Scroll and load the feed before taking the screenshot: page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }) captures the page as it exists at capture time; it does not make an infinite-scroll feed load its remaining content. Use a bounded loop, wait for each load to settle, and stop on a signal suited to the site—ideally an end marker or known item count.
What the Puppeteer screenshot option does—and does not do
Puppeteer’s documented capture method is Page.screenshot(); set fullPage: true to request a full-page image. That option captures the current rendered page. It does not scroll an infinite feed to trigger more requests or prove that the feed is complete. Puppeteer screenshot API

Page.evaluate() runs a function in the page context, and Puppeteer waits for a returned promise to resolve. That makes it useful for scrolling and inspecting the page between captures. Puppeteer evaluate API
Install and check the runtime
The Puppeteer system-requirements page for version 25.12.0 specifies Node.js 22.12 or later, and TypeScript 5.0.1 or later when using TypeScript. It recommends ES2022 or later if you type-check node_modules. These requirements are version-dependent; check the documentation for the Puppeteer version installed in your project. For a Node.js project, install Puppeteer with npm install puppeteer. The example below uses TypeScript, top-level await, and an ES module import; configure your project to support those syntax choices, or wrap the code in an async function if your setup requires it.
Use a bounded scroll-and-capture loop
This example scrolls to the current document bottom, gives network activity a chance to settle, then checks whether page height has stopped growing. It caps work at 30 rounds and captures the rendered page afterward.

- Navigate to the feed. Replace the example URL with the page you need.
domcontentloadedwaits for initial document parsing; it does not mean asynchronous feed content has finished loading. - Trigger loading. The loop scrolls to the current document bottom. Some pages load only after incremental scrolling rather than a jump to the bottom; adapt the scrolling action if needed.
- Wait for a settling signal. The example uses
waitForNetworkIdle()with a 500 ms idle interval and a 5-second timeout. Puppeteer documents 500 ms as the default idle interval. Network inactivity can help let a batch finish, but is not evidence that an endless feed has ended. Puppeteer network-idle API - Apply a stopping rule. This sample ends after three rounds without height growth, or after 30 total rounds. Tune those caps to the target page and the amount of content you need.
- Capture only after loading.
fullPage: trueasks Puppeteer to capture the full rendered page. The screenshot is written topage.png.
Choose a stopping signal that matches the page
Height stability is a practical fallback, not a universal completion detector. Prefer a page-specific signal when one is available. Puppeteer’s waitForFunction() can wait for a predicate evaluated in the page context to become truthy; explicit loops can also inspect a signal between scrolls. Puppeteer wait-for-function API

- Known item count: Stop once the feed contains the expected number of items, if the page exposes a reliable count and keeps loaded items in the DOM.
- End marker: Stop when a site-specific “end of results” element appears or becomes visible. This is often a stronger signal than unchanged height.
- Height stability: Suitable for ordinary pages where newly loaded items extend the document. It can be misleading when a feed virtualizes or recycles elements.
- Iteration and time limits: Keep a hard cap even with a site-specific signal. A feed can keep changing indefinitely, and a script without a budget can run far longer than intended.
Adapt the loop for less typical feeds
Incremental-scroll triggers
If a page only loads items after smaller scroll events, scroll in steps rather than jumping directly to the bottom. After each step, wait for the relevant content count or a site-specific loading indicator to change, with a timeout. Keep the same overall iteration or elapsed-time budget.

Nested scroll containers
Some feeds scroll inside a panel instead of the document. In that case, identify the panel and change its scrollTop rather than calling window.scrollTo(). Check the panel’s scroll height and item count; the document’s height may not change as content loads.
Load-more controls
If the page uses a button instead of automatic scrolling, locate and click the relevant control between checks. Stop when it disappears, becomes disabled, or a known end marker appears. Avoid assuming that a button’s absence from the viewport means the feed has ended.

Virtualized lists
A virtualized feed may keep only a small window of items in the DOM, replacing earlier elements as you scroll. In that case, neither full-page capture nor a final DOM snapshot necessarily contains all items. Height can remain fixed, too. Use a site-specific count or end marker to determine when to stop, and confirm that the target page actually retains the content you expect to appear in one screenshot.
Wait strategy, reliability, and runtime cost
waitForNetworkIdle() waits for network inactivity; it is a settling aid, not a signal that an infinite feed has completed. Pages with ongoing requests can make it time out. The sample catches that timeout and continues to inspect height, but swallowing the timeout is appropriate only because another stopping check follows. If the page exposes a dependable content predicate, waiting for that predicate may be more useful; a short fixed delay can also suit pages where the signal is otherwise unavailable. Each additional round adds browser work and time. A generous maximum may capture more feed content but can spend longer waiting on an endless or slow page. Set limits based on the intended capture, and use a site-specific completion condition to avoid relying on repeated idle waits alone.
Troubleshoot missing content or stalled captures
- The screenshot contains only the first items: Confirm scrolling actually triggers the feed. Try smaller scroll steps, inspect whether the feed uses a nested container, and check for a load-more control.
- The loop stops too soon: Height may not grow even though items load, particularly with virtualization. Use an item count or end marker instead of height alone.
- The loop runs to its maximum every time: Height may keep changing because of late-loading assets or layout shifts, or the feed may have no end. Tighten the stopping predicate and retain a sensible hard cap.
- Network idle times out: Ongoing requests can prevent inactivity. Treat the timeout as a failed settling attempt, not as proof that loading failed or succeeded; use a content predicate or a short bounded delay suited to the site.
- The screenshot is not full-page: Verify that the call is
page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true })and that the page has finished the loading steps you intend to capture. - The process hangs or takes too long: Ensure the browser closes in a
finallyblock, and cap both iterations and waits. A page with continuous network activity may repeatedly consume the wait timeout.
