To screenshot a page with OneTrust consent already accepted, make the intended choice on the exact website origin in the same browser context you will use for capture, wait for the page to update, and then take the screenshot. OneTrust’s OptanonConsent cookie is first-party and tied to the domain associated with the deployed banner script; accepting consent on another origin or using a mismatched script can make the banner return.
Accept consent on the site you plan to capture
- Open the exact website origin in the browser or browser context that will take the screenshot. Keep the scheme, hostname, and relevant site context consistent; OneTrust’s consent cookie is first-party and associated with the domain for the deployed banner script. See OneTrust’s cookie documentation.
- Make the intended choice in the visible banner or preference center. Do not assume that closing or dismissing a banner means all cookies and purposes were accepted.
- Wait for the page to update. Confirm that the banner is gone and that the page reflects the state you intended before navigating or capturing.
- Keep the same browser context and origin for the screenshot if relying on browser-stored consent. A cookie accepted in another browser profile or on a different origin may not apply.
For reproducible QA, use the target site’s intended test environment and make the consent choice there. OneTrust distinguishes test and production script placement; production scripts should be used only on the domains for which they were generated. A universal accepted-cookie value or script cannot be supplied safely for an unspecified deployment because domain configuration, consent categories, geography rules, and backend synchronization can differ. Choose the right OneTrust action
If the site exposes OneTrust’s JavaScript API, its documented actions do not mean the same thing:

The descriptions of Close() and AllowAll() are from OneTrust’s JavaScript API documentation. Do not call AllowAll() merely to hide the banner if the intended state is not full consent.

Keep consent stable in Playwright
Playwright browser contexts isolate cookies and other browser state. The reliable approach is to accept consent in the context that will perform the capture, then navigate or capture within that context. Avoid manually transplanting a cookie from an unrelated domain or assuming that a fixed cookie value works across OneTrust deployments.

await browser.close();The commented selectors are deliberately examples, not universal OneTrust selectors. Inspect the target site and use its actual accessible button name or banner element. For a repeatable multi-run test, persist the same browser context’s storage state and load it into the context used for the later capture; ensure the stored state belongs to the correct site origin and remains valid for the site’s consent rules.
Choose viewport, element, or full-page capture
- Viewport: captures only what is currently visible. In Playwright, call
page.screenshot({ path: 'viewport.png' }). - One element: useful for a specific panel or component. In Playwright, locate the target and call
locator.screenshot({ path: 'element.png' }). - Full page: captures the full scrollable document. In Playwright, call
page.screenshot({ path: 'full.png', fullPage: true }).
These capture modes are documented in the Playwright screenshot guide. A full-page capture does not change consent state: accept consent first in the relevant context, then select the capture extent.

Troubleshoot a banner that returns
- Consent was accepted on a different domain or subdomain: repeat the choice on the exact origin used for capture. OneTrust’s first-party cookie is associated with the domain tied to the deployed banner script.
- The banner script does not match the live domain: check the OneTrust configuration and ensure the production script was generated for the domain where it is running. OneTrust warns that a scanned-domain and script-domain mismatch can prevent consent from being captured correctly and cause the banner to reappear.
- The banner disappeared, but the choice was not full acceptance: check whether the interaction called
Close()or the site’s default behavior rather thanAllowAll(). Verify the resulting state against the intended choice instead of treating dismissal as acceptance. - Consent differs between visits or devices: for a server-side CMP integration, the application must retain and update
otConsentString. If profile synchronization is configured, a newer server consent timestamp can take precedence over local browser or device consent. See OneTrust’s server-side CMP API guidance. - Playwright cannot find the button: inspect the actual banner and use the site’s accessible name or selector. Consent interfaces vary by site, region, and configuration; do not rely on a universal selector.
- The screenshot starts before the page is ready: wait for a site-specific condition that confirms the consent interface and content have settled before capturing. Avoid assuming that a generic delay guarantees the consent state has been recorded.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I copy an OptanonConsent cookie from another website?
No. It is a first-party cookie associated with the domain configured for that OneTrust banner, so a cookie from another origin is not a dependable way to establish consent.
Does clicking the X on a OneTrust banner accept all cookies?
Not necessarily. OneTrust documents `OneTrust.Close()` as dismissing the banner and setting the default consent model; full consent is a separate action.
