Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11For offline evidence, save the web resources—not just a picture of the page. Capture the HTML together with its images, stylesheets, documents, and other referenced files in a web-archive format such as WARC; add a PDF or screenshot as a convenient view, and document what you captured and when. Then replay the archive, check for gaps, and keep separate copies. A PDF alone is not a complete website archive.
What a useful offline website archive contains
A saved page may depend on files beyond its HTML: images, stylesheets, scripts, linked documents, or resources served from other domains. If those files are missing, the page may not replay as it appeared online. A preservation-oriented web-archive format such as WARC can contain resources in different formats, including binary images and audiovisual files embedded or linked in HTML. The Library of Congress identifies WARC as its preferred web-archive format (Library of Congress: WARC, Web ARChive file format).

Think of the archive as the preservation copy and a PDF or screenshot as a readable derivative. A PDF is useful for quickly inspecting a rendered page, but it does not by itself preserve the site’s linked resources and relationships. NARA notes that static screenshots lack hypertext functionality in its federal transfer guidance (NARA: Appendix A, Tables of File Formats).
Choose and document the scope before capturing
Decide which pages and paths matter. A single URL is not necessarily a whole website: pages may depend on other domains, and the boundary of a site can be difficult to define. Record the exact live URL or URLs, the date and time in UTC, and the reason for capture. If you only need a small amount of content, the Library of Congress describes a browser’s Save As function as an option; check whether it saves linked files as well as the page, and retain descriptive metadata such as the site name and creation date (Library of Congress: Websites, Blogs, Social Media – Personal Archiving).

Capture the web resources, not only the rendered view
Use a capture method that saves HTML and its referenced resources together in a web-archive package such as WARC. The National Archives and Records Administration lists WARC 1.0, WARC 1.1, and WACZ among preferred formats for permanent federal web records (NARA format guidance). Those format choices do not guarantee that every resource will be captured: a page can load dynamic data, rely on a login, or request content that the capture process cannot access.
For a small page, browser Save As may be sufficient if it exports the page and its linked files; inspect the result rather than assuming it is complete. For a larger site or a preservation-focused workflow, select a capture tool that creates a replayable web archive and records capture context. The capture is what the process obtained, not proof that every page, resource, or interaction was included.

Add a PDF or screenshot as a derivative view
Print the page to PDF or save a screenshot when a fixed, quickly readable representation will help someone review the capture. Keep it alongside the web archive, not instead of it. Label the file as a derivative view and include its creation time and source URL in the accompanying notes. A PDF or screenshot can show what rendered, while the web archive is intended to retain the captured resources and their relationships.

Record provenance and verify the archive
Keep a short manifest or README with the package. There is no single universal evidence protocol established by the cited guidance, but recording source, context, structure, and capture circumstances makes the files more intelligible later. NARA describes web-record integrity as being “complete and unaltered” and emphasizes content, context, and structure (NARA Guidance on Managing Web Records, last reviewed June 26, 2017).

- BROAD COMPATIBILITY – Works with both Windows and Mac devices, be it laptop or computer
- Create a manifest listing target URLs, capture date and time with time zone, scope, tool and version if known, and the files included.
- Open the archive locally in a compatible replay tool.
- Test the important pages and internal links; check whether images, documents, and other expected resources appear.
- Record missing images, blocked content, login-only pages, capture errors, or other gaps in the manifest.
- Keep the PDF or screenshot derivative next to the archive and identify its source URL and creation time.
Replay is a verification step, not a guarantee of completeness. The Library of Congress warns that a site cannot be harvested instantaneously and completely; a dynamic site may change during capture, so the resulting combination of resources may never have existed at precisely one moment. NARA also notes that reconstruction exactness depends on whether referenced static and dynamic files were tracked (Library of Congress: Quality and Functionality Factors for Archived Web Sites and Pages).
Keep the archive readable and backed up
Use descriptive filenames and a clear directory structure. Keep at least two copies in different locations so one lost or damaged storage device does not take every copy with it. Portable hard drives are one possible storage medium; choose capacity based on the archive size, since the cited preservation guidance does not specify a model or capacity. The Library of Congress recommends checking readability at least once a year and refreshing media every five years or when necessary. These are general preservation recommendations, not a guarantee against data loss or a legal certification (Library of Congress personal archiving guidance).

What an archive can—and cannot—establish
A local capture documents the content the capture process obtained. It does not, by format choice alone, prove that nothing was omitted or establish admissibility in every court or jurisdiction. Dynamic pages may change during capture; restricted, login-only, or blocked resources may be absent. Preserve the manifest and note observed gaps so readers can distinguish captured material from assumptions about the live site.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its one-request endpoint returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, which can be useful as a supplementary rendered view; it is not a substitute for a WARC or other resource-preserving archive. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

Example cURL request for a PDF derivative:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -d format=pdf -o page.pdf
ScreenshotNeo removes known cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers indicate the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Keep the rendered output with your archive as a derivative, and document its source URL and capture time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I view a website offline after saving it?
Yes, if the saved package includes the page and its linked resources and you open it with a compatible replay tool. Test key pages and links; a saved HTML file alone may reference files that were not saved.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Does a WARC guarantee a complete capture?
No. WARC can package varied web resources, but dynamic, restricted, or inaccessible content may be missing, and a changing site cannot necessarily be captured as one instantaneous, complete state.
Is a website archive automatically admissible as evidence?
No. A capture records what the process obtained, but choosing a format does not by itself prove completeness or determine admissibility in a particular court or jurisdiction.
