For an Amazon-focused consumer tracker, Keepa documents product data, price history, and tracking; Amazon’s Product Pricing API is documented for seller pricing automation, not as a general consumer price-history API.
Choose the data source before designing the tracker
The source determines which products and marketplaces you can cover, what price and offer history is available, how updates arrive, and what access or usage costs apply. Compare providers on those dimensions before committing to a product experience or database schema.

| Approach | Documented purpose and data | Update and alert model | Access and limits to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keepa API | Amazon marketplace product information, price histories, offers, deals, seller information, and product search. | Tracking supports price thresholds and availability conditions; notifications can be delivered by webhook or retrieved through API requests. | Requires an API key and API plan. Endpoint token costs vary; check the current plan and marketplace coverage. |
| Amazon Selling Partner API Product Pricing API | Seller price automation and repricing workflows, including offer-related changes. | Amazon documents seller-facing event workflows, including notifications about changes to top offers or the Featured Offer. | Confirm current developer eligibility, roles, and marketplace scope. The cited documentation does not establish broad consumer price histories. |
Keepa for Amazon consumer price tracking
Keepa’s API overview describes HTTPS requests and JSON responses, and lists product requests, keyword search, product finder, deals, and tracking. Its tracking model supports desired-price thresholds and conditions such as out-of-stock or back-in-stock. Begin with Keepa’s API documentation and tracking documentation to check the endpoints and current access terms relevant to your use case.
Do not assume every endpoint has the same token cost or that a particular quota is included. The plan and endpoint usage need to fit your polling or tracking design; verify current details with the provider before estimating operating cost.
#1 Best Overall
- Four Tags for Everyday Essentials — Keep track of keys, bags, backpacks and luggage with a four-pack of FancyDove tracker tags. Attach one to each item and give it a clear name in Find My.
- Works with Apple Find My — Add each tag to the Items tab in Apple's Find My app on a compatible iPhone or iPad. Designed for Apple devices; Android pairing is not supported.
- Ring Nearby, Locate on the Map — Play a sound when your tag is within Bluetooth range. Away from you, the Find My network can help report its location when detected by a nearby participating Apple device. Location updates depend on network availability.
- Help When an Item Goes Missing — Enable supported left-behind notifications in Find My and use Lost Mode for a missing item. This is an item finder, not a real-time GPS tracker; alerts and location updates are not guaranteed to be immediate.
- Replaceable Battery, Simple Setup — Powered by a replaceable CR2032 battery. Follow the included instructions to activate each tag, choose Add Other Item in Find My, and assign an item name. Check the device requirements before pairing.
Amazon’s API for seller workflows
Amazon’s Product Pricing API documentation describes apps that automate and manage prices on behalf of sellers. Its ANY_OFFER_CHANGED notification concerns changes to the top 20 offers or Featured Offer; Amazon distinguishes this from PRICING_HEALTH. The repricing workflow guide describes event-driven seller price management using Product Pricing API version 2022-05-01 and Notifications API v1.
That seller scope is not evidence that the API is a general consumer price-history service. If your product is for shoppers tracking items they may buy, select a source that explicitly supplies the product history and coverage you need rather than treating seller repricing events as a substitute.

Separate catalog, collection, rules, and delivery
A maintainable first version benefits from separating a product’s identity, source-specific collection, saved observations, alert conditions, and notification delivery. This is an architecture recommendation based on the capabilities the providers document, not a vendor-prescribed reference design.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Product catalog: Store the chosen source and its stable product identifier. For Keepa tracking and notification objects, Amazon products are identified by ASIN. Also record the selected marketplace so the app does not silently mix regional data.
- Source adapter: Isolate authentication, product lookup, marketplace selection, response parsing, and update behavior behind a provider-specific interface. Keepa exposes distinct product, search, and tracking endpoints, so an adapter prevents those details from leaking into alert logic.
- Price observations: Save normalized price values as timestamped records rather than overwriting a single current-price field. Include currency, marketplace, condition or offer context when available, and a reference to the source record or response. This preserves useful history and makes later corrections or debugging possible.
- Alert rules: Store each user’s target price and availability preferences independently of collection. A rule should identify the product, trigger condition, and destination; source tracking examples include desired prices and out-of-stock conditions.
- Notification worker: Evaluate rules against observations or source events, then deliver notifications asynchronously. Record the event, rule evaluation, and delivery outcome so a retry can be handled without sending a confusing duplicate.
- Operations and usage monitoring: Record request failures, stale observations, duplicate events, and provider usage. Keepa uses API tokens and publishes endpoint token costs, so monitor consumption against the current plan.
Model prices with enough context to be useful
A displayed price is not meaningful without its currency and marketplace. Where the source supplies it, preserve offer context such as seller, condition, shipping, stock, and offer price history. A lowest price may refer to a different seller or condition than the offer a shopper expects to buy.

Keepa documents marketplace offer objects with seller, condition, shipping, stock, and offer price histories, but cautions that the returned offer set can change and may contain outdated offers. Present sourced values as observations, not guarantees that an offer remains available at checkout. Keep collection time alongside the price so users can distinguish a recent observation from a stale one.
Design alerts for clear triggers and reliable delivery
Define what should trigger an alert
Choose a specific condition: price at or below a target, a defined price drop, out-of-stock, or back-in-stock. Keep the trigger semantics explicit—for example, whether a target alert fires once per product or again after the price rises and later falls below the target.

Keep source events separate from user alerts
A source reporting a changed price and your app delivering a user notification are two different events. Store both, along with the rule evaluation, so you can audit why an alert fired and safely retry delivery after a transient failure. Use an idempotency key or equivalent deduplication rule based on the source event and alert rule.
Account for retention and channel behavior
Keepa says its Tracking API supports notifications through push webhooks or API pull requests, and its tracking creation documentation says API is currently the available notification channel for API tracking. Keepa notification objects are deleted after 24 hours. A polling client should retrieve and persist notifications promptly; a webhook receiver should acknowledge only after it has durably stored the event, or otherwise ensure a retry can recover it.

Plan for coverage, freshness, and cost
Before launch, test the intended workflow against the provider’s current documentation and plan. Check:
- Market and product coverage: Required locales, identifiers, offer types, and whether the products your users select are available.
- Historical depth and data shape: Whether the source supplies product price history, offer history, and the context your interface intends to display.
- Update and notification behavior: Whether updates are pulled or pushed, which triggers exist, and how long events remain available.
- Access and operating cost: API eligibility, plan requirements, quotas, token usage, and the maintenance cost of your polling or webhook infrastructure.
- Freshness and confidence: How old an observation may be and whether offers can be incomplete or outdated.
For Amazon-specific apps, Keepa’s plan and API token model should inform collection frequency and cost controls. For a seller tool using Amazon’s Selling Partner API, confirm access requirements and marketplace scope directly in Amazon’s current developer documentation before building against it.
