Choose the capture scope
The right scope depends on what you need to show. Playwright supports screenshots of the viewport, a selected element, and the full scrollable page. For a page with content below the fold, full-page capture can include more context, but a very tall image may make instructions difficult to read. Prefer the smallest scope that includes the necessary information, then inspect the resulting image.

- Viewport: captures what is currently visible in the browser. Use it when the instructions fit on screen.
- Element: captures a chosen component, such as an instruction card. Use it to focus on relevant content and avoid unrelated page areas.
- Full page: captures the scrollable page. Use it when the instructions extend below the fold, and check that the resulting text remains legible.

The exact controls, output path, and storage behavior depend on the agent and runtime. The following is a workflow, not a claim that every agent exposes identical commands.

- Open the intended site in a browser session you are authorized to use. Navigate to the UPI payment instructions and confirm the page identity and the visible content.
- Tell the agent which scope to capture: the current viewport, a named instruction element, or the full page. If selecting an element, have it inspect page structure or accessibility information to identify the target rather than guessing at a selector.
- Ask it to save the screenshot to a specified file and format supported by your installed Playwright version. Review the saved file at its actual display size before using it.
- Exclude or mask sensitive information where appropriate. Do not ask the agent to enter, infer, capture, or disclose a UPI PIN.
Playwright’s Page API documents screenshot options including an output path, full-page capture, masking selected locators, image quality and format, and CSS-pixel or device-pixel scale. Check the API documentation for the version installed in your environment; available options and syntax may vary by version. The Playwright CLI screenshot documentation also describes command-line capture and full-page mode.
Protect payment and account information
Minimize what the screenshot contains, and inspect it before sharing. Screenshots can include sensitive page or account data; OpenAI’s computer-use documentation warns about this risk. NPCI’s UPI FAQ says not to share your UPI PIN. A screenshot of a UPI QR flow may show merchant information on the payment page, but it is a record of page content—not proof that an instruction is genuine or that a payment should be made.

Troubleshooting
- The capture misses the instructions: Confirm the page reached the relevant content, then choose full-page capture or target the specific instruction element.
- The image is too tall or text is hard to read: Capture only the relevant element or viewport, if it contains the needed content; inspect the saved image before sharing.
- The agent cannot find the right element: Have it inspect the page structure or accessibility snapshot and identify the target before requesting an element screenshot. A visual screenshot alone is not the best way to discover interaction targets.
- The screenshot includes sensitive details: Do not share it as-is. Capture a smaller area or use Playwright’s documented locator masking where supported by your installed version, then review the result.
- The command or option is unavailable: Verify the installed Playwright version and consult its matching documentation. Do not assume every agent runtime has the same controls or file-saving behavior.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a screenshot confirm that a UPI payment request is genuine?
No. It records page content and does not authenticate the beneficiary or establish that a payment should be made.
