Affiliate Creators generally need at least 1,000 followers, must be 18 or older and US-based, and must meet TikTok’s policy and verification requirements. Some approved creators below 5,000 followers may start with limited pilot access rather than full capabilities.
Apply in TikTok Studio
- Open TikTok and go to Profile → menu → TikTok Studio.
- Under Monetization, select TikTok Shop for Creator.
- Tap Join now and complete the application for review.
- Follow any prompts TikTok shows for age confirmation or identity verification, and check the in-app page for your application or pilot status.

Check whether you qualify as an Affiliate Creator
TikTok Shop has several creator account types. An Affiliate Creator self-applies and, if accepted, can access the Product Marketplace without being tied to one seller’s shop. This is the relevant route for creators who want to select products from sellers to promote. Marketing Creator and Official Shop Creator arrangements differ; they are not the same as open access to the affiliate marketplace. - Location: The cited eligibility rules apply to creators based in the United States.
- Followers: Affiliate Creators need at least 1,000 under the US policy.
- Account and policy standing: You must comply with TikTok Shop content rules, Community Guidelines, the Creator Code of Conduct, and other applicable Shop policies. Government, Politician, or Political Party Accounts are excluded. Prior revocation of e-commerce permissions, or certain associations with accounts whose permissions were revoked, can also affect eligibility.
- Verification: You must pass the applicable age and identity checks.
Follower count alone does not guarantee approval. TikTok’s policy does not establish that these US thresholds apply worldwide; check the rules shown for your location and account.

What if you have fewer than 5,000 followers?
Do not treat 5,000 followers as a universal minimum for applying. TikTok’s US onboarding and Affiliate Creator Pilot materials describe a route in which some eligible creators below that level may be admitted after verification and automatically placed in a 30-day pilot. Pilot access can include limits on how often you publish shoppable content, and the limits depend on follower count and account status. TikTok’s onboarding guidance describes graduation criteria that include being onboarded for more than 30 days, having more than 1,000 followers, and passing relevant compliance and security evaluations. Pilot eligibility and graduation are account-specific; meeting a follower threshold by itself does not ensure full capabilities.

Complete age confirmation and identity checks safely

TikTok requires age confirmation before granting creator e-commerce permissions. Its US age-confirmation guidance, dated May 13, 2026, says available methods may include in-app recognition, credit-card authorization, or an ID and selfie check, depending on the flow shown to you. Submit identity details when TikTok requests them
Applicable Affiliate and Marketing Creators may be asked for their full name, date of birth, address, and images of a valid US government-issued identity document, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or the personal-details page of a passport. Prompts may appear in Creator Center or Earnings, or when you try to withdraw. TikTok requires identity verification before applicable creators can withdraw commissions. Understand how affiliate commissions work
TikTok describes affiliate marketing as a commission-based relationship: sellers make qualifying products available, and creators can find products to promote. Any commission depends on the specific seller offer and qualifying activity. There is no universal commission rate, earnings estimate, approval time, or guarantee of free samples established by TikTok’s Affiliate Marketing Policy. If the application or access does not appear
- You cannot find the option: Look in TikTok Studio or Creator tools under Monetization. The app labels may have changed, and eligibility or availability can depend on your location and account.
- You have fewer than 5,000 followers: Check whether TikTok has placed you in the pilot and read the in-app shoppable-content limits instead of assuming you are ineligible.
- You are asked to verify: Complete the prompt through TikTok’s official app flow; age confirmation and identity verification serve different purposes.
- You meet the follower threshold but are not admitted: Review account standing and any policy or verification notices. The threshold is one requirement, not an approval guarantee.
