Talismans provide passive boosts, and the official Xbox Wire hands-on preview reported three talisman slots. Their value depends on how their effects work alongside your weapons, armor, artifacts, and enchantments. Official sources do not establish best-in-slot talisman recipes for melee, ranged, tank, or support playstyles, so use the effects shown in your current game version to guide your choices.
How talismans fit into a build
Minecraft Dungeons II does not use fixed character classes in the previewed system. Instead, you shape your role through the equipment you select: melee and ranged weapons, artifacts, armor, and talismans. Artifacts provide active abilities, while talismans add passive bonuses. As Mojang design director Laura de Llorens put it on the Official Xbox Podcast, “We also added talismans, which are passive boosts.”

Think of a talisman as one part of a combined loadout. A passive effect that sounds useful on its own may add little if your other items already cover that need; an effect that complements a weapon or artifact may be more valuable. Start with the role you want, then inspect what your equipment already contributes before filling the available slots.
Choose talismans by playstyle
Use these as decision prompts, not guaranteed item recipes. The official materials do not provide a complete talisman list, exact stat values, or tested rankings for each role.

Companion or minion play
The clearest official example is a bone talisman that summoned a dog companion. In the Xbox Wire hands-on preview, the dog attacked enemies, drew their attention, took damage, and respawned after a short timer. The author paired it with a weapon enchantment that could create regeneration spots when enemies were killed. That combination suggests a companion-and-sustain direction: the companion can draw attention while the weapon interaction supports recovery. The preview does not give an exact proc chance or cooldown, or show that this setup outperforms alternatives.
Melee or aggressive play
First check what your melee weapon, armor, and artifacts already do. The gamescom hands-on describes combat that rewards aggressive engagement, but it does not name a talisman as the best choice for melee. Choose a passive effect to address a need you can identify—such as a gap in the effects visible on your current loadout—and rely on its in-game description rather than assuming it will improve damage or survival.

Ranged play
The gamescom preview demonstrates a ranged-focused character and describes enchantment combinations involving dodge-triggered arrows and fire arrows. Those are weapon-enchantment examples, not talisman recommendations. For a ranged build, inspect whether a talisman’s stated passive effect complements your weapon, armor, and artifact choices; do not treat the preview’s arrow effects as evidence for a particular talisman.

The bone-talisman preview offers one possible defensive interaction: its dog companion drew enemy attention, while the player’s weapon enchantment could create regeneration spots on kills. Those observations can inform a companion-plus-recovery approach, but they do not establish that the bone talisman makes a character tanky or that it is the right choice for every survivability build.

Review the whole loadout, then refine it
Use the Effects and Enchantments menu described by Xbox Wire to review effects across weapons, armor, and talismans. The official Minecraft gameplay-systems article also describes armor as four pieces and reports an expansion from six to twelve combat slots; that figure refers to combat slots, not twelve talisman slots. The useful question is whether the combined effects support your intended role, not whether one item looks powerful in isolation.
- Pick a job: Decide whether you want to focus on companions, melee pressure, ranged attacks, or staying power.
- Check your current effects: Review your weapons, armor, artifacts, and talismans in the Effects and Enchantments menu. Note what already supports the job and what appears to be missing.
- Read the talisman description: Select a passive effect only when its stated behavior fits your goal or complements another item. Treat interactions as unproven unless the game or an official source confirms them.
- Refine equipment and enchantments: The official Minecraft article describes collecting enchantment books in a library and applying effects to a gear slot through the Enchantsmith. Xbox Wire describes the Blacksmith as a way to upgrade equipment or reroll a buff.
- Recheck after loot changes: When you replace an item or change an enchantment, review the combined effects again. A talisman’s fit can change when the rest of the loadout changes.
These options support experimentation rather than a single fixed class recipe. De Llorens described the design goal on the Official Xbox Podcast as: “The fact that we have that yin and yang has helped us a lot in making it as clean, simple, and approachable, but also with all this depth and all the stat screens.”

What the official examples do—and do not—establish
The official sources establish passive talisman bonuses and, in the Xbox Wire preview, three talisman slots. They also provide a concrete bone-talisman companion example and describe systems for reviewing and refining equipment effects. They do not publish a complete talisman catalogue, exact values for all effects, or verified best combinations by playstyle. Treat preview observations as examples, and base your own selections on descriptions and interactions visible in your current game version.
