Use Chrome’s built-in DevTools: open the page, open DevTools, turn on the Device Toolbar, then choose More options → Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome saves an image of the whole page, not just the part currently visible. No extension or separate screenshot app is needed.
Capture a full-page screenshot with Chrome DevTools
- Open the page you want to capture in desktop Chrome.
- Open DevTools. Use Chrome’s browser menu to find Developer Tools if you don’t know or can’t use the keyboard shortcut for your operating system.
- Turn on the Device Toolbar in DevTools. It opens the viewport simulation interface, where you can choose or resize a responsive viewport. See Google’s Device Mode documentation.
- Open the Device Toolbar’s More options menu and select Capture a full size screenshot.
- Open the downloaded image and check that the page content you need is present. Its location depends on your Chrome download setup.
Google’s documentation describes this command as capturing the whole page, including content outside the current viewport. The menu labels may change as Chrome is updated.

Full-page screenshot versus visible-area screenshot
The two similarly named commands capture different things:

- Capture a full size screenshot captures the whole page, including content beyond the viewport.
Google Chrome for Developers explains: “To capture a screenshot of the whole page including the content that isn’t currently visible in the viewport, select Capture a full size screenshot from the same menu.” Read the Device Mode documentation.

Choose a viewport that suits the page
The Device Toolbar can emulate device sizes and let you set a responsive viewport. A site may reflow at different widths, so choose a width that produces the layout you want before capturing. The documented full-page command does not require a particular width.
Fix missing or unexpected content
- The full-size command is missing: Check that DevTools and the Device Toolbar are open. You can also open DevTools’ command menu and search for “screenshot”; availability and labels can vary by Chrome version.
- Content is absent from the image: Let the page finish loading, then capture again and inspect the result. Pages with dynamic content, embedded frames, or lazy-loaded regions may not appear exactly as expected.
- The page layout is too narrow or wide: Adjust the Device Toolbar viewport and capture again. The site may use a different responsive layout at each width.
- You only got the visible part: Choose Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot.
Optional: use Chrome Headless from the command line
If you already use command-line tools, Chrome Headless can take screenshots with its --screenshot flag and print pages to PDF. This is a separate, more technical workflow; the cited Headless reference does not establish that its screenshot flag always behaves like DevTools’ full-page command.
