That makes the camp easier to inspect and maintain—not enemy-proof. Bethesda’s public guidance does not establish a guaranteed defense layout, enemy-spawn behavior, or turret strategy.
Choose a site that is simple to build on and watch
Start with terrain before choosing a building shape. Bethesda recommends flat ground as an easier place to position foundations; placement feedback shows whether a location is valid. A site with naturally limited approaches can make the area easier to monitor, but that is practical layout advice, not a game rule or guarantee about where enemies will appear.

Terrain fit matters if you move a camp or try to reuse a saved layout: a blueprint that fit one spot may be difficult to place where the ground is different. Bethesda explains C.A.M.P. placement, moving, and budget basics in its C.A.M.P. support guide.
Build one compact, visible core
Put the essentials you use most in one small enclosed structure. Arrange the entrance and any open sides so you can see them from the core, rather than creating several disconnected rooms, long corridors, or blind corners. A compact footprint is easier to inspect and leaves more room in the limited C.A.M.P. budget for useful objects.

Budget accounting includes stored objects and blueprints, even when they are not currently placed. If the budget is tight, review what is stored as well as what is built before adding decorative or defensive pieces. The budget benefit of a smaller layout is a practical inference from Bethesda’s stated cap and accounting rules, not an official performance rating.
Use placement modes to make the layout fit
Bethesda’s C.A.M.P. Revamp relaxed Adventure Mode building restrictions. The September 23, 2025 release notes describe three placement modes: Snap, Collision, and Free. Snap works as before; Collision avoids automatic snapping while respecting collisions; Free uses neither snapping nor collision checks. These options can help solve construction-fit problems, but they do not make a structure more resistant to enemies.

The same notes describe placing walls beneath floors and attaching upper floors to walls without stairs. Some item types still require placement on the ground, so a design that works for one piece may not work for another. For the update context, see Bethesda’s C.A.M.P. Revamp release notes and its September 2, 2025 update announcement.

Treat turrets or traps as optional tools, not a dependable defense recipe. Place only what you are prepared to maintain, then check that the objects and the entrances you care about are visible and accessible in your own build. Official sources reviewed here do not provide a validated turret-placement strategy or support claims that turrets reliably detect or stop particular enemy types.

Use a Shelter for a separate interior space
A Shelter is an instanced underground space with its own budget and saved interior. It can suit a bunker-style room, display area, or overflow project without expanding the surface structure. Bethesda describes Shelters as separate from the main C.A.M.P.; that does not mean a Shelter protects the active surface camp from attacks. See Bethesda’s C.A.M.P. Shelters guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep shared builds distinct from active-camp defense
Best Builds lets players share a C.A.M.P. snapshot for others to explore and interact with. Bethesda says the submitted snapshot cannot be destroyed by enemies, nukes, or other players. That protection applies to the shared snapshot—not to the player’s active C.A.M.P. The distinction is explained in Bethesda’s Best Builds guide.
