To register a .si domain, check the name in Register.si’s lookup, then order it through a provider listed in Register.si’s official registrar list. Before paying, verify the name’s format and status, compare the registrar’s current first-year and renewal terms, and enter contact details you can keep up to date. The registry does not publish a complete retail price comparison or rank registrars.
Register a .si domain in five steps
- Search for the name. Use the domain lookup on Register.si. A name may be unavailable or reserved even when it meets the technical format rules.
- Check that the name meets the rules. Register.si says a .si name must contain 2 to 63 characters, use permitted characters, not begin or end with a hyphen, and not have two consecutive hyphens in the third and fourth positions. The general terms specify the permitted character set, including Latin letters, numerals, hyphens, and listed internationalized characters. Check the current registry guidance if you want to use non-ASCII characters.
- Choose an authorized registrar. Find providers on Register.si’s official registrar list and confirm that the provider currently offers .si registration. Slovenia’s SPOT business portal also says .si domains can be registered with any authorized registrar.
- Compare the provider’s current terms, then submit the order. Check the registration period, initial price, renewal price, taxes, and any bundle conditions. Enter accurate holder information and a working email address you monitor.
- Save your account and renewal details. Keep the registrar account credentials, renewal date, and contact details accessible. Register.si says the holder can request renewal for one to five years through the registrar before the 30-day quarantine period ends.

SPOT says that a .si domain can be registered through any authorized registrar. The official materials cited here do not establish a specific residence requirement or explain every eligibility edge case. Do not assume either that every applicant is eligible without restriction or that a Slovenian address is always required; check the current registrar requirements and registry rules for your situation.

Keep holder information accurate and reachable
The domain holder is responsible for ensuring registration information remains accurate. Register.si says a registrar verifies at least one contact method at registration or renewal and emphasizes the importance of a functional email address for communications. Use an address you can access over the long term, and update it through your registrar if it changes.
Renewal, transfers, and cancellation
Renew before quarantine
Register.si says renewals are requested through the registrar and may be for one to five years. The request must be made before the 30-day quarantine period ends. Check the registrar account for the domain’s specific expiry and renewal status rather than relying on a reminder email alone.
Move the domain to another registrar
Register.si describes an AuthInfo-based transfer. The holder obtains or sets the AuthInfo code through the existing registrar or its online services, then gives the code to the new registrar to complete the move. Before starting, check both providers’ current instructions and make sure you can access the existing registrar account.

Understand the 16-day return condition
Register.si describes a cancellation or return route within 16 days after registration only while the domain remains inactive and has the relevant Add Period status. Once nameserver records have been submitted and the domain activated, the registry says it cannot be returned. This is not an unconditional refund window; check the domain’s status and the registrar’s terms before relying on it.
