To keep a readable copy of a website’s terms and conditions, open the exact terms page in Chrome on desktop, choose File > Print (or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac), select Save as PDF, review the preview, and save. Then open the PDF to check it. If you also need a shareable reference, submit that same page URL to the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine Save Page Now. Keep the original URL and capture date with both records: neither a browser PDF nor an archive capture by itself establishes when the site originally published the terms or proves they are legally binding.
Choose the record that fits your purpose
A local PDF and a Wayback Machine capture serve different needs. You can create both and keep them together.

Save the terms page as a PDF in Chrome
- Open the exact terms and conditions page. Do not print the homepage unless it is itself the document you need. If the terms refer to separate policies or are split across pages, identify each page you need to retain; printing one page will not automatically include the others.
- Open print preview. In Chrome desktop, select File > Print, or use Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac.
- Choose the PDF destination. In the destination options, choose Save as PDF. Review the page range and layout in the preview before saving.
- Save and inspect the file. Open the PDF and confirm the site name or page heading, all relevant clauses, page breaks, and any other content you need are visible and legible. If a linked policy matters, repeat the process for that page.
- Record provenance alongside it. A print-to-PDF copy may preserve the rendered page, but it should not be treated as a record of the page’s original publication or change date. Keep the original URL and the date and time you captured it in the filename, a note, or a cover sheet. Store any Wayback URL with the PDF if you create one.
Create a shareable Wayback reference
- Copy the URL of the exact terms page, rather than the site homepage.
- Submit it to the Internet Archive’s Save Page Now feature.
- Retain the returned archive URL, then open it and inspect the displayed capture timestamp, page text, and relevant assets.
- Keep the original URL, returned archive URL, and local PDF together. If separate linked policies are important, submit and inspect each one separately.
The Internet Archive says Save Page Now creates a permanent URL for the page entered and captures that page with images and CSS. It does not capture the page’s outlinks or crawl the entire site as part of that submission. Archived pages can also be incomplete: missing links may resolve to a different capture date or even to the live web, rather than reproducing all dependencies from one moment. Inspect the result instead of assuming it is complete.
What a PDF or Wayback capture can—and cannot—show
A PDF is a local copy of what was rendered when you printed it. A Wayback capture provides an archive URL and a displayed capture time for the archived page. These records can help you retain and review a version, but the cited guidance does not establish that either one automatically proves the site owner’s original publication date, authenticates the terms as legally binding, or satisfies legal evidentiary requirements.

The Internet Archive says the Wayback Machine was not expressly designed for legal use and points people seeking legal records to its affidavit process. For a legal proceeding, consult appropriate counsel and review the Archive’s Wayback Machine guidance; do not describe an ordinary saved PDF or capture as authenticated on this basis alone.
When an archive is incomplete or fails
- Save Page Now fails or returns no useful capture: The Archive identifies crawling restrictions and some SSL or security configurations as possible causes. Its guidance also notes password protection, robots.txt, inaccessible pages, and owner requests. If the page is visible to you, save a local PDF and keep its URL and capture time.
- The archived page looks different or is missing content: Dynamic JavaScript that depends on the original host, missing assets, and interactive forms can make faithful archiving difficult. The Archive says simple HTML is generally easiest to archive. Inspect text and relevant assets in the returned capture.
- A linked privacy, cookie, or other policy is absent: Save that URL separately. Save Page Now captures the submitted page, not its outlinks.
- The PDF is cut off, poorly paginated, or missing clauses: Return to Chrome’s print preview, review the page range and layout, save again, and inspect the new PDF. Do not rely on a file you have not opened and checked.
