To let players teleport through Waygates with resources in their inventory, disable the server’s bound-items teleport restriction: set the relevant boolean to false in ServerGameSettings.json, or change the corresponding option in your hosting panel’s Game Settings. Save the change and restart the server. Check the game-settings preset as well: a preset can override a manual edit.

What the setting changes
V Rising’s default Waygate restriction prevents players from teleporting with most items. Plant fibres, wood and stones are allowed by default; other inventory items block teleporting. Disabling the bound-items restriction lets players teleport with a full inventory, according to hosting-provider guides.

Choose how to change the setting

Both methods change the same server behavior. If the hosting panel exposes the setting, it is generally the simpler way to avoid editing the wrong file or location. Use one method at a time, and confirm the saved value after the server has restarted.

Change it in a hosting panel
- Stop the server. Use the host’s server controls to stop it before editing. This prevents the running server from continuing to use its previous configuration while you change the setting.
- Open the server’s Game Settings. Find the setting that controls whether bound items prevent teleporting. The exact label can vary by panel; the available guidance does not establish one universal current label.
- Select the Custom preset if the panel has a Game Settings Preset control. A preset can restore preset values over a manual configuration change. Shockbyte’s guide specifically advises choosing Custom before editing. If your panel offers no preset control, continue to the setting.
- Disable the restriction. Set the bound-items teleport option to false, or turn off the equivalent restriction in a panel that presents it as an on/off control. Do not confuse this with a setting that enables item binding.
- Save the configuration, then restart the server. Wait for it to finish starting before testing in game.
- Test with a Waygate and a non-exempt resource. Carry an item that the default restriction would block, such as ore, and attempt to teleport. If the attempt is still blocked, use the troubleshooting steps below rather than assuming the change worked.
Change the JSON file manually
The file is named ServerGameSettings.json. Guides report two possible locations, depending on the server setup:
/save-data/Settings/ServerGameSettings.jsonVRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json
These are reported paths, not a guarantee that either one matches every installation. A hosting provider may expose the file through its configuration editor instead of showing the underlying path. On a self-run server, check the settings directory used by that installation and confirm that you are editing the file the server actually loads.

- Stop the server. Do not edit the live settings file while the server is running.
- Open the active
ServerGameSettings.json. If you have more than one copy, establish which one belongs to the server instance you start. Editing an unused copy will have no effect. - Find the existing bound-items teleport setting. Set its boolean value to
false. The exact JSON key name is not established here, so do not add a guessed key or copy a key from an unrelated build. Use the setting already present in your current file, or use the host’s Game Settings editor to identify it. - Preserve valid JSON. Change only the relevant value, keep surrounding punctuation and quotation marks intact, and save the file. A malformed JSON file may prevent the server from loading the intended settings.
- Check the preset configuration. If the server or panel has a game-settings preset, select Custom or clear the preset value if that is how the installation represents an unset preset. A 2022 Steam Community report says a preset overrode edits to
ServerGameSettings.json; this is a single-user report, so treat it as a troubleshooting lead rather than a confirmed rule for all current versions. - Restart the server and test in game. Confirm the change with an item that the default rule blocks, such as ore, and a Waygate.
Why a saved edit may not take effect
A preset may restore another value
If you edited the file but teleporting remains restricted, check whether the Game Settings Preset is set to a preset rather than Custom. A hosting guide recommends selecting Custom before changing settings. A Steam Community post from 2022 also reports that a preset value overrode file edits, but that report is not enough to establish that this happens on every server or current build.
The wrong file may have been edited
The reported paths differ, and a machine can contain more than one settings file. Confirm that you changed the file used by the server instance you operate. When a hosting panel provides a Game Settings editor, using it can reduce the chance of changing an inactive copy.

The server may not have been restarted
Save the configuration and restart the server after changing it. Then test after the server has completed startup; a saved file alone does not confirm that the running server loaded the new value.
The item may not be covered as expected
The documented default distinction is that plant fibres, wood and stones are permitted, while other inventory items block Waygate travel. The setting’s full scope is less certain: some reports describe resources such as ore, while a commenter says weapons, armor and gear are included. Test the specific item types your players care about rather than assuming that “resources” or “full inventory” covers every category on every build.

An item already in the world may behave differently
A Steam Community post reports that changing the toggle affected only items created after the change, leaving older items bound. This is low-confidence, single-post evidence, not an established behavior for all versions. If a particular existing item still blocks travel after the setting change, test with a newly acquired item before concluding that the server setting failed.

- Restarted the server after saving the setting.
- Confirmed the setting is disabled, rather than enabled.
- Checked that the server is using the edited file or the intended panel configuration.
- Set the preset to Custom, if a preset control is present.
- Tested Waygate travel with the exact resources and equipment players expect to carry.
- Tested an item acquired after the change if an older item remains blocked.
These checks distinguish a configuration problem from an item-specific or existing-item behavior. The available reports do not establish a universal test matrix for every current V Rising build, so use the live server as the final check.
