Capture the page after its content is ready
This Puppeteer example follows Apify’s documented pattern of launching a browser with Crawlee, navigating to a URL, taking a screenshot, and storing it in the Apify key-value store. Replace the sample URL and readiness selector with values appropriate for your target page.

Choose a wait that represents the content you need
JavaScript-driven content may arrive after the initial document load. A static HTML fetch does not execute the page’s scripts; browser automation renders the page, but your code still needs a meaningful readiness signal. Apify’s Puppeteer Scraper tutorial cautions that waiting for all ongoing activity “would never stop waiting.”

When a click triggers navigation, Apify’s tutorial demonstrates waiting for the load state after the click, then taking the image:

Troubleshoot missing or failed screenshots
- The screenshot is blank or missing expected text: The capture may have happened before the app rendered, or your selector may describe the wrong state. Wait for an element or condition tied to the content in the image.
- A selector wait times out: Confirm that the selector matches the page, that the relevant content is expected to appear, and that the chosen timeout is appropriate. Handle timeouts so a failed readiness check does not silently produce a misleading screenshot.
- A click fails because the target is absent: Wait for the click target to exist before using it.
- The navigation wait appears to race: Register or perform the navigation wait in the documented sequence around the action that triggers navigation; Apify’s Playwright tutorial places
waitForLoadState('load')after the click. - Waiting for network quiet never completes: Some pages keep requests or updates active. Do not require every script or request to finish; wait for the particular content your image needs.
- The screenshot call succeeds but the result is wrong: A successful capture only means an image was produced, not that the page was ready. Revisit the readiness signal and inspect whether it represents the visible content you intended.

Can I use a fixed sleep instead of waiting for a selector?
Yes, as a fallback when the page offers no dependable readiness signal, but a fixed delay can be both slower than needed and too short for variable rendering.
Does a successful screenshot prove JavaScript has finished?
No. It proves an image was captured; it does not establish that all client-side updates are complete or that the chosen content was ready.
