You can stream videos stored in Google Drive as a continuous YouTube Live feed, but Drive is storage—not a YouTube encoder or a folder-based live playlist. The practical setup is to make authorized video files available to an encoder, have a playlist process feed them in sequence, then send the encoded stream to YouTube and monitor it. How the setup fits together
A 24/7 study stream has four distinct parts: an eligible YouTube channel, accessible video files, a playlist or automation layer, and an encoder sending the feed to YouTube Live. Google Drive can provide the source files, but it does not by itself turn a folder into a continuous YouTube broadcast.

1. Make sure the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do this before you plan to launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Enter both in the encoder you choose. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder in advance, starting it before the broadcast, checking the preview in Live Control Room, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. 2. Get Drive videos into a usable playlist
A folder in Drive is not automatically a playlist source for every encoder. For video files stored as binary content, Google Drive’s API supports downloading file content with files.get and alt=media. The process needs permission to read the files and an appropriate content-read OAuth scope; metadata-only access is not enough. Before downloading, check the file’s capabilities.canDownload value. For a straightforward build, download or sync the permitted files to storage the playlist software can read, then configure that software to select and sequence the local copies. If an application claims to connect directly to Drive, check its supported file formats, permissions, folder-update behavior, and authorization requirements for unattended use. An automated download also needs an authorization arrangement that remains valid, and it must handle revoked access or unavailable files gracefully.

- Choose a deterministic order or an intentional shuffle, and decide whether the playlist loops.
- Test what happens if a file is missing, unreadable, or damaged.
- Determine whether newly added or replaced Drive files are picked up automatically or require a fresh sync.
- Keep a local cache available to the playlist process so a temporary Drive or authorization issue does not leave it without media.
3. Feed the playlist through an encoder to YouTube
Use an encoder that can play, or receive, the sequenced video feed and send it to YouTube’s ingestion endpoint. The playlist layer determines what plays; the encoder turns that media into the live stream. For a static study stream, a low-motion visual loop or scheduled playlist can keep the presentation simple, but it should not imply that a live class or event is taking place if it is prerecorded.

In the encoder, configure YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Start the encoder, confirm that the feed appears in Live Control Room, and then start the broadcast using YouTube’s workflow. YouTube documents the relationship between a broadcast and its incoming stream in its Live Streaming API overview.
4. Set encoder quality and test the actual feed
Use YouTube’s encoder settings guide for current supported values. It supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 with RTMP/RTMPS; recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed 4 seconds; and recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection. The H.264 bitrate examples below are encoder-ingestion settings, not a promise about the bitrate viewers will receive—YouTube transcodes streams for playback.

Choose a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain steadily. Test the feed with the real video and audio, speed-test the available upload capacity, check the preview and stream health, and make sure the chosen encoder keeps the configured bitrate and keyframe interval. YouTube explicitly advises testing before going live.

A continuous channel depends on more than a successful first start. The playlist software and encoder must keep running; source files must remain readable; and the host computer, power, and network must be adequate for the job. For a dependable unattended setup, plan to monitor stream health and test the playlist’s recovery after a restart. If the stream matters enough that an interruption is unacceptable, evaluate a watchdog or backup encoder and verify how the chosen software handles playlist recovery and YouTube’s broadcast lifecycle. No setup can be assumed to run forever without interruption.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That makes archive handling part of a continuous-stream plan: decide how you will manage recordings and whether your operating approach should deliberately create separate broadcast sessions rather than assume a single archive will contain an indefinite run. YouTube’s encoder guide describes the archive behavior, while its broadcast and stream documentation describes the API model for a continuing feed.
Rights and privacy checks before going public
Having a video in Drive does not establish permission to rebroadcast it. Confirm that you have the rights to stream every video, music track, image, and study resource publicly. Also check whether any files contain private or personal information that was only intended for Drive users. Drive download permissions govern access to files; they do not decide your copyright or licensing rights.

The do-it-yourself Drive route gives you control over file retrieval and playlist behavior, but you must select and validate each component for your operating system and unattended-runtime needs. Check these points before relying on it:

- Playlist: verify folder monitoring, ordering, looping, and behavior when a file is missing or corrupt.
- Encoding: confirm format support, bitrate control, hardware or CPU demands, and reliable unattended operation.
- Continuity: plan for local file availability, power and network failures, process restarts, monitoring, and YouTube’s stream lifecycle.
- Archives: choose how to handle recordings when a continuous broadcast reaches YouTube’s automatic-archive threshold.
