Yes—you can create an HTML dashboard in SharePoint with Copilot. Start an HTML page, describe the audience, data and layout you need, then review the generated draft before publishing. The page is saved in the site’s Site Pages library. You can also upload an existing HTML file, but publishing only makes it visible to people who already have permission to view it.
Choose how to create the dashboard
| Route | Best starting point | Prerequisite |
|---|---|---|
| Create with Copilot | You want a new page generated from a prompt and then refined. | A Microsoft 365 Copilot license and permission to create or edit pages. |
| Upload or move HTML | You already have an HTML file to use as the page. | SharePoint file permissions; the Copilot license is not required for uploading or moving HTML. |
Microsoft’s HTML page guidance describes both routes. The Copilot chat pane is the licensed feature; directly editing page content, publishing, and viewing are permission-governed actions and do not require that license.

Create a dashboard with Copilot
- Check access and site settings. Confirm you can create or edit pages and, for Copilot-pane authoring, have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. If HTML page creation or upload is unavailable, ask a site owner to check the Site Pages library’s Allow HTML files setting. HTML pages are enabled by default, but the setting can be turned off and re-enabled by a site owner.
- Open the HTML page workflow. On the SharePoint site, select + New > HTML page. You can also select + Create > HTML page from the Publish landing page, or open the floating Copilot button on the site.
- Describe the dashboard you need. Specify who will use it, the source content, key metrics, sections, layout and brand colors. Attach relevant files if they will help Copilot produce a useful draft. For example, request a project-status dashboard with milestone, risk and owner sections based on an attached project report.
- Review and refine the draft. Check the generated content in edit mode. You can edit text directly on the canvas or use the Copilot chat pane for broader content and design changes. Name the section and the change you want—for example, ask to add an FAQ section or change a particular background color.
- Save or publish. Confirm the page is in the Site Pages library. Select Save and close to keep a draft, or Publish when it is ready. Use Share separately to grant or distribute access to the intended people or group. Publishing does not change the page’s permissions.
Plan the dashboard around SharePoint’s HTML sandbox
SharePoint displays HTML pages in a sandboxed iframe, separate from the site’s header, footer and navigation, with Content Security Policy controls. Design the dashboard as a self-contained page rather than assuming it can behave like an unrestricted web app.
- Use supported data sources. Microsoft documents live data sharing from SharePoint lists and Excel. Arbitrary network requests, including
fetchcalls and outbound API calls, are blocked; live data from third-party services such as Jira is not supported. Do not build a dashboard that depends on custom JavaScript directly calling a remote API. - Choose supported libraries. Microsoft lists Chart.js, Mermaid, React, Fluent UI and Babylon as supported Microsoft-managed CDN libraries. Other CDN-hosted scripts are unsupported. JavaScript included in the same HTML file is supported, but the sandbox cannot access browser
localStorage. - Keep uploads within the limit. The maximum HTML upload size is 10 MB. If a file is too large, remove unused markup, reduce inline CSS and JavaScript, or reference hosted assets instead.
- Check external links. Links outside SharePoint may require a site administrator to add the destination domain to the HTML Field Security allow list. Cross-tenant links support navigation, not cross-tenant communication.
- Account for branding. Copilot-created pages use site branding. An uploaded HTML page does not automatically inherit it; you can prompt Copilot to match the site.
Know what an HTML page can and cannot do
SharePoint HTML pages have limits beyond data connectivity. Microsoft’s feature matrix says they cannot be promoted to news posts, saved as templates, scheduled, co-authored, or given reactions and comments. If your dashboard needs one of those capabilities, check whether another SharePoint page type or reporting approach better fits the requirement.

Licensing and rollout availability
Microsoft Learn says the general-availability rollout for Copilot in SharePoint begins September 30, 2026; when a feature appears depends on tenant rollout progress. Everyday Copilot in SharePoint capabilities are included with an active Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Advanced work uses usage-based billing and Copilot Credits. Site owners can manage availability through Site AI settings, and Restricted Content Discovery is respected.
Microsoft’s HTML page support guidance also says some functionality is being introduced gradually to organizations opted in to Microsoft Frontier, so a feature may not yet appear or may look different in a given tenant. Check Microsoft’s HTML page support guidance and Copilot in SharePoint documentation for the current details applicable to your organization.
