To unblock a pop-up in Chrome, either allow it for the site that needs it or change Chrome’s default pop-up setting. On a computer, open More ⋮ > Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects. On Android, go to More ⋮ > Settings > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects. On iPhone or iPad, go to More ⋮ > Settings > Content Settings > Block Pop-ups. Google’s instructions are platform-specific, so follow the section for your device.
Allow pop-ups for one website
A one-site exception is usually the more limited choice when a page’s sign-in, payment, or other feature needs a pop-up. Chrome shows a blocked-pop-up indicator or message on the affected page; use it to allow the pop-up for that site.

On a computer
- Open the page where Chrome blocked the pop-up.
- Select Pop-up blocked in the address bar.
- Select the pop-up link you want to inspect.
- Choose the option to always allow pop-ups and redirects from that site, then select Done.
To revoke that exception later, open More ⋮ > Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects. Find the site in the allowed list and change it to Block. For a domain and its subdomains, Google documents the site pattern [*.]example.com. Google Chrome Help: Computer instructions.

Return to the page and tap Always show when Chrome presents that option beneath its blocked-pop-up message. Google Chrome Help: Android instructions.

Return to the page and tap Always show beneath the Pop-ups blocked message. Google Chrome Help: iPhone and iPad instructions.
Change Chrome’s default pop-up setting
Chrome blocks pop-ups by default. If you change the default to allow them, the choice applies more broadly than a single-site exception. The setting is named Pop-ups and redirects on computers and Android, while the iPhone and iPad setting is called Block Pop-ups.

On a computer
- Open Chrome and select More ⋮ > Settings.
- Select Privacy and security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
- Choose the default behavior you want.
When Chrome blocks a pop-up, it marks the event in the address bar. Google’s computer instructions describe the setting and its available site permissions in Chrome Help.

- Open Chrome and tap More beside the address bar.
- Tap Settings > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
- Change the setting.

- Open Chrome and tap More > Settings.
- Tap Content Settings > Block Pop-ups.
- Turn Block Pop-ups on or off as desired.

Check notification permissions
Website notifications are separate from pop-ups. If messages continue after you adjust the pop-up setting, the site may have permission to send notifications. On a computer, open the site’s information control, find Notifications, and set it to Block. Google also documents managing site permissions in Chrome Help.

Watch for signs of unwanted software
Pop-up ads or new tabs that will not go away, browser settings changing without permission, extensions that return after removal, unfamiliar redirects, or virus alerts can be signs of unwanted software or malware. These symptoms alone do not prove that a device is infected. Do not click suspicious pop-ups asking you to update or download software; visit the program’s official website instead. Google lists these symptoms and cautions in Remove unwanted ads, pop-ups & malware.
Check whether the setting is managed
On a Chrome device used at work or school, an administrator may manage the pop-up setting. If Chrome will not let you change it, ask your organization’s administrator.
