Scroll the page before taking a full-page screenshot, then wait for its images to load successfully. Playwright’s fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page, but it does not guarantee that scroll-triggered lazy loading has run. For reliable results, trigger scrolling yourself, check image readiness, and capture only after the page has settled.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss images
Lazy-loaded images are often fetched only when they are near the viewport. That means the initial navigation—and even the browser’s load event—does not prove that images lower down the page are ready. Playwright’s full-page screenshot captures the full scrollable page, but the capture itself may not move the visual viewport or fire the scroll events that a site uses to load content. A Playwright issue proposes an opt-in pre-capture scrolling behavior; treat that as a feature request, not a released option. Playwright issue #40941

The practical fix is to scroll through the page in increments, give viewport-triggered loading a chance to run, wait for the relevant images, and then take the screenshot. Playwright documents full-page capture in its screenshot guide.
Capture with Playwright
The following Node.js example uses Playwright. It scrolls through the document, revisits the page if its height changes, waits up to 15 seconds for HTML image elements to load successfully, attempts to decode loaded images, and saves a full-page PNG.

The pauses and 15-second timeout are starting points, not guarantees for every site: adjust them to the page and network conditions.
How the readiness check works
img.complete alone is not enough: the browser may report completion for an image with no source or one that failed. Pair it with naturalWidth > 0 to check that image data is available. MDN documents the cases covered by complete, and its naturalWidth reference explains that zero indicates unavailable intrinsic image data.

img.decode() provides another signal that image data is ready to render. It can reject if loading fails, the source changes, or the data is corrupted, so the example calls it only for images that already passed the readiness check and handles rejection. See MDN’s decode() reference.
Adapt the workflow to the page
Pages that append content while scrolling
The example rechecks document height and repeats its pass until the height is stable for two checks. That is a useful safeguard, not a universal way to detect completion: an infinite feed may never settle. For a known page, wait for a specific expected result, such as a gallery count, a loaded-image locator, or the disappearance of a placeholder.

Nested scrollers and “Load more” controls
If the page scrolls a panel rather than the document, scroll that actual container; window.scrollTo() will not trigger its scroll behavior. If more content appears only after a button press, click the “Load more” control and wait for the new content before continuing. Use a page-specific locator or condition to tell when the interaction has succeeded.
Images outside HTML img elements
The document-wide check covers <img> elements, not every visual resource. CSS background images, canvas content, images hidden behind consent gates, and app-specific placeholders need checks tailored to how the page renders them. A generic check can also encounter decorative, hidden, or intentionally broken images; if that applies, wait for the particular images that matter instead of requiring every document image to succeed.

Why not wait for network idle?
Network quiescence is not a dependable substitute for checking the content you need. Analytics or polling can keep requests active, while deferred images may not begin loading until scrolling triggers them. Playwright’s Page API marks waitUntil: 'networkidle' as discouraged for testing and recommends assertions to assess readiness. Playwright Page API
Use a navigation milestone such as domcontentloaded to begin your workflow, then wait for the page-specific condition or image state that matters. Native lazy loading defers fetching until an image is expected near the viewport; see MDN’s img reference and HTMLImageElement.loading documentation.

Troubleshooting missing images
- The screenshot still has blank areas: confirm that the page was scrolled before capture and that your pauses allow its lazy-loading code to respond. Check whether the missing content is in a nested scroller or requires a button click.
- The image wait times out: identify which images failed the
completeandnaturalWidthcheck. A blocked request, broken source, authentication requirement, consent gate, or unavailable resource may be responsible. Keep the timeout; investigate or report the failed images rather than waiting forever. - The page keeps growing: infinite feeds may not reach a stable height. Set a practical stopping condition, such as a target item count or a maximum scroll depth, and wait for that condition.
- Everything appears loaded but the capture is incomplete: check for CSS backgrounds, canvas rendering, animations, or content outside
<img>elements. Add a page-specific readiness check for that content. networkidlenever arrives: ongoing analytics or polling can prevent network quiet. Replace it with a locator assertion or an explicit condition tied to the content you need.
