There are two different team-building questions behind “a Mega Sableye team”: choosing allies for your own Mega Sableye in raids, or choosing counters to defeat Mega Sableye as a raid boss. The answers are not interchangeable. Mega Sableye’s clearest raid role is supporting allied Dark- and Ghost-type attackers, while Fairy-type Pokémon are the priority when you are fighting it. For GO Battle League, you can use a Mega Pokémon only if a special event cup allows it; check that cup’s current rules before building a lineup.
Start by deciding which side of the raid you mean. If Mega Sableye is on your team, build around the Dark- and Ghost-type support it provides and compare that benefit with bringing a stronger direct attacker. If it is the raid boss, focus on Fairy damage instead. The Pokémon GO Help Center also limits Mega use in GO Battle League to special event cups, so a regular league team cannot simply include Mega Sableye.

Start by choosing the battle mode
Mega Sableye is a Dark/Ghost Pokémon, but its usefulness depends on whether it is on your side or the raid boss’s side. When you bring your own Mega Sableye to a raid, its niche is helping allied Dark- and Ghost-type Pokémon deal more damage. When you are raiding against Mega Sableye, build around Fairy-type damage instead. In GO Battle League, Mega-Evolved Pokémon are generally excluded, with special event cups as the exception.
- Using Mega Sableye in raids: Consider it for a team built around Dark- or Ghost-type attackers, particularly against a Psychic raid boss.
- Defeating Mega Sableye in a raid: Prioritize strong Fairy attackers; Mega Gardevoir is one Mega option named in the cited counter guide.
- Using it in PvP: First confirm in the current in-game event rules that the cup permits Mega-Evolved Pokémon, then check its CP and species restrictions.
These are separate goals. A lineup designed to benefit from Mega Sableye’s raid support is not the same as a counter team designed to beat a Mega Sableye raid. In particular, Fairy is the relevant attacking type against the raid boss, whereas the support niche described for your own Mega Sableye is for allies using Dark and Ghost attacks. Choose the party only after identifying the opponent and battle format.

What Mega Sableye contributes to a raid team
Mega Sableye is better understood as a support choice than as a direct raid attacker. Pokémon GO Hub’s Mega Sableye database does not rank it as a raid attacker; it identifies its niche as boosting allied Dark- and Ghost-type Pokémon. Those types are both used against Psychic raid bosses, which is where the support role can make sense. The database recommends Shadow Claw as its Fast Attack and Foul Play as its Charged Attack. See the Mega Sableye database entry.
Build around the boss, not just the Mega
First identify the raid boss and the type of attackers that are useful against it. If Dark- and Ghost-type attackers are appropriate, Mega Sableye may contribute through its team-support niche. Fill the rest of the party with your strongest suitable attackers of those types. The database does not establish a specific three-Pokémon lineup, so your best choices depend on the Pokémon you own, their moves, and their strength.
In practical terms, do not add Dark- or Ghost-type Pokémon just because Mega Sableye is available. Their attacks need to suit the raid boss too. Against a Psychic boss, those types are the stated reason Mega Sableye’s support role may be useful. Against a different boss, check which attackers are actually appropriate before deciding whether the same plan makes sense. A Mega choice should complement the raid matchup, not dictate it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNext, compare the Dark- and Ghost-type options in your own roster. Give priority to attackers whose moves match the type you are relying on, then weigh their level and how well they can stay in the fight. A team built from your strongest usable Pokémon is more practical than a theoretical lineup you cannot field. The available database guidance identifies the support types and a recommended Mega Sableye moveset, but it does not name a universal roster of allies or establish an exact party sequence.
Weigh support against direct damage
Choosing Mega Sableye means choosing its support role rather than a Pokémon the database ranks as a raid attacker. If your team needs more direct damage, compare it with the strongest attacker you could bring instead. If you keep Mega Sableye, make sure your other party members can take advantage of its Dark- and Ghost-type boost; otherwise, the support niche may not fit that raid group.
This is a tradeoff, not a rule that Mega Sableye is always the wrong pick for attacking. Its value depends on the rest of the party and the boss. For example, if the raid plan already relies on Dark- and Ghost-type attackers against a Psychic boss, the support role has a clear fit. If your best party is built around other types, the team may not benefit from that particular niche. Consider both the benefit to allies and the direct damage you give up by not bringing another attacker.

Mega Evolution does not give Sableye a replacement moveset: the Pokémon GO Help Center says, “Also, a Pokémon’s Fast and Charged Attacks don’t change when they’re Mega-Evolved.” The recommended Shadow Claw and Foul Play are therefore the listed moveset for Mega Sableye, not a special set that appears only after Mega Evolution. Read the official Mega Evolution rules.
That rule makes the moveset decision straightforward: assess the attacks on your Sableye before Mega Evolving it. Mega Evolution changes its role in the team, but it does not automatically change its Fast or Charged Attacks. Shadow Claw and Foul Play are the moves recommended by the cited database entry; they should not be described as a separate Mega-only moveset.
How to build a team to beat Mega Sableye
If Mega Sableye is the raid boss, choose Fairy attackers first. Its matchup chart lists Fairy as its only weakness, with Fairy damage shown at 160%. The same chart lists strong resistance to Normal and Psychic, so those types are poor priorities for this matchup. The Mega Sableye matchup chart provides those type relationships.
- Prioritize your strongest Fairy attackers. Compare the Fairy Pokémon you can actually bring by their move typing, level, and ability to stay in the fight. The available counter guidance recommends Fairy attackers generally and lists Mega Gardevoir among its suggested Mega choices.
- Consider whether a party Mega helps the group. If a player can bring a Mega whose boost benefits the party’s damage, factor that in alongside the individual attackers. The raid guide names Mega Gardevoir as an option; it does not establish one universally best Mega or a guaranteed party composition.
- Use your roster and execution to judge party size. Pokémon GO Hub’s raid counter guide, published September 3, 2026, estimates that “Around 2-5 trainers with strong and high-level Pokémon” can defeat Mega Sableye. Treat that as the guide’s estimate, not a guarantee: team strength and execution affect the result. Read the Mega Sableye raid counter guide.
That counter advice applies to a raid against Mega Sableye. It does not mean Fairy attackers benefit from Mega Sableye’s own raid-support niche; its database-described support is for allied Dark- and Ghost-type Pokémon.
Compare counters you can actually use
There is no single counter lineup that is right for every Trainer. Start with the Fairy attackers you have available, and look at the typing of their moves rather than relying only on the Pokémon’s species label. Then compare their level and their ability to remain in the battle. A high-level Pokémon with suitable Fairy damage may be a more useful choice for your party than a nominally attractive option that is underpowered or does not fit the intended attack plan.
Also consider what the rest of the raid group is bringing. Mega Gardevoir is named as one Mega choice in the counter guide, but that is not a guarantee that it will be the best choice for every roster or group. If another Trainer can provide a Mega boost that benefits the party’s damage, include that in the comparison. Only one Mega-Evolved Pokémon can be active for an individual Trainer at a time, so each person must make their own choice; do not plan as though one Trainer can bring multiple Megas simultaneously.

Use the raid estimate carefully
The September 3, 2026 Pokémon GO Hub guide estimates that around two to five Trainers with strong, high-level Pokémon can defeat Mega Sableye. This gives a rough sense of the group size the guide considers possible, not a promise that any group in that range will win. The estimate itself depends on the strength of the Pokémon involved, and actual results also depend on execution. If your available counters are weaker or the group’s choices do not align well with the matchup, do not treat the minimum of that range as a safe target.
When organizing a raid, use the estimate as context and make decisions based on the people and Pokémon actually present. Strong Fairy attackers are the central recommendation; the guide does not provide a universal guaranteed party for all levels, moves, or group sizes. The goal is to build the strongest suitable team you can field, not to reproduce an unsupported fixed lineup.
Can you use Mega Sableye in GO Battle League?
Not in ordinary GO Battle League play. The official rule excludes Mega-Evolved Pokémon except during special event cups. Because cup eligibility and restrictions are event-specific, confirm that the active cup admits Mega Pokémon and check its CP and eligible-species rules in game before investing in a PvP team. The official support page explains the Mega battle-use restrictions: Using a Mega-Evolved Pokémon.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →There is no reliable basis here for naming a current cup or prescribing a simulation-backed trio. Once you have verified that Mega Sableye is eligible, build for that cup’s actual rules rather than assuming a standard Great, Ultra, or Master League lineup can include it.
For an event cup, check two things before spending time preparing a lineup: first, whether Mega-Evolved Pokémon are permitted at all; second, the cup’s CP and eligible-species restrictions. A special cup is an exception to the normal restriction, not a blanket promise that every Mega Pokémon is eligible in every event. The active rules, not a past cup or a general league assumption, determine whether Mega Sableye can be used.
If the cup does allow it, the team still needs to be built for that cup’s rules and opponents. No current event cup or simulation-backed trio is established here, so a specific three-Pokémon recommendation would be misleading. Treat eligibility as the first gate, then use the live cup restrictions to decide whether Mega Sableye belongs in your roster.

Other rules that affect your team plan
- Only one Mega at a time: A Trainer can have only one Mega-Evolved Pokémon active at once, so Mega Sableye occupies that choice for your team.
- Moves remain the same: Mega Evolution does not replace a Pokémon’s Fast or Charged Attacks.
- Gym battles and defending: Official support says Mega attack boosts apply in Gym battles, but a Mega Pokémon cannot be left to defend a Gym.
These rules are described in the official Mega Evolution help article and the official Mega battle-use article.

The one-Mega limit matters most when choosing between team support and another Mega option. If you are taking Mega Sableye into a raid, you cannot also use a second Mega on that same Trainer’s active team. Likewise, Mega Gardevoir is a suggested option for a raid against Mega Sableye, not something one Trainer can add alongside another active Mega. Other players may make their own choices, but your own party plan has to account for the limit.
The Gym rules are a separate use case from raids and GO Battle League. Official support says Mega attack boosts apply in Gym battles, while also making clear that a Mega Pokémon cannot be left behind to defend a Gym. That means a Mega can have an offensive role in Gym battles without serving as a stationary Gym defender. Do not confuse the ability to battle with it and the ability to assign it as a defender.
A practical decision checklist
- Want to use Mega Sableye in a raid? Check whether Dark- and Ghost-type attackers suit the raid boss. If they do, consider Mega Sableye for support; if your party needs a stronger direct attacker, compare that alternative before choosing.
- Want to defeat Mega Sableye? Lead your counter planning with Fairy attackers, including Mega Gardevoir as one option if it fits your roster.
- Want to use it in PvP? Verify that the specific event cup allows Mega Pokémon and read the live CP and species limits first.
Before committing to a party, answer these questions in order: What is the battle mode? Is Mega Sableye an ally or the opponent? Which type of damage suits the raid boss? Does the rest of the party benefit from Mega Sableye’s Dark- and Ghost-type support, or would a direct attacker be more useful? For PvP, is Mega use specifically allowed by the active cup? Those checks keep the team plan tied to the actual matchup rather than the Pokémon’s Mega status alone.
Finally, check current in-game raid and cup listings when planning. Raid rosters, event cups, and eligibility rules can change. The strategic principles here remain distinct: use Mega Sableye for its Dark- and Ghost-support niche when that fits a raid, use Fairy damage to counter it as a boss, and confirm event rules before considering it for GO Battle League.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Pokémon are good with Mega Sableye?
For raids where Dark- and Ghost-type attackers are useful—particularly against Psychic raid bosses—those are the allies that can make use of Mega Sableye’s support niche. Choose the strongest suitable Pokémon in your own roster and check that their moves fit the matchup; no universal lineup is established.
Best Value
What is Mega Sableye weak to in Pokémon GO?
Its matchup chart lists Fairy as its only weakness, with Fairy damage shown at 160%. The chart also lists strong resistance to Normal and Psychic, so Fairy attackers are the priority when fighting it as a raid boss.
Can you use Mega Sableye in the GO Battle League?
Not in ordinary GO Battle League play. Mega-Evolved Pokémon are excluded except in special event cups. Check the active cup’s eligibility, CP limit, and species rules in game before building a team.
What counters Mega Sableye in raids?
Use strong Fairy attackers. Mega Gardevoir is one Mega option named in the Pokémon GO Hub counter guide, but the best party depends on the Pokémon, moves, and levels available to your group.
How many Trainers does it take to beat Mega Sableye?
A Pokémon GO Hub guide published September 3, 2026 estimates around two to five Trainers with strong, high-level Pokémon. It is a guide estimate rather than a guarantee; roster strength and execution affect the outcome.
Does Mega Evolution change Sableye’s moves?
No. The Pokémon GO Help Center says a Pokémon’s Fast and Charged Attacks do not change when it Mega Evolves. The Mega Sableye database recommends Shadow Claw and Foul Play.
The Bottom Line
Build around the matchup, not just the Mega. Mega Sableye’s raid niche is supporting allied Dark- and Ghost-type attackers, especially when those types suit a Psychic boss; it is not ranked as a direct raid attacker in the cited database. If you are fighting Mega Sableye, prioritize Fairy damage. For GO Battle League, use it only when a special event cup explicitly permits Mega-Evolved Pokémon, and follow that cup’s current restrictions.
