Set URL2PNG’s viewport option to the width and height you want, such as 390x844, to capture a mobile-width layout. If the site varies its response based on browser or device identification, also set a suitable mobile user_agent. The viewport controls the page’s rendered dimensions; the user agent tells the site what kind of browser is requesting it.
Build a URL2PNG request for a mobile viewport
URL2PNG’s v6 endpoint uses this structure:

Put the target page URL and capture options in the query string. The token is an MD5 hash of the complete encoded query string concatenated with your account secret. That means you must finish encoding the parameters before generating the token. Keep the secret on a trusted server; do not put it in browser-side code.

The following is explanatory pseudocode based on URL2PNG’s documented token scheme, not a tested request. Replace the credential placeholders and use a query-encoding and MD5 library appropriate to your application.

Choose the dimensions and capture area
Set the viewport, not the output-width limit
Use viewport in width-by-height pixels. For example, 390x844 requests a 390-pixel-wide browser viewport with an 844-pixel height. The width is what prompts responsive layouts to use a narrow-screen presentation. URL2PNG’s documentation lists a default viewport of 1480x1037 under Advanced Options, while its code examples show other defaults, so specify the dimensions explicitly rather than relying on an implicit default.

thumbnail_max_width constrains or scales the output image width; it does not change the browser viewport at which the page is rendered. Use viewport to request a mobile-width layout.
Choose viewport-only or full-page
fullpage defaults to false, which captures the viewport. Keep it false for a screen-sized mobile screenshot. Set it to true when you want URL2PNG to attempt a capture of the full document canvas. This option controls capture height and does not make the viewport narrower.
Add a mobile user agent only when needed
A narrow viewport is often enough for a responsive site, but some pages serve different content based on browser identification. In that case, add user_agent with an appropriate mobile browser string as well. Cloudinary’s URL2PNG example pairs a mobile viewport with a mobile Safari user agent, but uses an older iPhone string; don’t copy it uncritically for a current test. Use a current, suitable user-agent string for the browser you intend to represent.

Wait for dynamic page content
URL2PNG provides two relevant options:
delaywaits a fixed number of seconds after document readiness and asset loading.say_cheese=truewaits for a page element with the IDurl2png-cheese.
If you control the target page, an explicit readiness marker can be more intentional than guessing a delay. Use a delay when a fixed wait is the practical option. Neither documented mechanism guarantees that every third-party or late-loading element will be ready, so choose the wait strategy with the page’s actual behavior in mind.

Handle cached screenshots and freshness
The URL2PNG quickstart gives a default cache TTL of 2592000 seconds (30 days). If the target page changes and you need a fresh capture, use the unique option to vary the request value; the documentation suggests a timestamp. Since the token is based on the full query string, regenerate it after changing or adding any parameter, including unique.
Use Cloudinary only if you need its integration
Cloudinary documents URL2PNG as an add-on. In that workflow, choose the url2png delivery type, provide the website URL as the public ID, then append options such as viewport and user_agent in the documented format. Cloudinary’s documentation says dynamic screenshot transformation URLs must by default be eagerly generated or signed, which helps control access to those URLs and avoid unplanned dynamic URL costs. This Cloudinary-specific setup is not needed for a direct URL2PNG API request.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The page looks like a desktop site: Confirm that
viewportis set to the intended width and height, and check whether the target uses user-agent detection. If it does, supply a suitable mobileuser_agent. - The image is narrow but the layout is still desktop-sized: Check that you changed
viewport, not onlythumbnail_max_width. Output scaling does not select the page’s layout width. - The screenshot is taller than the visible mobile screen: Set
fullpage=falsefor viewport-only output. Usetrueonly when you want the full document canvas attempted. - Images or other content are missing: Try an appropriate
delay, or usesay_cheese=truewith theurl2png-cheesemarker if you control the page. A wait does not guarantee that every late-loading third-party element has completed. - You receive an unexpected result after changing options: Re-encode the complete query string and regenerate the token. The token is tied to the exact query string and secret.
- The page appears unchanged after an update: A previous result may be cached under the documented 30-day default TTL. Vary
unique, for example with a timestamp, and generate a new token for the changed query.

No. A site may also rely on browser or device identification, in which case set a suitable mobile user_agent as well.
