Set the viewport width and height separately, then use the Screenshot.rocks extension for the visible tab. For a full-page image, use the browser’s full-page capture and import that file into Screenshot.rocks.
What DPR changes—and what it does not
Google defines device pixel ratio as “the ratio between physical pixels on the hardware screen and logical (CSS) pixels.” In practice, the viewport controls the page area in CSS pixels and therefore helps determine the responsive layout; DPR controls the pixel density used to render that area. Specify both values when you need someone else to reproduce the capture. See Chrome’s Device Mode documentation.

A higher DPR does not mean a wider CSS viewport. Nor does importing an already captured image into an editor change the DPR at which the website was rendered. Screenshot.rocks’ documented workflow uses the browser extension to capture and its editor to style the result; it does not describe an editor-based DPR setting. Screenshot.rocks’ extension guide

Capture the visible viewport at a chosen DPR
- Open the page in Chrome. Navigate to the website and open DevTools, then turn on Device Mode.
- Show the DPR control if needed. In the Device Mode toolbar, open More options and choose Add device pixel ratio if the control is not already visible.
- Set the viewport and DPR independently. Enter the desired viewport width and height in CSS pixels, then select the DPR in the toolbar. Record both settings; the page layout depends on the viewport, while DPR describes pixel density.
- Capture with Screenshot.rocks. Use its browser extension to capture the visible part of the current tab. The extension guide says the capture is sent to the Screenshot.rocks editor.
- Style and export if desired. In the editor, choose a frame, style and background, then export. The Chrome Web Store listing describes PNG, JPG and SVG export formats; it identifies extension version 1.1 and an update date of September 10, 2024, which are listing metadata rather than a guarantee about current maintenance or output dimensions. For a reproducible note, use this format: viewport: 1440 × 900 CSS pixels; DPR: 2; capture: visible viewport. These are example settings, not a promised output size. Browser, operating system and display behavior can affect the saved file, and the available documentation does not promise universal output dimensions. Check the exported file’s pixel dimensions when an exact size matters.
#1 Best Overall
Capture a full page or style an existing image
Full-page capture
The Screenshot.rocks extension guide describes capturing only the visible tab, not the entire scrollable page. Use the browser’s full-page screenshot feature to capture the complete page, then import that image into the Screenshot.rocks editor for mockup styling. Set the DPR in the browser before taking the original capture if pixel density matters.
Existing screenshot
You can import an existing image into the editor for styling. That can add a frame or background, but it cannot retroactively change the DPR used when the webpage was rendered. If the original capture has the wrong responsive layout or pixel density, recapture the page with the intended viewport and DPR.

Does Screenshot.rocks have a DPR setting?
The published extension workflow documents capture and mockup styling, not a numeric DPR setting in Screenshot.rocks. Set DPR in Chrome Device Mode before capture rather than assuming the editor can change it. Screenshot.rocks is described in its GitHub repository as an online mockup tool for browser and mobile screenshots; the repository is MIT licensed.

Troubleshooting
- The page layout is wrong: Check the viewport width and height in CSS pixels. Changing DPR alone does not set the responsive layout’s viewport.
- The saved image is not the expected pixel size: Verify the exported file’s actual dimensions. DPR is a density ratio, not a universal output-dimension guarantee.
- The capture stops before the bottom of the page: The extension captures the visible tab. Use the browser’s full-page capture and import its output into the editor.
- You cannot find a DPR control: In Device Mode, open More options and select Add device pixel ratio.
- An imported image looks unchanged in resolution: Importing and styling an existing screenshot does not rerender the website. Recapture with the desired DPR if the original pixel density is wrong.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Screenshot.rocks change the DPR of a screenshot I already took?
No. An existing image can be styled in the editor, but changing its capture DPR requires capturing the website again with the desired browser setting.

Which DPR and viewport should I use?
Use the CSS-pixel viewport that produces the page layout you need, then choose the required DPR independently. There is no single correct pair for every capture.
