To block someone on Venmo, open their profile, tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, and choose Block. Venmo says to log out and back in again for the block to take effect. You can unblock the person later from Settings → Privacy.
Block someone from their Venmo profile
- Open the Venmo app and go to the person’s profile.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Block.
- Log out of Venmo and back in again, as Venmo instructs, for the other user to be blocked.
Menu labels can vary if the app changes; follow the controls shown in your installed version. Venmo’s help page does not say whether the other person receives a notification, so don’t assume either way.

What blocking changes
Blocking limits interactions between the two accounts. Venmo says blocked users cannot send payments to or request money from each other, find each other in search, interact with each other’s profiles, or view or comment on each other’s future payments.
This describes future activity; Venmo does not say that blocking hides past payments or reverses a payment already made.

How to unblock someone
Open Settings → Privacy in Venmo and unblock the user there. Venmo’s instructions identify this location but do not provide a more detailed path to the blocked-user list.
Blocking, payment privacy, and unfriending are different
- Block: Limits interactions with a specific account, including payments and requests between you.
- Payment privacy: Venmo offers Public, Friends, and Private settings that control who can see payment activity. Find these controls in the app’s privacy settings.
- Unfriend: Removes someone from your Friends list without being the same action as blocking. Open their profile, tap Friends, then tap Unfriend.
Venmo describes these as separate controls: changing payment visibility does not, by itself, block a particular person.

Shared groups and Teen Accounts
Shared groups
Venmo says people who have blocked each other cannot join the same group. If you block someone who is already in a group with you, Venmo may prompt you to leave that group.
Teen Accounts
A parent or guardian can block a user from a Teen Account by selecting the teen account, opening the other user’s profile, tapping the three-dot menu, and choosing Block User. Venmo says the blocked user cannot send payments to or request payments from the teen account and will not appear in its Venmo network. See Venmo’s Teen Account safety guidance.
