To become an admin on a Soulmask server, set an admin password in the server’s launch options or hosted control panel, restart the server, join it, open the console with ~, and enter gm key followed by that password. Then confirm admin status in the GM panel. The server password players use to join is separate. These steps come from community server guides; console behavior and commands may change with game updates.

Before you start: you need the server’s admin password
Admin access is controlled by a password configured for the server. You need access to the server launch configuration or its hosting control panel to set or retrieve that password. If you are just a player and do not control either, ask the server owner or administrator for help; the normal join password does not grant GM access.

Some hosted setups may have the field blank initially, so check it rather than assuming a password is already configured. The exact panel layout depends on the host. The filename ServerSetting.ini is not confirmed by the available instructions; do not assume that is the correct file to edit. Use the labeled settings area provided by your host, or verify the file name with its documentation.

Keep the two passwords distinct. The server password is for joining the server; the admin password is for GM commands. Setting or changing one does not mean the other has changed.
Become an admin in Soulmask
- Configure the admin password. Use the launch parameter or the control-panel field described above. If the password contains spaces, follow the syntax accepted by your launch configuration; the example uses quotation marks.
- Restart the server. The server needs to start with the new setting before you try to authenticate. On a managed server, use the control panel’s restart action; on a self-hosted server, restart the server process using your usual method.
- Join the server. Connect with the ordinary server join process. Enter the server password if one is required; it is not the admin password unless the owner intentionally set both to the same value.
- Open the in-game console. Press the tilde key,
~. The key that produces this character can vary by keyboard layout. Some community instructions also report that the numpad minus key opens the console. - Enter the GM command. Type
gm keyfollowed by the configured admin password, then submit it. For example, if the password wereexample123, the command would begm key example123. Do not include the square brackets shown in instructional placeholders. - Confirm admin access in the GM panel. The command opens the GM panel, but opening the panel alone is not the same as becoming an administrator. Enter the admin password again inside the panel and confirm the action.
If the console or password step fails
The tilde key does nothing
Check your keyboard layout first. The physical key left of 1 may not type ~ under every layout. One community report for a German keyboard says switching the Windows input layout to QWERTY made that key open the console; that is a reported workaround, not a universal requirement. You can also try the numpad minus key, which community guides identify as an alternative.

The command is rejected or the GM panel does not appear
- Confirm that you used the admin password, not the server join password.
- Check that the launch parameter or control-panel field is populated with the intended password, then restart the server and try again.
- Enter the command as
gm keyfollowed by the password. Community instructions report command names as case-sensitive, so copy the spelling and capitalization exactly. - If the panel opens but you are not an admin, complete the separate password confirmation inside the panel.
The older console instructions do not match your game
A 2024 Steam community discussion describes a different in-game admin-panel approach involving enabling console execution. That may apply to an older build or a particular client setup, so it should not replace the password-and-GM-panel steps above without checking that it matches your current server and game version. No official developer documentation was identified in the available source set, so treat community instructions as practical guidance rather than a guarantee that every interface label or command remains unchanged.
Does admin access persist after you reconnect?
Community accounts conflict on persistence. One says admin status is not retained between sessions and that gm key must be run again after each login; another says rights remain after closing the panel. Test the behavior on your server: close the panel, reconnect, and check whether privileged commands still work. If they do not, authenticate again with gm key and complete the panel confirmation.

Useful commands in the GM panel
The following commands are reported by community guides. Their availability may vary with the game build, and the reported command names are case-sensitive. For commands with a value or coordinates, substitute the appropriate value rather than typing the explanatory brackets.

The ban and unban instructions use the player’s SteamID. The available instructions do not document a kick command, so do not infer one from the ban syntax. Many GM commands use Pinyin keywords; preserve the exact spelling and capitalization shown rather than translating or correcting a command name.

What to do if you only play on someone else’s server
You cannot set server launch arguments or control-panel settings unless you have access to them. Ask the owner to configure an admin password and authorize your account. If the owner has already provided the password, follow the in-game console and GM panel steps; if it fails, the owner should verify the configured value and restart the server. Admin status is permission to use server-management functions, not merely the ability to open the panel.
