On Windows 10 or Windows 11, press Windows key + Shift + S, choose a snip mode, and select the visible part of the webpage you want. Windows copies the capture to your clipboard; select the notification to open it in Snipping Tool, then save it with Ctrl + S. You do not need to install another screenshot app.

Capture a visible part of a webpage with Windows + Shift + S

  1. Open the webpage in your browser and bring the part you want into view.
  2. Press Windows key + Shift + S. The Snipping Tool capture overlay appears.
  3. Choose a capture mode. For a selected portion of the page, choose rectangular snip and drag around it. Choose freeform snip to outline an irregular area.
  4. When you release the mouse button, Windows copies the snip to the clipboard and shows a notification.
  5. Select the notification to open the image in Snipping Tool. Review or edit it, then select Save or press Ctrl + S and choose a folder and filename.

Microsoft describes Snipping Tool as a way to “take a snapshot to copy words or images from all or part of your PC screen.” Its documented workflow applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions explain the capture and save steps.

Choose the right capture mode

Mode What it captures Useful when
Rectangular A rectangle you draw on screen You want just a visible section of the page.
Freeform An area traced with a freehand outline You need an irregular crop that excludes nearby screen content.
Window A selected open window You want the browser window rather than a hand-drawn region.
Full screen The full screen You need everything currently displayed on the screen.

The capture modes determine what is in the image; they do not change the webpage itself. If you only need the visible browser content, rectangular or window mode usually avoids including unrelated parts of the desktop.

Other quick keyboard shortcuts

  • Print Screen (PrtSc): copies an image of the entire screen to the clipboard. Open an image editor or document and paste it, or use the Snipping Tool workflow if you want to inspect and save the capture there.
  • Alt + Print Screen: copies an image of the active window, such as your browser, to the clipboard.

Some laptop keyboards abbreviate the key label or require holding Fn to use a secondary key function. If the shortcut is inconvenient, open Start and search for Snipping Tool. Microsoft documents these clipboard shortcuts in its guide to copying window or screen contents.

Can Windows capture an entire long webpage in one screenshot?

The Snipping Tool modes capture screen content; Microsoft’s instructions do not describe an automatic scrolling capture that stitches a long webpage into one image. If the page extends below the visible screen, capture separate sections as you scroll, or use a different workflow if you need the whole page as a single file.

For a print-oriented copy rather than an image of the screen, Microsoft Edge can print a webpage: press Ctrl + P and review the available print options, including background graphics. Printing creates a print layout, not a screenshot; page breaks and formatting may differ from what you see in the browser. On supported websites, Immersive Reader may also provide a cleaner print view. See Microsoft’s Microsoft Edge printing instructions.

Fix common capture problems

  • The shortcut does not open the capture overlay: Open Start, search for Snipping Tool, and launch it directly. On a laptop, check whether the Print Screen key or another key requires Fn.
  • You cannot find the saved image: The initial snip is copied to the clipboard. Select the notification to open it in Snipping Tool, then use Save or Ctrl + S and note the folder you choose.
  • The screenshot cuts off the bottom of the page: A standard snip captures what is on screen, not the unseen portion below it. Scroll and take additional captures, or use Edge printing if a print-layout copy will work.
  • The screenshot includes the desktop or other windows: Use rectangular mode to select only the webpage area, or window mode to capture the browser window.
