Your best approach is to check that event’s current schedule, map, entry instructions, and queue updates; choose a few priorities; and have alternatives ready if a popular activity fills up.
Before you go, check the convention’s current plans
Start with the event’s official website or app rather than advice from another convention or an older edition. Check the schedule, floor map, registration instructions, venue hours, and any updates about entry or queues. Organizers may set different hours for registration and the show itself, and their navigation tools differ.

For example, Blizzard’s BlizzCon 2026 attendee guide recommends reviewing the schedule and downloading the floor map for offline use. Follow the instructions for the specific edition you plan to attend; logistics can change from year to year.

If the organizer provides live line information, use it to decide where to go and when. The PAX FAQ recommends following panel lines through the PAX Mobile App. That is a PAX-specific option, not evidence that every convention or every demo offers live wait estimates.

If you rely on an app or digital map, consider bringing a portable power bank so your phone remains usable through the day. This is a practical precaution, not an event requirement.
Pick must-sees and decide what you’ll do if a line is full
List the panels, demos, or experiences that matter most to you, then identify a backup for each. Compare an activity’s importance to you with any current line update or reservation option, its access rules, and what you could do instead. A line update can help you plan, but it cannot guarantee access.

Capacity and entry rules vary. PAX describes panels as first-come, first-served, while Blizzard says seating for the BlizzCon opening ceremony fills on that basis. If a must-see event is capacity-limited, decide in advance how long you are willing to wait and what alternative you will choose if entry is no longer available.

Follow the event’s actual entry instructions
Don’t assume that arriving at opening is always the best strategy. Check when registration, security, and attendee staging areas open, and follow the organizer’s instructions for lining up. For instance, the BlizzCon 2026 guide listed 6 a.m. PDT as the opening time for its staging areas and security checkpoints for attendees planning to line up early. That was specific to that edition; it is not a general recommendation or a forecast of shorter waits elsewhere.
Ask about accessibility and capacity before the event
If you need an accommodation, contact the convention directly before attending and confirm its current process. Do not count on an accommodation to bypass a capped line or guarantee entry. PAX says medical badges provide access to panels, the expo hall, and other events only while the associated line has not already been capped; its guidance also advises medical-pass holders going to panels to arrive early.

Check bag rules before packing
Review the venue’s current bag policy and plan how you will carry what you need. PAX prohibits rolling bags, suitcases, and wagons in its expo hall, explaining that crowd density could impede mass egress. Other conventions may have different restrictions, so check your own event’s rules instead of assuming this policy applies everywhere.
