Tap Full Page in the screenshot preview if you need content beyond the visible screen. If by “annotations” you mean distracting page elements rather than drawings, hide those separately with Safari’s Hide Distracting Items control before you take the screenshot.
First, decide what you mean by “annotations hidden”
There are two different things you might want to hide:

- Markup drawings or notes: These are marks added to a screenshot after capture. Simply do not open Markup or use its drawing and text tools.
- Distracting webpage items: These are elements such as selected overlays or other page clutter. Safari’s Distraction Control can hide selected items before capture; it is not a Markup setting and does not remove marks already drawn on a screenshot.
Apple describes Markup as an optional action after taking a screenshot. Its guidance does not establish a universal way to remove existing annotations across iOS versions, so avoid adding them if you need a clean original.

Capture the webpage without adding Markup

Open the webpage in Safari and wait for the content you need to load.

Take a screenshot using the button combination for your iPhone:
- iPhone with Face ID: Quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together.
- iPhone with a Home button: Quickly press and release the side button and Home button together.
Apple documents both combinations in its iPhone screenshot instructions.

Open the screenshot preview if it did not open automatically. In iOS 26, Apple says the screenshot appears with quick tools. In iOS 18 and earlier, a temporary thumbnail appears at the lower left; tap it to open the screenshot or swipe left to dismiss it. Preview behavior and labels can vary by iOS release.

For a screenshot that extends beyond what is visible on screen, tap Full Page. Apple describes this option for capturing content beyond the screen, including an entire webpage in Safari. Inspect the long preview and crop it if needed.

Choose the output you want: Save to Photos for an image or Save PDF to Files for a PDF.

Leave Markup unused. Do not select its drawing or text tools if you want the screenshot without added annotations.

Hide distracting webpage items before capture
If you mean page clutter rather than drawn notes, use Safari’s Distraction Control before taking the screenshot:

Open the webpage in Safari.

Open the Page menu and choose Hide Distracting Items.

Select the item you want to hide and tap Hide.

Take the screenshot using the steps above.
Hidden items can later be restored from the Page menu. Apple’s Safari Distraction Control instructions explain this separate webpage-cleanup feature. It does not erase annotations that have already been added to a screenshot.

Troubleshooting
- You only see the visible screen: Open the screenshot preview and select Full Page for content beyond the screen. Apple documents this option for webpages in Safari.
- You cannot find the screenshot preview: Check Photos, where screenshots are saved. Preview behavior differs across iOS releases; in iOS 18 and earlier, the thumbnail can be dismissed by swiping left.
- Your screenshot has drawn marks or text: Markup was used. The guidance cited here does not establish one universal removal workflow for annotations already added, so avoid Markup when capturing the clean original.
- A distracting item remains visible: Use Safari’s Page menu → Hide Distracting Items, select that item, and tap Hide before capturing. This is distinct from Markup.
- You do not see the same menu or share control: Labels and placement can differ by iOS release and Safari layout. Apple notes that the share control position for PDF actions may depend on whether Safari’s tab layout is at the top or bottom.
