If you’re authorized to view the page, sign in through the site’s normal login flow in a supported browser, confirm that you’ve reached the authenticated page, then capture it from that browser context. Playwright can reuse saved authentication state for screenshots—but it cannot be used as a supported way to solve a production Cloudflare challenge. A site login and a Cloudflare challenge are separate checks.
First identify which check is blocking you
A login form authenticates you to the website. A Cloudflare challenge checks whether a visitor can proceed to the site. Passing one does not necessarily pass the other: you may be signed in but still see a challenge, or pass a challenge and still need to sign in. Cloudflare says visitors need JavaScript and cookies enabled to pass its challenges (Cloudflare Challenges).

- You see the expected account page: Continue with a screenshot in the authenticated browser context.
- You see the site’s login form: Complete the normal sign-in flow first; the screenshot would otherwise show the login page.
- You see a Cloudflare challenge or interstitial: Use a supported browser to complete it, or contact the site owner if you remain blocked. Do not try to automate solving a production challenge.
Cloudflare says only the website owner can change settings to stop a challenge from being presented (Resolve a Challenge).

The supported workflow is to sign in normally, save the resulting browser state, and load that state in the context used for the screenshot. The example below uses Node.js and Playwright. It assumes you have permission to access the account and page, and that the site allows the browser session to proceed.

1. Install Playwright
In an otherwise empty project directory, install Playwright and its Chromium browser:

npx playwright install chromium2. Sign in and save the browser state
Create login.js. Replace the example login URL and selectors with the site’s actual sign-in page and form fields. This script opens a visible browser so you can complete any normal sign-in steps, including a supported human-facing challenge if one appears. It saves state only after you confirm that the authenticated page has loaded.

});Run it with node login.js. Before pressing Enter, check that the page is genuinely authenticated—not a login form, error page, or Cloudflare interstitial. If the login redirects through several pages, wait for the final destination or a clear signed-in indicator. Playwright notes that authentication cookies can be set during redirects, so saving too early can leave the state incomplete (Playwright: Authentication).
3. Load the saved state and capture the page
Create capture.js. Set the target URL and choose the capture mode appropriate to your purpose:

});Run it with node capture.js. Playwright supports viewport, full-page, and element screenshots; see its screenshot documentation. The example waits for a visible main element, but you should replace that selector with a reliable marker for the page you intend to capture.
Protect and maintain the saved session
The file auth-state.json may contain cookies or tokens that let someone impersonate the signed-in account. Treat it like a password.

- Add the state file to
.gitignore; do not commit or share it. - Keep it in a restricted local directory and limit access to the account and machine that need it.
- Delete it when no longer needed. If it is exposed, sign out or revoke sessions through the site’s account controls where available.
- When the site expires or rotates the session, repeat the normal login and save a fresh state.
Playwright’s standard storage-state mechanism does not persist session storage. If the site depends on session storage, saving auth-state.json alone may not restore the logged-in state; handle that separately rather than assuming the saved file contains every browser credential (Playwright: Authentication).
What to do if Cloudflare still blocks the capture
Do not treat an automation retry, a different user-agent string, or repeated navigation as a way to defeat a production challenge. Cloudflare explicitly says browser automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Puppeteer, and Cypress are not supported for solving production challenges (Supported browsers).

- Open the page in a normal supported browser and complete the challenge as a visitor, with JavaScript and cookies enabled.
- If the challenge persists for a legitimate visit, contact the site owner and ask them to review access or allow your IP. Cloudflare says only the owner can change the site’s challenge configuration.
- If you own the site, review the challenge or WAF configuration. For APIs that need protection without disrupting SPA or API integrations, Cloudflare documents Turnstile Pre-clearance (Interstitial Challenge Pages).
Cloudflare Browser Run provides browser automation and screenshot capabilities, but Cloudflare states its user-agent parameter does not bypass bot protection (Cloudflare: Playwright | Browser Run).
Troubleshoot common screenshot failures

Can Playwright take a screenshot after I log in manually?
Yes. Save browser storage state after the normal login flow, then load it into the browser context used for capture. Keep the saved state private because it can contain credentials.
