A sequential Puppeteer loop is a straightforward starting point: it gives every URL its own bounded wait and error handling, so a missing element fails that page without stopping the rest of the batch.
Build a reliable batch with Puppeteer
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project, choose a selector that reliably identifies the content you need, and create an output directory before running the script. The example below saves full-page PNGs with filenames tied to their position in the URL list.

}The selector is an example, not a universal readiness signal. Replace it with a stable ID, data attribute, or selector for the content your workflow needs. Navigation waits for the DOM to be parsed; the selector wait then provides the page-specific readiness condition. Puppeteer’s selector wait works across navigations, so it can be used in this loop. Present in the DOM is not the same as visible
Use visible: true when the target should be displayed to a user. Without it, a selector wait can resolve as soon as a matching node is added to the DOM, even if it is hidden. The documented default selector-wait timeout is 30 seconds; a timeout throws, which is why the example catches errors inside the per-URL loop rather than around the whole batch. Avoid disabling the timeout unless you provide another explicit deadline.

Capture the page or just the target
page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }) captures the full document. If the deliverable is only the matched region, wait for the selector and capture that element instead:

Use Playwright if it fits your project
Playwright offers the same basic workflow. Its current guidance favors locator-based waits and web-first assertions over older selector-wait patterns. Wait for the locator to become visible before capturing either the page or that element.

Keep batches diagnosable and bounded
- Start sequentially. A single page reused in a loop is easy to reason about, and the URL-to-filename mapping remains explicit. The documentation does not establish a universal safe concurrency limit. Increase concurrency only after observing the workload, runtime, and available resources.
- Record failures per URL. A navigation failure, selector timeout, or screenshot error should be visible in logs as a failed item, not represented as a successful image. For operational batches, write a result record for each URL with its status and error message.
- Use meaningful output names. The sample uses indexes to avoid collisions between URLs with similar paths. If filenames need to be human-readable, sanitize the URL components and still retain a stable unique identifier.
- Choose the right readiness signal. A visible element may appear before its data is finished loading. When the site exposes a more specific “ready” state, wait for that; avoid assuming that navigation completion alone means the screenshot is final.
Troubleshoot missing or poor captures
The selector wait times out
Check that the selector matches the actual rendered page, including any iframe or shadow-root constraints. Confirm whether the target is hidden, delayed, or absent for that URL. Increase the timeout only when the site legitimately needs more time; otherwise retain the timeout and report that URL as failed.
The screenshot is blank or incomplete
Verify that the target is visible before capture and that the page has reached the state your selector represents. domcontentloaded means the initial document was parsed, not that every client-rendered widget or image is ready. If the page exposes a later state or stable content marker, wait for that marker rather than relying on a fixed sleep.

The element screenshot clips content
An element screenshot captures the element’s bounds; a scrollable region may show only its currently scrolled portion. If the desired result is the whole document, use a full-page page screenshot. If the whole scrollable region itself must be represented, the capture strategy has to account for its scrolling behavior.

One bad URL stops the batch
Keep navigation, waiting, and capture inside the loop’s per-URL try/catch. Keep browser cleanup in finally, so an unexpected error does not leave the browser running.
