these macOS captures are saved as PNG files on the desktop. To crop one in Preview, choose Tools > Crop or press Command+K. See Mozilla’s Mac screenshot instructions.

Firefox screenshot privacy
Mozilla’s feature-specific privacy explanation says Firefox Screenshots records interaction events, such as using Copy or Save full page, but not the URL or details of the captured image. This statement applies to Firefox Screenshots as described on Mozilla’s feature help page; it should not be generalized to other Firefox data collection.
