PC Slower Than It Used to Be?

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo allow a blocked website safely, first identify which control blocked it—such as a network firewall, proxy, browser policy, endpoint web filter, or malware warning. Verify the site and the reason access is needed, then make the narrowest exception that control supports, limit who or what it applies to, and review or expire it when the need ends. Do not disable the firewall or endpoint protection to get one site working.
Identify what is blocking the website
A failed page load does not by itself mean the firewall is responsible. Different controls enforce different rules, and an exception in one may not affect another.

- Network firewall or proxy: May block traffic based on network rules, destination, or organizational policy.
- Endpoint web filtering: May block a site because it falls into a restricted content category.
- Browser URL policy: An organization may explicitly allow or block URLs in the browser. Microsoft Edge’s URLAllowlist is one example; it is a browser policy, not a firewall rule. Microsoft’s documentation says the most specific matching filter determines the result, and the allowlist takes precedence over the blocklist: Microsoft Edge URLAllowlist policy.
- Threat protection: A malware, phishing, or credential-theft warning is different from a category restriction and should not be treated as a routine access request.
Start by recording the exact error or warning, hostname and path, browser, device, and security product. If possible, check whether the same site is blocked on another trusted device or network. That can help narrow down the control, but it does not establish that the site is safe.

If a threat warning appears, report the suspected false positive through the security vendor’s review process instead of creating an allow rule as the first step. For Microsoft Edge SmartScreen, Microsoft directs users to the reporting link on the block page when they believe a site has been incorrectly identified as dangerous. See Microsoft’s overview of web protection in Defender for Endpoint.
Choose the exception that matches the block
Use the current instructions for the product and version that produced the block. Do not substitute a broad firewall rule for a browser or endpoint policy exception.

| Endpoint web-content category policy in Microsoft Defender for Endpoint | An authorized administrator can create a custom URL/domain indicator with an Allow action, descriptive title, expiry, and device-group scope. | This is a Defender for Endpoint capability, not a setting available in every Windows Security installation. For HTTPS, full URL paths can be blocked only in Edge; other browsers may require a domain-level indicator, which can affect other services on that domain. Microsoft documentation and web protection overview. |
| Microsoft Edge URL policy | Use the Edge URLAllowlist policy when the browser policy is the source of the block. | It controls browser URL access, not network firewall traffic. The most specific matching filter decides the result. Microsoft documentation. |
| Network firewall, proxy, or another endpoint product | Use that product’s own documented policy mechanism, with the smallest supported destination and scope. | The Microsoft Defender indicator workflow does not describe a universal firewall procedure. |
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint’s web content filtering documentation lists supported plans, environments, operating systems, browsers, permissions, and protection prerequisites. Apply a narrow, reviewable change
When the block is a verified category-policy false positive and your organization uses Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, an authorized administrator can add a custom URL/domain indicator, provide a descriptive title, choose an expiry, select Allow, and scope it to the device group that needs access. Microsoft says an allow indicator takes precedence over web content filtering policies. This precedence is specific to the documented Defender product; it does not mean an allow indicator overrides every threat verdict or every other control. The product steps and requirements are documented in Microsoft’s web content filtering guide.

- hEX also known as RB750Gr3 is a five port Gigabit Ethernet router for locations where wireless connectivity is not required
- The device has a full size USB port. This new updated revision of the hEX brings several improvements in performance
- It is affordable, small and easy to use, but at the same time comes with a very powerful dual core 880MHz CPU and 256MB RAM
- IPsec hardware encryption (~470 Mbps) and The Dude server package is supported, microSD slot on it provides improved r/w speed for file storage and Dude
- Dimensions: 113x89x28mm; Storage size: 16 MB; Passive PoE (PoE in); PCB temperature monitor, Voltage monitor and Mode button
For any product, keep the exception no broader than necessary:
- Prefer a specific hostname or URL over a wildcard or broad domain when the product supports that precision. Broad rules may expose unrelated paths or services.
- Scope access to the users or device group that require it rather than the whole organization.
- Set an expiry or review date for temporary access, and record the reason and owner.
- Do not turn off real-time protection, disable the firewall, or create an all-traffic allowance to solve a single-site problem.
Validate the change and remove it when no longer needed
After the policy change, test the intended page and check the product’s logs or reports to confirm the relevant policy and scope. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint provides web activity reports, and its indicator guidance notes that changes may take up to 48 hours to apply, though most take effect in under two hours. If a Defender indicator has not taken effect immediately, allow for propagation before making the exception broader: Microsoft’s indicator guidance.

Do not confuse a website exception with Defender service connectivity
Allowing a website for a user is not the same as permitting Microsoft Defender for Endpoint to reach its own backend services. Administrators should use Microsoft’s current destination list for their connectivity method and tenant geography. For streamlined connectivity, Microsoft says traffic to *.endpoint.security.microsoft.com should bypass SSL/TLS inspection, HTTPS interception, and MITM proxying. Its documentation warns: “If you enable SSL inspection, Defender for Endpoint sensors might fail to communicate with backend services, resulting in onboarding or connectivity failures.” These are service-connectivity requirements, not a recommendation to exempt ordinary websites from security inspection. See Configure network connectivity to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
