The backup method for NBA 2K25 depends on where you play: PlayStation uses PlayStation Plus cloud storage, Xbox syncs saves automatically while connected to Xbox Network, and PC cloud saves depend on Steam or Epic Games Launcher settings. Steam players can also keep a separate copy of their Windows save files. Backups are tied to the platform account and do not transfer MyCAREER progress between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Before you back up: know what the save is tied to
NBA 2K saves are associated with the platform account, not a 2K, NBA 2K, or SHiFT account, according to 2K’s cloud-save guide. You generally need an internet connection for a backup to sync. Make sure you are using the same PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic account that owns the save.

NBA 2K25 supports cross-platform multiplayer, but not cross-platform progression. A PlayStation backup cannot restore a MyCAREER save on Xbox or PC. 2K says MyTEAM progression and the VC wallet are shared only within a console family—PS4 and PS5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S—not across platform families. See the NBA 2K25 crossplay and cross-gen FAQ for those distinctions.

Back up NBA 2K25 on PlayStation
PlayStation cloud saves require PlayStation Plus. You can allow automatic syncing or upload a save manually. Before relying on a cloud copy, check its sync status so you know the latest local progress has uploaded. PlayStation’s support page also lists cloud capacity of 100 GB for PS5 saved data and 100 GB for PS4 saved data, with up to 1,000 PS4 saved-data files; these are platform limits, not NBA 2K25 file sizes.

Back up NBA 2K25 on Xbox
On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, 2K says saves sync to the cloud automatically while the console is connected to Xbox Network. 2K does not document a manual upload control for Xbox saves, so there is no manual backup step to run. If the console is offline, cloud syncing cannot complete until it reconnects.
Open the saved-data menu
- Open My games & apps and highlight NBA 2K25.
- Press the controller’s Menu button.
- Choose Manage game & add-ons > Saved data.
2K says the cloud save is applied after a reinstall finishes. Its console troubleshooting guide and cloud-save guide provide additional recovery details.

PC cloud saving is controlled by the game launcher. Steam players can add a separate manual copy of the Windows save folder; the cited sources do not establish a verified NBA 2K25 Epic local-save path.
Steam: enable cloud sync
- In Steam, open Settings > Cloud and turn on Enable Steam Cloud for applications that support it.
- Open NBA 2K25 in your Library, choose Properties > General, and check the game’s Cloud Synchronization setting.
- Wait for sync to finish before switching computers or relying on the remote copy. Steam warns that offline play can leave saves unsynced and may create a conflict when the device reconnects.
See the Steam Cloud FAQ and 2K’s cloud-save guide.

Steam: keep a separate manual copy
2K identifies the Windows Steam remote folder as:
C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata(your account ID)(game ID*)remote
The folder may contain files named MyCAREER0000 and files for other save slots. To make a separate copy:
- Close NBA 2K25 and Steam so the save files are not being written or synced.
- Open the remote folder above. Replace
(your account ID)with your Steam account’s userdata folder and(game ID*)with the game’s folder. - Copy the relevant NBA 2K25 files, including the needed MyCAREER slot files, without deleting or moving the originals.
- Store the copied files separately, such as on another drive.
To restore a manual copy, put the backed-up files in the remote folder and fully restart NBA 2K25 and Steam. 2K documents the folder and restoration approach in its MyPLAYER recovery guidance.
Epic Games Launcher: enable cloud saves
- Open Epic Games Launcher Settings.
- Turn on Enable Cloud Saves.
- If you play on more than one computer, resolve any cloud-save conflict prompt before continuing. Epic warns that disabling and re-enabling Cloud Saves across machines can result in conflicts.
See Epic’s Cloud Saves instructions and 2K’s guide. Do not use the Steam folder path for an Epic installation.
What to check before restoring a save
- Confirm the account and platform. The backup must belong to the same platform account as the save you want to restore.
- Check sync status or saved data first. A backup that did not finish uploading cannot restore the latest progress.
- Compare dates when available. A cloud copy may be older than the local save; choosing it could replace newer progress.
- Resolve PC sync conflicts deliberately. If Steam or Epic presents competing versions, determine which copy has the latest progress before selecting one.
If a MyPLAYER is missing
If the MyPLAYER is missing and there is no usable backup, contact 2K Support and include the account and player-build details requested in its recovery guidance. 2K warns that restoration may not be possible; lost or spent VC cannot be refunded.
