To ask Google to revisit a WordPress page, open Google Search Console, inspect its exact URL, then choose the request-indexing action if the page is ready to be crawled. For many URLs, submit an accurate sitemap instead. Neither method guarantees that Google will crawl a page immediately or include it in Search results.
Choose the right way to ask Google to recrawl
| Method | Best for | What it does | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| URL Inspection request | A few specific pages | Lets you inspect a URL and request that Google crawl it. | Submitting the same URL repeatedly does not make Google crawl it faster; requests are subject to a quota. |
| Sitemap submission | Many URLs, a site launch, or a site move | Helps Google discover URLs listed in the sitemap. | It does not force Google to crawl every listed URL immediately. |
Google says, “You can’t request indexing for URLs that you don’t manage.” You need owner or full-user access to the relevant Search Console property to submit an individual indexing request. See Google’s guidance on asking Google to recrawl URLs.

Request a recrawl for one WordPress page
- Confirm the page is ready. Make sure it is published at the intended URL and can be reached by Googlebot.
- Open the correct property in Google Search Console. Use the property that covers the page’s URL, and confirm you have owner or full-user permission.
- Inspect the exact URL. Enter the full page URL in URL Inspection. Review the index status Google reports. If you are diagnosing a problem, use the live URL test to check what Google can access now.
- Submit the request if appropriate. Use the request-indexing action for the inspected page. A request is not a way to bypass access or indexing problems.
- Check again later. Google’s typical guidance is that recrawling may take a few days to a few weeks; that is an estimate, not a deadline or service-level guarantee. Google also warns that requesting a crawl does not guarantee inclusion in Search, immediately or ever.
Do not repeatedly submit the same URL. Individual requests have a quota, and repeating a request will not accelerate crawling.

Find your WordPress sitemap first
WordPress commonly publishes a sitemap already, and Google says content-management systems such as WordPress likely make one available. Check your site before installing a plugin or changing settings. Submit the sitemap URL you actually find; do not assume a particular path or add-on.

Check the sitemap contents
- Include the preferred canonical URLs you want considered for Search.
- Use fully qualified, absolute URLs.
- Leave out pages you do not want in Search.
- For an XML sitemap, Google documents a maximum of 50 MB uncompressed or 50,000 URLs per file. If your sitemap exceeds either limit, split it into multiple sitemap files and use a sitemap index as needed.
Submit it in Search Console
In Google Search Console, open the property for your site and submit the sitemap using the Sitemaps report. A sitemap helps Google discover URLs; it does not compel immediate crawling or indexing. Keep it accurate, and do not repeatedly submit an unchanged sitemap. Google’s sitemap overview explains the format and submission process.

If a WordPress page is still missing or showing an older version, use URL Inspection to see what Google currently knows and test the live URL. Then work through the relevant checks:
- Crawling is blocked: Check that
robots.txtdoes not prevent Googlebot from reaching the page. Google needs to crawl a page to see its page-level indexing directives. - The sitemap is incomplete or inaccurate: Verify the preferred URL is listed and that the sitemap does not point to a different version of the page.
- Google cannot discover the URL: Make sure the page is reachable through standard crawlable links as well as being listed in the sitemap.
- The site is unavailable or struggling to serve requests: Check server availability and logs for Googlebot crawl problems. Google identifies serving capacity and other crawl issues as possible reasons pages may not be crawled in a reasonable time.
- The page was crawled but is not appearing: Crawling and indexing are separate. A crawl request cannot guarantee that Google will index or show a page; Google notes that content value or user demand can affect whether crawled pages appear.
