A VR headset should stay steady without squeezing, and your eyes should sit in a clear part of the lenses. The controls differ by model: strap tension, visor distance, and lens spacing may be separate adjustments. The steps below give a complete example for PlayStation VR2; for another headset, follow its manufacturer’s instructions rather than assuming the controls work the same way.
Adjust a PlayStation VR2 for a stable, clear view
Use the PS VR2’s headband, scope, and lens adjustment as separate controls. Sony’s PS VR2 fit instructions describe the headset-specific procedure.

- Clean the lenses. Check that the lenses are clean before putting on the headset.
- Move the scope out. Press the scope adjustment button and pull the scope fully outward.
- Position the headband. Press the rear headband release button and pull the headband back. Place it over the lower back of your head, with the band close to your ears. Sony cautions that wearing it high can make the headset unstable.
- Tighten only until it holds. Turn the headband adjustment dial clockwise until the band is secure and locked. Do not aim for maximum tightness. To loosen it, press the release button.
- Bring the scope toward your face. Press the scope adjustment button and move the scope closer. This changes the visor’s position relative to your face; it does not change the spacing between the lenses.
- Adjust lens spacing. Turn the lens adjustment dial to change the distance between the lenses.
- Fine-tune the image position. On PS5, open the PlayStation VR2 card in Control Center, select Adjust Visibility, and follow the on-screen instructions. Move the headband and scope up, down, left, or right as needed. When the view is right, tighten the headband dial to secure the position.
Sony says the PS VR2 scope adjustment range is 59–72 mm. That is the product’s stated adjustment range, not a measurement of an individual user’s interpupillary distance. For a clear view, Sony advises positioning your eyes in the middle of the lenses and using the console’s visibility adjustment.

Know which fit adjustment changes what
- Strap or headband tension helps keep the headset in place. Adjust it enough to stop slipping, not to the tightest possible setting.
- Scope or visor distance moves the front of the headset closer to or farther from your face. On PS VR2, use the scope adjustment button.
- Lens spacing changes the distance between the lenses. On PS VR2, use the lens adjustment dial.
These controls are not universal. A different headset may use another mechanism, combine adjustments, or lack a separate lens-spacing control. Check its own manual before applying model-specific steps.

Wear glasses carefully
Sony says glasses can be worn with PS VR2, but unusually wide or shaped frames may not fit. For original PlayStation VR, Sony advises moving the scope slowly and avoiding contact between glasses and headset lenses, since contact can damage either. Do not force the visor against your frames.
For original PS VR, Sony’s quick start guide similarly says to tighten the headband only enough to stop movement, not so far that it feels too tight. These are Sony-specific directions; consult the manufacturer’s guidance for other models.

If the headset still slips, feels uncomfortable, or looks blurry
- Recheck that the headband sits in the intended position rather than too high, and tighten only enough to keep it stable.
- On PS VR2, verify that you used the scope control for face distance and the lens dial for lens spacing, then run Adjust Visibility on PS5.
- If you wear glasses, check that the frames fit without pressing against the headset lenses.
- If adjustment does not resolve discomfort or blur, consult support instructions for your exact headset model. There is no universal adjustment or medical troubleshooting procedure established here.
