The Dell 14S DS14260 is a capable everyday and student laptop with a sturdy aluminum chassis, a useful set of ports, and standout battery life in one independent test. Its compromises matter: the reviewed OLED screen is dim in SDR, and the tested Intel Graphics configuration is a poor fit for 3D-heavy work or gaming. This review covers the Intel model tested with a Core Ultra 7 355, 16 GB of memory, 512 GB SSD, and 14-inch 1920 × 1200 OLED touchscreen—not every laptop Dell sells under the 14S name.

Which Dell 14S does this review cover?

Dell’s U.S. listing identifies the Intel laptop as model DS14260. The configuration tested by PCWorld used an Intel Core Ultra 7 355, 16 GB of memory, Intel Graphics, a 512 GB SSD, and a 14-inch 1920 × 1200 OLED touchscreen. Tom’s Guide also reviewed an OLED touch configuration and describes a less expensive starting option with an FHD+ non-touch LCD. Dell’s listing shows Core Ultra 5 322 and Core Ultra 7 355 options, with 16 GB of memory and 512 GB SSD in the configurations surfaced. Dell’s DS14260 listing is the place to confirm the available configuration and price.

There is also an AMD Dell 14S, model DS14265, with Ryzen AI 400 processors. It is a separate SKU; its components and options should not be attributed to the Intel DS14260. Dell’s DS14265 listing identifies that AMD version.

A Dell announcement dated September 2, 2026 describes a student-oriented 14S with 2.8K 120 Hz or 2K 60 Hz display options, but its model number and U.S. retail availability are unresolved. Those specifications should not be assumed to describe the reviewed DS14260.

How good is the Dell 14S for everyday use?

For browsing, office work, video calls, and multitasking, the tested Core Ultra 7 355 configuration has ample capability. Tom’s Guide found it suitable for heavy everyday multitasking. That does not make the Intel Graphics version a strong system for demanding graphics workloads: PCWorld flagged weak 3D performance, and Tom’s Guide found the laptop behind the MacBook Air M5 and XPS 14 in some CPU and video-encoding comparisons.

In practical terms, the reviewed configuration is best understood as a general-purpose laptop, not a gaming machine or a workstation for graphics-intensive creative projects. PCWorld notes that a higher Core Ultra X7 configuration adds Intel Arc graphics, along with more memory and storage. Check the exact processor, graphics, memory, and SSD in the specific configuration before paying more for a model intended for demanding creative work.

How long does the Dell 14S battery last?

Tom’s Guide measured 20 hours and 41 minutes of continuous Wi-Fi web browsing at 150 nits on its Dell 14S review unit. That is a strong result, but it applies to that test configuration and workload; it is not a guarantee of everyday runtime, which changes with screen brightness, applications, wireless use, and other conditions. Tom’s Guide’s review describes its test and result.

Dell separately claims up to 39 hours of local FHD video playback for a Core Ultra 7 355 system with Intel Graphics, an FHD display, 16 GB of memory, and a 1 TB SSD. Dell says that result came from April 2026 lab testing at 150 nits with wireless enabled. It is a manufacturer claim for a different configuration and workload, so it is not directly comparable to Tom’s Guide’s Wi-Fi browsing measurement. Dell’s May 2026 launch post gives the test qualification.

Is the Dell 14S OLED display bright enough?

The reviewed OLED offers strong color, but its brightness is a notable weakness. Tom’s Guide measured 269 nits in SDR and observed that bright sunlight can overpower the screen; PCWorld also listed low brightness as a drawback while praising color. That makes the OLED a less appealing choice if you regularly work outdoors or in bright rooms. Dell also offers an FHD+ non-touch LCD configuration, but the supplied reviews do not establish a measured brightness figure for that panel, so do not assume it is brighter without checking independent testing of the exact model.

Is the Dell 14S well built and easy to carry?

PCWorld describes an all-aluminum design with good rigidity, and Tom’s Guide also praises the more premium feel of the chassis. PCWorld reports a weight of 3.28 pounds and a thickness of 0.61 inches: portable for everyday use, though not an especially extreme thin-and-light design.

What ports does the Intel Dell 14S have?

Dell’s DS14260 listing and the reviews identify two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5 mm headset connection. Dell also lists Wi-Fi 7 and a 70 Wh battery. These are useful provisions for a laptop that can connect to common USB accessories and an external display without relying entirely on a hub. Confirm the port layout on the exact configuration before purchase.

Is the Dell 14S worth buying?

The Intel DS14260 makes the most sense for students and general users who prioritize endurance, a rigid aluminum build, and a broad selection of ports. The tested OLED version is less compelling for bright environments, while the Intel Graphics configuration is not suited to demanding 3D workloads. If you are weighing the OLED against the LCD, or the base graphics against a higher configuration, compare the exact panel, processor, graphics, memory, and storage rather than relying on the shared 14S name.

Dell’s May 2026 launch post said U.S. availability began May 14, 2026, at a starting price of $1,269.99. At the time of the cited research, Dell’s U.S. DS14260 page showed a $1,399.99 configuration; those are dated prices, not assurances of current offers. Check the live listing before deciding whether the configuration’s display and graphics trade-offs are worthwhile.
