Each capture is intended to produce a page as a single HTML file with resources such as images and stylesheets included where captured; it is not a mirror of every page linked from a source.
Choose a bulk-saving method
| Method | Best starting point | Repeatability |
|---|---|---|
| Browser multi-tab capture | Pages are already open in the browser | Convenient for a one-time group of tabs |
| URL-list batch capture | You have a prepared list of web addresses | Useful for working through a list; the official project advertises batch-saving URLs |
| SingleFile CLI | You want a command-line or scripted workflow | Designed for command-line use; the project lists versions for Windows, macOS, and Linux |
The project materials establish these routes but do not state a universal maximum batch size or compare their speed. Batch-saving a list means capturing those URLs; it does not mean recursively downloading every page linked from them. See the SingleFile project documentation for the available options.

Save a group of tabs from the browser
- Open the pages you want to keep and wait for each to finish loading. SingleFile’s Chrome listing advises waiting until a page is fully loaded before using the toolbar button.
- Open the browser’s SingleFile context-menu options and choose whether to process selected tabs, unpinned tabs, or all tabs.
- Review the capture options available in your installed version, then start processing the chosen tabs.
- Check the resulting files in the browser’s configured download folder unless you have selected another destination.
For a page that loads content after its initial display, the saved result depends on what is present in the browser page when capture runs. No universal behavior for every dynamic website is established, so inspect important captures rather than assuming delayed content was included.

Batch-save a prepared URL list or use the CLI
URL-list batch capture
If your sources are in a list rather than open tabs, use the URL-list batch-saving feature advertised by the official SingleFile site. Consult the current interface and documentation for its exact controls: the available materials do not establish a universal batch limit or a single set of steps that applies to every installed version.
#1 Best Overall
- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
Command-line capture
SingleFile CLI is the project’s command-line companion and is listed for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Use the official project’s installation and usage instructions for the command syntax supported by your platform and version. A CLI workflow is a better fit than tab selection when you want to repeat a capture process, but the project materials do not provide a comparative speed or reliability benchmark.
Make captures useful as research notes
Keep a source trail
Use a filename that identifies the source, and record the original URL and capture date in your notes. This is a filing recommendation, not an automatic bibliography feature. A saved file preserves a captured page, so the original address remains useful for checking context or returning to the live source.

Add annotations before saving
SingleFile’s annotation editor can highlight text, add notes, and remove content before saving. This can make a capture easier to review later; check the saved version to confirm that the annotations and the material you intended to retain are present.

Choose a destination deliberately
The maintainer README says the default destination is the browser’s configured downloads folder. It also documents Google Drive and GitHub upload settings; the Chrome listing describes Dropbox and WebDAV destinations. Options can vary by installed version, so inspect the settings available to you and choose a stable location for the archive.

What the saved file contains—and what it does not promise
The SingleFile project describes its purpose as saving a complete web page into one HTML file. Its documentation describes capturing resources such as images, stylesheets, fonts, and frames. The result is a captured page, not a full website mirror: the cited feature descriptions do not establish that arbitrary linked pages, linked PDFs, login-protected content, or live interactions will be archived.
The project’s format comparison says ordinary saved HTML can be viewed in a browser without the extension and its text can be indexed. The maintainer documents other output formats, including self-extracting ZIP, MHTML, Safari webarchive, and HTML plus a folder. Their behavior and compatibility differ; do not assume every format opens or indexes identically in every browser.

Verify and troubleshoot your archive
- A page is missing or incomplete: confirm that the intended tab was selected and wait for the page to finish loading before capture. Dynamic content that had not appeared when capture ran may be absent.
- You cannot find the output: check the browser’s configured downloads folder first, then inspect SingleFile’s destination or upload settings.
- A linked document or another page is absent: capture that URL separately if it is part of your research. Bulk capture of a URL list does not establish recursive collection of linked material.
- The file looks different in another browser: try the ordinary HTML output for broad browser viewing, and check the selected format’s compatibility notes. The project documents format differences rather than promising uniform behavior.
- A page relies on sign-in or complex interactions: verify the saved file manually. The available feature descriptions do not guarantee capture of protected content or interactive behavior.
The Chrome Web Store listing checked on October 2, 2026, identified version 1.28.0 and that listing’s update date as October 2, 2026. This is specific to the Chrome listing at that time, not necessarily other distribution channels. The same listing’s developer disclosure says the developer does not collect or use data; that is the store disclosure, not an independent security audit.

If your research workflow needs screenshots rather than saved, locally viewable HTML pages, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and an MCP server for AI agents. A screenshot does not replace SingleFile’s page archive: choose it when an image or PDF of the rendered page is what you need.
Best Value
- Plug-and-play expandability
- SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps)
One GET request returns a screenshot or PDF. For example, with cURL (see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
