If you need one file instead, Chrome’s MHTML page capture or the SingleFile project are options. Whichever method you choose, reopen the archive offline and check the parts that matter: none of these methods guarantees a perfect copy of every site.
Save a webpage with images and CSS in Firefox
Firefox’s Web page, complete option is the straightforward choice when a companion folder is acceptable. Mozilla says it saves the page with pictures and creates a directory containing pictures and other files needed to display it. The steps below follow Mozilla’s save-page guidance, last updated August 11, 2023; browser labels may change.

- Open the webpage you want to archive.
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Save Page As.
- In the format or file-type menu, select Web page, complete.
- Choose a filename and location, then save. Keep the HTML file and its companion resource folder together.
- Disconnect from the internet, open the saved HTML file, and inspect the images and styling you need.
Mozilla notes that the complete-page option may not preserve the original HTML link structure. If retaining that structure matters more than keeping images, choose Web page, HTML only; it saves the HTML without pictures. Mozilla also describes using the Page Info window’s Media panel to save individual page elements, including images, scripts, and stylesheets.
Choose a single-file archive instead
A single file is easier to move or attach than an HTML file and a companion folder. The trade-off is the format and how well it works for your particular page. Test the saved copy rather than assuming that packaging resources will preserve a site’s interactive behavior, remote content, or exact appearance.

Chrome MHTML
Chrome’s chrome.pageCapture API provides a way to save a tab as MHTML, a single-file format that Chrome for Developers describes as including the page and resources such as CSS and images. This is an API route rather than a promise that every Chrome user will see a particular save-format option in the browser’s ordinary Save page as dialog. SingleFile
SingleFile is an extension and CLI project that describes saving a complete webpage as one HTML file and lists support for multiple browsers and formats. Because extension support and permissions can change, check its current project documentation and the listing for your browser before installing it.

How to check that the archive is usable
- Open the saved copy while offline, not just while the original site is still reachable.
- Check the specific images and CSS-dependent layout you need to preserve.
- For Firefox’s complete-page save, keep the HTML file beside its companion directory.
- If links, scripts, interactive controls, or remote content matter, test those separately; the cited documentation does not promise that they will work exactly as they did online.
- If the copy is incomplete, try another method and compare the offline result. Pick based on whether you prefer a companion folder or one file, need images and styling, and care about original link structure.
