For a Ubisoft Connect PC game, make an offline copy of its local save folder before changing settings, restoring files or resolving a local-versus-cloud prompt. First check Ubisoft’s decommissioning notice for your exact game and platform: there is no single shutdown date or save impact that applies to every Ubisoft game. A service closure is not, by itself, a universal save-export deadline.
The key is to keep three things distinct: a local save folder you copy yourself, Ubisoft Connect cloud synchronization for supported PC games, and platform-specific console saves. They are not interchangeable. The steps below explain what you can preserve on PC, how to avoid overwriting the progress you want, and where to check when your game does not match the standard PC setup.

Check what is ending for your game and platform
Find the exact game and platform in Ubisoft’s current decommissioning notice, then check the game’s support information for details. Closures are title- and platform-specific. Ubisoft’s legacy notice says that most listed closures affect online multiplayer, in-game news, player statistics, and retired Units and Challenges, while offline features remain available. That general statement does not establish that every game’s cloud synchronization or cross-progression will continue.

For example, Ubisoft’s legacy notice included a PC service date of 30 June 2026 for affected entries. That date is past as of October 2026; it is not evidence that every Ubisoft service—or any particular game’s save function—ended then. Check the current entry for your game before acting.

Ubisoft’s 27 October 2023 announcement about certain service closures likewise said that covered games would remain playable after specified online functions ended. Apply that assurance only to the games and platforms in that announcement. It does not promise uninterrupted cloud saving or establish how another title handles saves. Ubisoft’s wording was: “Rest assured that the decommissioning of online services will only affect certain online functionalities; if you purchased these games, you will still be able to play them.”
Before you back up or troubleshoot, answer these questions:
- Which exact game? A franchise name alone may not be enough if the notice lists separate editions or entries.
- Which platform? A PC entry does not automatically describe a console version of the same game.
- Which storefront or launcher do you use? The standard save-folder steps in this guide apply to Ubisoft Connect PC and should not be assumed to describe another installation.
- Which feature is ending? A change to multiplayer or player statistics is different from a change to saving. Read the entry and the game-specific support page rather than inferring one from the other.
This check helps set expectations. A service notice is not necessarily a countdown to a save-export deadline, but it also is not proof that cloud synchronization will remain available. If you can access the PC save folder, keeping a separate copy now gives you a file snapshot without requiring you to guess what a future service change will mean.

What a backup protects—and what it does not
For Ubisoft Connect PC games, a copied local save folder gives you a separate file copy to retain. Ubisoft Help documents restoring an earlier PC save when you have a backup copy, including a backup made with Windows File History. Ubisoft Help describes the capability this way: “On PC, you can restore an earlier version of a saved game file if you have a backup copy.” A copied folder is different from cloud synchronization: it is a copy you control, rather than a setting that syncs a supported game’s save between local storage and Ubisoft’s cloud.
- Ubisoft Connect cloud synchronization: Available only for supported Ubisoft Connect PC games and enabled by default for those games. It is not a separately retained offline backup.
- A copied local save folder: A practical way to preserve the PC save files present in that folder at the time you copy it. Keep the original intact and store the copy somewhere separate.
- Windows File History: Ubisoft’s restore instructions recognize File History backups as a possible source for restoring an earlier save. This depends on having a suitable backup available.
These options are not interchangeable, and the cited PC instructions do not establish one export method for every game or platform. In particular, copying the PC folder cannot export a cloud-only or console save. A backup also preserves only the files you actually copy; it does not promise that a save can be imported into another platform, that cross-progression will work, or that an online feature tied to Ubisoft’s services will remain available.
Think of the methods this way: cloud synchronization is intended to keep supported local and cloud saves in sync; a folder copy is a snapshot you retain separately; and File History is a Windows backup source that may contain an earlier version. A sync can propagate a change between copies, which is why it should not be treated as the same thing as an independent archive. A folder copy gives you a point-in-time version, but it will not update itself as you continue playing. File History is useful only if it was set up and has the earlier files you need.
Back up a Ubisoft Connect PC save folder
Before you start
Identify the exact game, platform and storefront you use. These steps apply to Ubisoft Connect PC saves in the documented PC location; do not use them as instructions for a console save or assume another storefront stores a save in the same place. If the game-specific help page gives different instructions or the default folder is absent, follow the guidance for that game rather than guessing at a path.

Choose a separate destination before you begin. It can be another location on the PC or an external drive. An external drive is optional, not a Ubisoft requirement; the important distinction is that the backup copy should not be confused with or substituted for the original. If you use a removable drive, make sure the copy operation finishes before disconnecting it.
Copy the save files
- Close the game and Ubisoft Connect completely. Do this before copying so the files are less likely to change while you are making the backup. Do not copy while actively playing or while the launcher is still handling the game.
- Open the default savegames folder:
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchersavegames. Ubisoft documents this as the default Ubisoft Connect PC save location. - Find your account and game folders. Inside
savegames, saves are organized under a long account-ID folder and then a game folder. Copy the relevant game folder intact; do not assume a folder name will be the game’s familiar title. If more than one account-ID folder appears, use the account folder associated with the Ubisoft account you use for the game. - Paste the copied folder in a separate safe location. A folder elsewhere on the PC or an external drive can hold the copy. Removable storage is optional, not a requirement or a method for exporting a cloud-only or console save.
- Verify the copy before changing anything else. Confirm that the copied folder contains files, leave the original folder in place, and do not replace or delete either copy during troubleshooting unless you have decided which version you need.
Keep the copied folder identifiable—for example, note the game and date in the surrounding folder name. That helps distinguish this snapshot from a later one without changing the contents Ubisoft expects when restoring the save. If you make another backup after further play, keep the snapshots separate until you know which one contains the progress you want.
Do not mistake a folder’s presence for proof that it contains a complete or current save. The practical check available here is to confirm the copied folder contains files and that you copied the relevant game folder from the account folder you use. Ubisoft’s instructions do not establish that every game stores all save-related information in an identical set of files, so consult the game-specific support page if you are uncertain which folder applies.
If the default folder is missing
The default path is not proof that every installation or game uses that exact location. Ubisoft notes that folder contents can vary by game and installation. Check the specific game’s support page for save-location guidance. Do not create an empty folder at the default path and assume that it contains a usable backup.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Also avoid copying a similarly named folder just because it appears to belong to the game. If you cannot identify the account-ID folder or the relevant game folder, pause before moving or replacing files. A mistaken copy can give a false sense of security, while a mistaken replacement can discard the version you meant to preserve.
Understand and check cloud synchronization
Ubisoft Connect cloud synchronization is available only for supported Ubisoft Connect PC games. For those games Ubisoft says it is enabled by default. To find the setting, open Ubisoft Connect PC, select your profile, open Settings, then choose General. The synchronization option is there.
Turning synchronization off does not create a backup or copy save files to another location. If you switch it off while troubleshooting, retain a separate copy of the local folder first. The available setting also does not tell you whether a particular game or platform will retain cloud saves after a service change; verify that game’s entry and support information.

Cloud synchronization and a manual copy solve different problems. Synchronization can make a supported game’s local and cloud data correspond, but it is not a second offline copy you have independently stored. A manually copied folder remains a snapshot at the moment you copied it; it does not reflect subsequent progress unless you make another copy. Neither fact tells you whether a specific title’s cloud service is affected by a listed closure.
If you are making a backup because a service date is approaching or has passed, do not assume switching synchronization off will preserve a cloud-only version. The documented PC procedure concerns files available in the local save folder, and the service notice must be checked for the title and platform. If you cannot find a local save or do not know which copy is current, stop before changing synchronization or replacing files and consult the game’s support instructions.
Resolve a local-versus-cloud save prompt carefully
If Ubisoft Connect reports a conflict between local and cloud saves, do not select an option automatically. The copies can differ, and the cloud copy is not necessarily the newer or safer one. Compare which version contains the progress you want and, where possible, whether the local version opens correctly. Make a separate copy of the current local folder before resolving the prompt.
For example, a local save may contain progress from a recent session while the cloud version may be from an earlier point, or the local files may be the version Ubisoft’s documented recovery flow uses to replace a corrupted cloud copy. Do not decide based on the labels “local” and “cloud” alone. The relevant question is which version has the latest wanted progress and is usable for your game.
Ubisoft’s documented corrupted-cloud-save recovery procedure is specific: disable synchronization, keep or make the intended local save, exit, re-enable synchronization, and select the local save when prompted to replace the corrupted cloud copy. Choosing local in that procedure overwrites the corrupted cloud version. Use that choice only if the local version is the one you intend to keep; do not treat it as a general rule that local is always preferable.
Recommended Free Tools
Before following any overwrite choice, make sure you have preserved the available local folder separately. If the local and cloud options are both potentially valuable, do not click through simply to clear the prompt. Ubisoft’s documented procedure is for a corrupted cloud save, not a guarantee that selecting local is the right resolution for every conflict. Keep in mind that choosing one version can replace the other in that recovery flow.
After you make a choice, confirm that the game opens with the intended progress before deleting or reorganizing the backup. If the result is not what you expected, the copy you retained is more useful than a folder that was overwritten during troubleshooting. For a restore or conflict that does not match Ubisoft’s described procedure, use the specific game’s support guidance rather than applying the corrupted-cloud steps by analogy.

Restore an earlier PC save carefully
Ubisoft Help says an earlier PC save can be restored if you have a backup copy, and its restore instructions recognize Windows File History as a backup source. That makes a previous folder copy or a suitable File History version a possible starting point when the current save is damaged or you need an earlier state. It does not mean every installation has a backup available, nor does it mean every title has identical restore steps.
Before a restore, preserve the current local folder as well as the backup you plan to use. The current version may contain progress that is not in the older copy. Keep both versions separate and clearly labeled, then consult the specific game’s Ubisoft Help instructions for the restore process. Do not overwrite the only copy of the current save while trying to recover an earlier one.
Restoring an earlier save is a replacement decision, not merely a way to inspect an archive. Decide which state you want before substituting files, and avoid treating a File History entry or a folder copy as automatically newer. If the desired restore is not clear, or the folder does not match the game-specific guidance, pause and seek the title’s support instructions.
Console saves and games outside the default PC path
Do not copy the Ubisoft Connect PC savegames folder to back up a console save. The available Ubisoft guidance does not establish one universal console export process or one save method shared by every title and platform. Check the game’s specific support information and the relevant platform’s instructions for the save you actually use.
The same caution applies to a PC game whose save is not under the documented Ubisoft Connect path. A folder in that location may be absent, incomplete or unrelated to the save you need. Confirm the correct location for that game before restoring or moving files.
Keep the platform distinction in mind when reading a shutdown notice. A service entry for PC does not prove what happens to a console version, and a notice about online features does not by itself describe a console’s system-level backup or export options. The steps here are deliberately limited to Ubisoft Connect PC save files; they are not a universal solution for cloud-only saves, console saves, cross-progression or another platform’s account storage.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming one shutdown date covers every game: Check the notice entry for the exact title and platform; a date listed for one entry is not a universal Ubisoft deadline.
- Treating continued offline play as a cloud-save guarantee: Ubisoft’s notice about offline features does not establish continued cloud synchronization for every title.
- Confusing sync with backup: Synchronization is a service for supported PC games, while a copied folder or File History backup is a retained file copy.
- Replacing files before preserving a copy: Keep the current local folder before attempting a restore or choosing a version in a conflict prompt.
- Using the PC path for console saves: The documented folder is for Ubisoft Connect PC and is not a universal console export route.
- Assuming the default path fits every installation: Check the title’s support information when the folder is missing or its contents do not match the instructions.
- Assuming the cloud copy is always newer: Compare the progress and usability of the versions; Ubisoft’s recovery guidance does not say cloud is always safest.
- Deleting the backup as soon as a copy completes: Retain it until you have confirmed you copied the intended files and have no further need for the earlier version.

Will my Ubisoft save be deleted when online services end?
There is no single answer for every Ubisoft game and platform. Check the current decommissioning entry for your exact title and platform and review its support information. Ubisoft’s legacy notice says most listed closures affect certain online features while offline features remain available, but that does not guarantee continued cloud synchronization for every game.
Does Ubisoft Connect cloud synchronization count as a backup?
Not in the same sense as a separate copy you retain. Ubisoft Connect cloud synchronization is available only for supported PC games and is enabled by default for those games. A copied local folder or a suitable Windows File History backup gives you a separate restore source; turning synchronization off does not create one.
Where are Ubisoft Connect PC save files stored?
Ubisoft documents the default location as C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchersavegames. Inside it, saves are organized under a long account-ID folder and a game folder. Folder contents can vary by game and installation, so consult the game’s support page if the default path is absent or unclear.
Should I choose the local or cloud save in a conflict prompt?
Do not choose automatically. First preserve the current local folder, then compare which version contains the latest progress you want and whether it opens correctly. In Ubisoft’s documented corrupted-cloud-save procedure, selecting local replaces the corrupted cloud copy. That is not a rule that local is always newer or preferable.
Can I use these PC steps to back up a console save?
No. The documented savegames path is for Ubisoft Connect PC, and Ubisoft’s guidance does not establish one universal console export process. Check the specific game’s support information and the relevant platform’s instructions.
Can I restore an earlier Ubisoft PC save?
Ubisoft Help says an earlier PC save can be restored when you have a backup copy and recognizes Windows File History as a possible backup source. Preserve the current folder before restoring, then follow the instructions for your specific game so you do not overwrite the only copy of the progress you want.
The Bottom Line
Check Ubisoft’s current notice for your exact title and platform, because shutdown dates and affected features vary. For a Ubisoft Connect PC game, close the launcher and game, copy the relevant folder from the documented savegames path to a separate location, and verify the copy before restoring or resolving any prompt. Cloud synchronization is limited to supported PC games and is not the same as an offline backup. Preserve your local copy before choosing between local and cloud saves, and use game-specific guidance for console saves or a missing PC folder.
