To batch screenshot Indian government website pages, prepare a reviewed list of public URLs, automate one browser capture per URL, and save a manifest alongside the images. The manifest should record the requested and final URLs, capture time and time zone, filename, browser and version, viewport, and capture scope. That makes the files easier to interpret later; a screenshot documents a rendered appearance, not every underlying page detail or proof of compliance or legal sufficiency.
Choose what each record needs to show
Decide before capture whether you need the initially visible viewport or the full scrollable page. Use the same viewport and browser settings across the batch when you want images to be comparable.

- Viewport capture: records what fits in the browser viewport. It is useful when the visible state, such as a notice or page header, is the subject.
- Full-page capture: records the full scrollable page. In Playwright, set
fullPage: true; this is not the same as capturing only what is currently visible. Long or dynamic pages still need review to ensure the expected content appears. - Element capture: targets a selected page element rather than the whole page. Use this only when that specific portion is the intended record.
Playwright also documents screenshot output path, PNG/JPEG/WebP type, and scale options. CSS-pixel scale can produce a smaller image; device-pixel scale captures at higher density. Choose according to the record’s purpose and note the choice in your manifest. See the Playwright Page API for the documented screenshot options.

Review the public URLs before running the batch. A prepared list makes the scope explicit and helps you identify missing or unexpected pages afterward. This is a reproducibility practice, not a stated government requirement.

For a simple Node.js Playwright workflow, install Playwright and its browser in your project using the official setup instructions, then save this as batch.js. The example takes one URL per line from urls.txt, writes PNGs to screenshots/, and creates a CSV manifest. It records failures instead of silently omitting them.

});The script uses a 60-second navigation timeout and waits for the page load event; neither guarantees that every site’s late-loading content or dynamic components have finished changing. For pages that need a different readiness condition, adjust the navigation/wait logic deliberately and document it. Playwright’s documented basic flow is to launch a browser, navigate a page, write a screenshot to a path, and close the browser.

Run the batch and check the output
- Put one reviewed public URL on each line of
urls.txt. - Run
node batch.jsfrom the project directory. - Check that
manifest.csvcontains one row for every requested URL, including failed captures. - Open the images and verify that they show the intended page rather than a login, error, redirect destination, or incomplete long-page capture.
The manifest records the final URL after redirects as observed by the browser. The timestamp in this example is UTC in ISO format. It is captured immediately before navigation, so it denotes the start of that page’s capture attempt, not a guaranteed instant at which every pixel was rendered. Browser version, viewport, and full-page scope are also recorded to make the batch easier to understand later.
Keep the record interpretable
Keep manifest.csv next to the image folder. At minimum, retain the requested URL, final URL, capture timestamp with timezone, output filename, viewport dimensions, browser and version, and whether the capture was full-page or viewport-only. Preserve errors in the same record rather than dropping those URLs without explanation.

A screenshot represents the rendered state produced during that capture. Pages can change while loading or after capture, and an image does not preserve all page data, server behavior, or the conditions under which the page was served. Treat the manifest as practical context, not as an official evidence format.

If those issues matter, check the applicable primary guidance for your specific use and jurisdiction; do not infer compliance or evidentiary status from a screenshot alone.
