For a support request or submission, capture only the relevant area when possible, check that the text is readable, and redact sensitive details the recipient does not need. Portal layouts and submission rules vary by institution, so follow your university’s instructions for where to send the image.
Before you capture the portal page
- Open the portal using the official web address supplied by your university. Sign in normally; do not share your password or authentication codes with anyone.
- Navigate to the relevant status, message, form, or record. Arrange the page so the information needed to understand the issue is visible.
- Choose a partial or selected-area screenshot if your device offers one. This can keep unrelated tabs, notifications, and desktop content out of the image.
- Capture the screen, then open the image and check that the relevant information is complete and legible.
- Before sharing, redact passwords and personal or financial details that are not needed. Use only the upload or support channel specified by the university or recipient.
There is no single screenshot or submission rule for every Indian university. If the portal instructions say to include a particular page, identifier, or full-screen view, follow those instructions while protecting information that is not relevant.

Take a screenshot on your device
Windows 10 and Windows 11
Press Windows key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool overlay. Choose a capture mode—rectangular, freeform, window, or full screen—and capture the portal content. The image is copied to the clipboard; open Snipping Tool and save it as a file if you need an attachment. See Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions for current details.

Mac
Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the Screenshot app. Choose the capture tool, then select and adjust the frame around the part of the portal you need. Apple’s Mac screenshot instructions describe the available controls.
iPhone or iPad
- Face ID models: Press and release the side button and volume-up button together.
- Models with a Home button: Press and release Home and the side button (or Sleep/Wake button, depending on model) together.
Button placement can differ by model. Apple includes device capture guidance in its support instructions.
Chromebook
Use the Screenshot key if your Chromebook has one. Otherwise press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows to open Screen Capture. Choose Screenshot, then select full-screen, partial-screen, or window capture. Screenshots are saved to Downloads by default and copied to the clipboard; you can change the save folder in Screen Capture settings. See Google’s Chromebook capture instructions.
Android
On most Android devices, pressing Power + Volume Down takes a screenshot, which then appears in Gallery or Photos. The combination and available menus vary by manufacturer and model. If it does not work, use the device’s screenshot command or consult its manufacturer’s instructions. This shortcut is also described in Harvard Business Publishing Education’s cross-platform guide.

Check privacy and readability before sending
Inspect the entire image, not just the portal content in the center. It may contain student identifiers, grades, payment information, notifications, browser tabs, or another person’s information. Redact what the recipient does not need, but leave enough context to make the issue understandable. Do not include or transmit passwords or authentication codes. The university’s support guide recommends hiding or redacting sensitive information before sharing.
Send the screenshot through the channel the university or support recipient requested. Requirements for acceptable evidence, retention, and handling depend on the institution and the purpose of the request; there is no universal rule established for all Indian university portals.

If you cannot capture the screen
A managed device or browser may have administrator-set restrictions. Google documents screenshot-prevention controls for qualifying managed Chrome environments in its Chrome policy guidance. Microsoft’s Edge DisableScreenshots policy documentation says the setting does not prevent every capture method, including Web Capture or methods outside the browser. These policies do not show that a particular university has enabled them.
Do not try to bypass a university’s restrictions. Contact the university IT desk or support team and ask for an approved way to provide the evidence.

Common problems and fixes
- The shortcut does nothing: Confirm the device and operating system, try the built-in Screenshot or Screen Capture app, and check the device maker’s instructions. Android button combinations in particular can vary by model.
- The screenshot is missing part of the page: Reposition or resize the page before capture, then use a partial or full-screen mode that includes the information the recipient needs. Check the image before attaching it.
- The text is too small or blurry: Zoom the portal page or use a larger capture area, and open the saved image at its actual size to verify that key text can be read.
- You cannot save the image: On Windows, open Snipping Tool to save the clipboard capture. On Chromebook, look in Downloads unless the save location was changed. On mobile, check Gallery or Photos.
- Capture is blocked on a managed device: The browser or device may be controlled by an administrator. Ask university IT or support for an approved submission method rather than attempting to circumvent the restriction.
