To let Discord use your microphone or camera in desktop Chrome, allow the relevant permission when Chrome prompts you. If you blocked it before, change Discord’s permission in Chrome’s Site settings, then retry the call. Microphone and camera access are separate permissions, and your computer may also require its own permission.
Allow Discord when Chrome asks

Open discord.com in Chrome and start or join the voice channel or video call where you want to use the device.

When Chrome asks to use your microphone or camera, choose an Allow option. Chrome may offer “Allow while visiting the site” or “Allow this time.” Choose the microphone permission for voice and the camera permission for video; allow both if you need both features. Return to Discord and try the call. If Chrome does not prompt you, or you denied access earlier, change the site permission using the steps below.

Change a permission you blocked earlier

In Chrome, open the three-dot menu and choose Settings.

Go to Privacy and security > Site settings.

Choose Microphone, find Discord in the blocked sites list, and change its permission to Allow or remove the exception. If you need video, repeat this under Camera. Labels and layout can vary by Chrome version.

Return to Discord and retry. For a blocked microphone, Discord recommends joining a voice channel and choosing Allow when Chrome prompts again. See Discord’s microphone permission instructions for Chrome.

If Chrome allows access but the device still does not work
Permission has several layers: Chrome’s permission for the site, your operating system’s permission for the browser, Discord’s device and input settings, and the voice channel’s permissions. Check the layer that matches the symptom.
Chrome says it cannot use the microphone or camera
Follow Chrome’s prompt to open your computer’s settings and enable the relevant microphone or camera permission. The operating-system steps and setting names vary by device, so use the prompt rather than assuming a particular menu path. A Chrome site permission does not override an operating-system block. On a work or school browser, an administrator may control camera and microphone settings.
The call connects, but your microphone is silent

Check that the headset or microphone is not physically muted and that Discord is not muted.

In Discord, open User Settings > Voice & Video and select the intended input device. Check the input mode as well.

Check your computer’s default recording device and input level. Google includes these among its suggested microphone checks.

Your camera does not appear

Confirm that Chrome allows camera access for Discord and that your computer allows Chrome to use the camera.

In Discord’s User Settings > Voice & Video, check the selected camera and camera controls. Discord notes that browser users may need to enable camera access in the browser and accept its Allow prompt; see Discord’s video-call guidance.

Check the camera connection and USB port, then see whether the camera works in another app. If it does not, the issue may not be Discord’s site permission.
The problem affects only one server or channel
Ask a moderator to check that channel’s voice permissions. Discord identifies Connect for joining, Speak for microphone use, and Video for camera use as relevant permissions.
Basic checks do not resolve it
Check browser compatibility, operating-system updates, and device connections. Then retry the call; if needed, restart Chrome or the device. For supported devices and further troubleshooting, consult the Discord beginner guide and Chrome’s camera and microphone help.
