How to Capture a Full-Page Screenshot with GrabzIt

Set GrabzIt’s browser height, output width, and output height to -1 for a full-page screenshot. Choose an SDK, direct REST, or JavaScript ConvertPage for the page already open in a browser.

To capture a full-page screenshot with GrabzIt, set the browser height, output width, and output height to -1. GrabzIt uses these values to capture the page at its full dimensions instead of limiting the image to a viewport. Choose a language SDK for a server-side app, direct REST for an HTTP-based integration, or ConvertPage when you need to capture the page currently open in a visitor’s browser.

Choose the right way to call GrabzIt

  • Server-side application: use GrabzIt’s library for your programming language and pass the full-page dimensions in its screenshot options.
  • Direct HTTP integration: use the REST request described in GrabzIt’s REST setup guide; an SDK is not required.
  • Page already open in a user’s browser: use the JavaScript ConvertPage method. It captures the current page rather than asking a server-side client to open a remote URL.

For a general overview of full-page captures and the documented settings, see GrabzIt’s screenshot API documentation. A full-page or scrolling screenshot is intended to include the whole webpage or document in one image.

Set the full-page dimensions

Use -1 for all three full-page values: browser height, output width, and output height. The option’s capitalization varies between language libraries; use the spelling expected by the library you installed.

Setting Value Purpose
Browser height -1 Requests a browser capture spanning the page vertically.
Output width -1 Lets the output follow the page width.
Output height -1 Lets the output follow the page height.

GrabzIt’s examples use the parameter names BrowserHeight or browserHeight in language libraries. Its browser-side JavaScript example uses bheight and sets the browser width from document.documentElement.clientWidth. Consult the example for your chosen client to match its exact method signature.

Capture the page currently open in a browser

Use GrabzIt’s JavaScript ConvertPage method when the page to capture is the one a visitor is already viewing. The documented example derives the browser width from the document and sets the browser height, output width, and output height to -1. The following is the core configuration pattern; insert it into the corresponding ConvertPage call in the library version you use:

const browserWidth = document.documentElement.clientWidth;
const browserHeight = -1;
const outputWidth = -1;
const outputHeight = -1;

// Pass these values to GrabzIt's ConvertPage options:
// browser width: browserWidth
// browser height: browserHeight
// output width: outputWidth
// output height: outputHeight

This illustrates the settings, not a complete SDK call: GrabzIt’s JavaScript library method signature and result handling depend on the library version and the surrounding application. Follow the official JavaScript setup guide for the complete integration steps.

Set up browser-side JavaScript access

  1. Obtain a GrabzIt application key.
  2. Include the GrabzIt JavaScript library in your page as described in its setup guide.
  3. Authorize the domain that will use the key. A key alone is not sufficient if the domain is not authorized.
  4. Call ConvertPage with the current-page width and full-page dimensions, then handle the returned capture using the library’s documented result method.

Do not put a secret intended for server-side use into browser code. Use the browser library’s application key and domain authorization requirements as documented by GrabzIt.

Wait for delayed content before capturing

A page may not be visually complete at the instant it first loads. GrabzIt’s technical options include waiting for an element, scrolling to an element, and running custom JavaScript. A wait-for-element setting can identify a CSS selector that must be visible before capture.

  • Wait for an element: target a selector that appears when the content you need is ready.
  • Scroll to an element: use the documented scroll control when content is revealed or loaded as the page scrolls.
  • Run custom JavaScript: use this when the page needs an interaction or state change before the screenshot.
  • Add a delay when needed: a scroll or interaction may trigger an animation or asynchronous effect that needs time to appear.

These controls are not a guarantee that every lazy-loaded, interactive, authenticated, or access-controlled page will render as expected. Check the resulting capture against the target page, and adjust the wait or interaction for that site. The available controls are documented in the Node.js options and PHP controls.

Save the screenshot and check the result

Use the save or result-handling method provided by your chosen GrabzIt client. The exact call differs by language and integration. Inspect the output to confirm that the page’s width and lower sections are present; a successful request does not by itself prove that delayed content, scrolling behavior, or access-restricted content appeared as intended.

Troubleshoot common full-page capture problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Only the visible portion is captured One or more full-page dimensions were set to a fixed value, or the wrong capture route was configured. Set browser height, output width, and output height to -1; verify that the options reached the screenshot call.
The browser-side call is rejected or does not run The application key is missing, the library is not included, or the consuming domain is not authorized. Check each JavaScript setup prerequisite and confirm the authorized domain matches the site using the key.
Images or lower-page content are missing The page may load content after the initial render or only after scrolling. Try a wait-for-element condition or scroll control, and add a delay if an interaction’s effects need time to appear.
The screenshot differs from the user-visible page The page may depend on a session, access state, interaction, or timing that the capture has not reproduced. Use ConvertPage for the page already open in the browser when that is the required context; otherwise configure the relevant wait or custom JavaScript and verify the result.

ScreenshotNeo is an alternative screenshot API: it removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. One GET request can return a screenshot; for this example, use cURL to save the result:

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I capture a full page with GrabzIt’s REST API instead of an SDK?

Yes. GrabzIt’s REST setup guide describes making a direct HTTP request without an SDK; use the documented full-page values for the capture options.

Does setting the dimensions to -1 guarantee that every lazy-loaded section appears?

No. The dimensions request a full-page capture, but content that appears only after a delay, scroll, or interaction may need additional wait or page controls.
