How to Appeal a Facebook Decision When Automated Support Closes Your Case

Facebook does not document a universal way to reopen an automated closed case. Find the appeal route that matches the decision Facebook made.

There is no documented universal button or address for reopening a Facebook case simply because automated support marked it closed. The right next step depends on what Facebook decided: whether it removed your content, acted on something you reported, disabled your account, or rejected a Marketplace listing. Open the original decision notice and follow the appeal option attached to that specific decision.

First, identify which decision Facebook made

A closed support case and an appeal of the underlying decision are not necessarily the same thing. Check the original notice and any Support Inbox response, then identify which situation applies:

  • Your own content was removed or restricted: use the review instructions in the notice. Facebook’s Oversight Board guidance says its appeal route comes after an internal review process; it is not a general support-case reopening channel. Facebook: Appeal a content decision to the Oversight Board.
  • You reported someone else’s content: check the report decision in Support Inbox for an option to request another review.
  • Your account was disabled: use the appeal instructions shown when you log in, if the notice provides that route. The cited login guidance is specifically in Facebook’s copyright-removal help, so it should not be treated as a universal procedure for every account restriction.
  • A Marketplace listing was rejected: use the listing-specific review form if Facebook offers one.
  • The issue concerns copyright: follow the instructions in the copyright notice. Copyright disputes can involve distinct legal procedures, so do not substitute a general Community Standards appeal for the notice’s directions.

Keep the decision date, any reference number, and the notice itself. Those details help you select the route that matches the actual decision; they do not guarantee that a closed support case can be reopened.

Request another review of content you reported

Facebook documents a Support Inbox route for some decisions about content you reported. It applies to the report decision, not to every closed support case.

  1. Open Facebook’s profile menu.
  2. Select Help and support, then Support Inbox.
  3. Open Reports about others and select Facebook’s decision message for the report.
  4. Choose See options. If Request another review appears, select it and follow the on-screen instructions.

Facebook says this second review usually happens within 24 hours when the option is available. That is an estimate for this particular review route, not a guaranteed deadline for other support requests. Some report types may not offer another review. See Facebook: What if I disagree with Facebook’s decision regarding content that I reported?

When an Oversight Board appeal may be available

The Oversight Board is a possible escalation for certain content decisions, not a way to challenge every support response or account action. Facebook requires the relevant internal review first. Its guidance says the content must have been reviewed twice, and the Board accepts only some eligible appeals.

  1. Complete the Facebook review steps for your own content, or request another review of content you reported when that option is offered.
  2. If you still disagree after the required reviews, check whether the decision is eligible for an Oversight Board appeal.
  3. If eligible, submit the appeal within 15 days of the decision date, following Facebook’s instructions.

Facebook states: “Before you can appeal Facebook’s content decision to the Oversight Board, you must first go through the request a review process on your content or on the content that you reported.” It also says: “Remember that you have 15 days from when the decision was made to appeal to the Oversight Board.” Eligibility is limited, and submitting an eligible appeal does not mean the Board will select it. See Facebook’s Oversight Board appeal guidance.

Routes for disabled accounts and rejected Marketplace listings

Disabled account in a copyright-removal situation

Facebook’s copyright-removal help says that if an account has been disabled, the person can log in and follow the on-screen instructions to appeal. That instruction appears in a copyright-specific context; it does not establish that every disabled or restricted account has the same appeal path. Follow the exact notice associated with your account. If you are unsure which copyright procedure applies, Facebook advises seeking legal advice. Rejected Marketplace listing

For certain unapproved Marketplace listings, Facebook offers a form to ask for another look. Use it only for the listing in question, and check the listing again in about 24 hours, as Facebook’s Marketplace guidance advises. This product-specific process is not a general appeal form for an account decision or closed support case. Facebook Messenger Help Centre: Appeal a decision about your Marketplace listing.

What to do if the case status only says “closed”

The official instructions described above do not establish a general way to reopen a case because automated support closed it, nor do they identify a universal appeal address. Return to the original decision notice and check the relevant Support Inbox entry for a visible review option, case status, or reference route. If the notice offers no further step, the available guidance does not promise that Facebook will reopen the case or provide a human response.

Meta Verified is not a documented workaround for this problem. Facebook describes chat and email support for active creator subscribers with account and subscription issues, but does not say the service can reopen every closed appeal. Do not buy a subscription on the assumption that it will change an appeal outcome. Facebook: Get support for Meta Verified creators.

  • Do not give your password or authentication codes to a third party promising reinstatement.
  • Do not pay someone who claims they can bypass Facebook’s process or guarantee a favorable decision.
  • Use only options shown in Facebook’s own notice, Support Inbox, or the relevant feature-specific help flow.
