Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo mark a moment in a Streamlabs Desktop recording, assign a Marker hotkey and press it while recording. Streamlabs says the app adds a titled timestamp and saves a marker CSV beside the video when recording ends. These markers flag moments in a recording; they do not save or organize scenes.
How to add a marker to a recording
- Open Settings: Click the gear icon in the lower-left menu of Streamlabs Desktop.
- Open Hotkeys: Select Hotkeys in Settings.
- Find the Marker controls: Scroll to the bottom of the Hotkeys section.
- Assign a Marker hotkey: Choose one of the four Marker hotkey options and set its key combination. You can configure more than one option with distinct labels.
- Mark moments as you record: Start recording, then press the assigned combination when you reach a moment you want to flag. Streamlabs says a small notification confirms a marker was placed.
- Locate the marker file: When recording is finished, open the folder where the video was saved. The documented workflow places a CSV marker file beside the video.
Streamlabs’ Bookmarking article documents this path and was updated March 4, 2025. Interface labels or availability may vary in later app builds; this workflow has not been independently checked against a specific build. Streamlabs: Bookmarking

Choose labels that help you edit later
A marker is a timestamp with a custom title, not an automatic cut or clip. Use labels that tell an editor what to look for—for example, “Create Clip” or “Cut.” Those labels are editorial notes; Streamlabs does not make the corresponding edit just because you used that title.

Test the marker and CSV before an important recording
- Make a short test recording and press the Marker hotkey once or twice.
- Check for the on-screen confirmation when you press it.
- Stop the recording and inspect the save folder for the CSV alongside the video.
- Check that your labels make sense to the person who will edit the footage.
Streamlabs documents the confirmation and CSV output; the steps above are a practical way to verify them in your own setup before relying on markers. A Stream Deck or other control surface is optional: the hotkey works without buying an extra console or software.
Markers, scenes, Instant Replay, and Highlighter are different
Recording markers
Markers add labeled timestamps to a recording for later review or editing. They do not switch scenes or save scene layouts.

Instant Replay uses a replay buffer to capture and play back a recent segment, rather than merely adding a timestamp to the recording. Its buffer duration is configurable; Streamlabs gives 30 seconds as an example, not a requirement, and notes that a longer buffer needs more memory. A Stream Deck can trigger the configured replay hotkey, but is not necessary. Streamlabs: Instant Replay
