If dust does reach the build, do not assume that washing instructions for loose LEGO elements are safe for an assembled model: LEGO Education’s cleaning advice is for disassembled elements, and it does not establish a tested dusting method for completed displays.
Build and place the set with display in mind
Assemble the model according to its supplied instructions. Before choosing a shelf or enclosure, consider the finished model’s footprint, height, and any parts that project beyond its main shape. A case that fits the basic dimensions may still be too tight to place the model inside or remove it without catching fragile details.

Use a stable, level surface that can support the model and its enclosure. Leave enough room to access the display when placing or removing the build; avoid squeezing protruding elements against the case walls or cover.
Choose a cover that fits the actual model
A covered case is the most direct option documented here for reducing dust settling on a display build. LEGO and case vendors describe their products as providing dust protection, but those are product claims rather than independent comparative tests. The available sources do not establish a dust-reduction percentage or prove that one case protects better than another.

The vendor specifies 3 mm acrylic panels, a 5 mm matte black base, and external dimensions of 32 × 26 × 27.3 cm. Its US page showed a price range of $75–$98 when accessed in 2026; price and availability can change. These are vendor specifications and claims, not independent fit or protection test results.
Before ordering, compare the completed model with the case’s usable internal space, not just its exterior dimensions. Check clearance for protruding parts, whether the base supports the build as intended, how the model enters and exits the enclosure, and what assembly the case requires.

The LEGO Group’s US Play and Display Case is a general-purpose, two-level display with a transparent cover and six gray baseplates. LEGO lists its external dimensions as 15.5 × 5.5 × over 7.5 inches. When accessed in 2026, the red version (5006156) showed a price of $39.99 and was available; the blue version (5006157) showed the same price and was sold out. The two-level layout may work for smaller models or minifigures, but do not assume a larger Halloween build will fit. Compare the set’s finished footprint and height with the case’s usable space before buying.

An open shelf avoids the cost and space of a case, but the reviewed sources do not establish a validated way or interval for dusting delicate assembled Halloween models. If minimizing contact with fragile details is the priority, a well-fitted cover is the better-supported approach than relying on a particular brush, air tool, or cleaning schedule.

If dust reaches the model
LEGO Education’s 2020 Hygiene Guidelines advise taking LEGO elements apart before cleaning them. For those loose elements, the guidance recommends hand-cleaning with a soft cloth or sponge, soap, and water no hotter than 104°F (40°C). It also says elements should not be exposed to temperatures above 140°F (60°C). This is classroom-oriented hygiene guidance for elements; it is not a tested cleaning routine for an assembled display model.

Methods and substances LEGO Education warns against
- Do not clean LEGO elements in a dishwasher or washing machine.
- Do not dry elements in an oven, microwave, or with a hairdryer.
- Do not use disinfectants on decorated or transparent elements without accounting for the stated risks: LEGO Education warns they can damage decorations, haze transparent parts, or cause cracks and imperfections.
Electronic or intelligent hardware
For electronic or intelligent hardware, LEGO Education advises unplugging sensors and motors and avoiding submersion or spraying. If disinfection is necessary, it recommends gently wiping exterior surfaces with a disposable wipe or a moistened microfiber cloth. Its guidance warns that disinfectants may damage decorations or transparent elements, so this advice should not be read as a general cleaning method for an assembled decorative model.
