What “mobile viewport” means
A viewport screenshot captures what a browser displays within a specified width and height. Those dimensions can trigger a site’s responsive layout, but they are distinct from the dimensions of the saved image. A mobile-sized viewport also does not, by itself, prove that the browser is emulating a phone’s user agent, touch input, or pixel density.

The historical Drupal guide lists native_resolution as browser resolution or viewport width, and widescreen_resolution_y as viewport height. It separately lists custom_width for image width. The guide does not establish that these settings emulate a mobile device. Drupal.org’s integration guide describes the module’s configuration, not a current ShrinkTheWeb API contract.

The Drupal 8 setup guide described the following optional settings. Treat the names and behavior below as historical integration guidance, not as a verified current REST API.

The guide’s advanced PHP example passes these as options to a Drupal render function, but the evidence does not establish a current standalone PHP example or request endpoint. Do not copy that integration pattern into a direct API call without checking current ShrinkTheWeb documentation.
Viewport capture or full-page capture?
For a screenshot of just the visible mobile-sized browser area, set viewport width and height and do not request full length. For a capture of the whole scrollable page, the historical guide identifies full_length as the relevant option. It also lists max_height for cropping. Full-page output and viewport dimensions solve different problems; changing output width or crop height does not necessarily change the responsive layout.

Global versus per-capture options
The Drupal guide says global configuration affects all instances that use shared settings, while per-request options can customize an individual capture. It also warns that some features may require an upgraded account. A historical Drupal.org comparison marks custom browser viewport support for ShrinkTheWeb as paid; current plan names, prices, and access rules are not established.
How to proceed without assuming current ShrinkTheWeb syntax
- Check the current service documentation or account interface. Confirm that ShrinkTheWeb is available and find its current option names and request format. The available documentation does not verify current service status or endpoint syntax.
- Set width and height as viewport dimensions. Use the current documented controls corresponding to the historical width and height options. Choose dimensions that trigger the responsive layout you want to inspect.
- Choose the capture extent separately. Select a visible-viewport capture or a full-page capture, if the current integration offers it. Use a crop limit only when you want to limit output height.
- Keep output resizing separate. Use an output-width option only to resize the resulting image; do not assume it changes the viewport used to render the page.
- Check plan access before relying on the feature. The historical Drupal documentation warns that some options may require an upgrade, and the old comparison identifies custom viewport support as paid. Verify current availability for your account.
- Validate the result on the target page. Confirm that the layout is responsive at the chosen width, that the captured area is the one you intended, and that any delayed content has loaded. The historical guide lists a delay option, but does not establish current behavior or a universal delay value.
Viewport size is not full phone emulation
Specifying a mobile-sized width and height can test responsive layout, but it does not establish that ShrinkTheWeb changes the user agent, enables touch capability, or sets device pixel ratio. These are separate device-emulation properties in some screenshot tools. Capture’s documentation, for example, distinguishes viewport dimensions from device emulation; those settings are Capture-specific and should not be treated as ShrinkTheWeb features: Capture documentation.

If your test depends on mobile-only browser behavior rather than responsive CSS alone, verify explicitly whether ShrinkTheWeb currently supports the needed emulation controls. The historical integration evidence does not answer that question.
Troubleshooting
- The page still looks like desktop. Check that you changed the browser viewport width, not just the output image width. Also verify the target page’s responsive breakpoints; a mobile-sized capture does not guarantee the page has a mobile-specific layout.
- The screenshot is cropped or too short. Review whether a full-length option or maximum crop height is set. The historical guide lists
full_lengthandmax_heightfor these distinct purposes; confirm their current equivalents before using them. - The screenshot misses content that appears after loading. The historical Drupal guide includes a delay setting in seconds. Check whether the current integration supports a delay or another wait control, and choose a value based on the page rather than assuming a fixed universal wait.
- A setting is rejected or unavailable. The documented names come from an older Drupal integration guide, not verified current API documentation. Recheck current parameter names and account eligibility instead of assuming the hosted service accepts the historical module syntax.
- The image has unexpected dimensions. Separate viewport width and height from output resizing and cropping controls. A custom image width or crop limit may change the file without changing the site’s responsive rendering.
