On a PS5 Pro, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. PlayStation says the option is on by default and is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. It affects image quality in certain compatible games; it does not guarantee a higher frame rate or resolution in every game.

Where to find the Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting

  1. On the PS5 Pro, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
  2. Select Enhance PSSR Image Quality to check or change its state. PlayStation says it is enabled by default.
  3. To disable it, return to the same option and turn it off. You can re-enable it there at any time.

Sony’s PS5 Pro support guide identifies the eligible consoles as the CFI-7000 model group. If you have a different PS5 model group, the setting is not documented as available for your console.

What the setting changes—and what it does not

PlayStation describes the control as improving image quality in certain games compatible with PSSR. Its PS5 Pro product page says Enhanced PSSR can improve fine-detail clarity and image stability in supported titles, while noting that results vary by game.

This is a system-level image-quality control, not a universal switch that adds PSSR to every game. It also does not promise a particular resolution, frame rate, or visual result. Whether you notice a difference depends on the title and your visual preference.

  • Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
  • Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
  • Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
  • Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.

How PSSR differs from the Resolution setting

Enhance PSSR Image Quality and Resolution are separate options under Video Output. PlayStation says the console detects the connected TV’s capabilities; in the Resolution menu, Automatic selects the highest resolution supported by that TV. PSSR is Sony’s AI-enhanced resolution technology for 4K TV output in compatible games, but Sony’s instructions do not say a 4K TV is required just to toggle the Enhance PSSR option.

HDR, VRR, and 120 Hz Output are other display-output options, not PSSR controls. Their use depends on the connected display and, in some cases, the game. For example, 120 Hz output requires a TV and game that support 120 Hz, while VRR behavior depends on the TV. They are not universal settings to change just because you have enabled PSSR.

The list can change, so check the current official PS5 Pro game information for a particular title. PlayStation’s figures of more than 100 PS5 titles enhanced for PS5 Pro and over 8,500 playable PS4 games describe broader PS5 Pro compatibility; neither figure is a count of Enhanced PSSR games.

Choose the setting based on the game

Leave the switch on if you want to use Sony’s system-level enhancement in a listed compatible game. If you prefer the image with it off, disable it in Video Output and compare the game for yourself. Sony does not provide title-specific guidance that switching it off will fix any particular visual artifact.

Some games also offer their own PS5 Pro graphics modes. Those choices are made inside the individual game and are distinct from the system-level PSSR switch. For example, Naughty Dog’s Lead Programmer Vincent Marxen described a PS5 Pro mode for The Last of Us Part II Remastered that renders at 1440p and upscales to 4K with PSSR while targeting 60 fps. That statement applies to that game’s specific mode, not to all PSSR-compatible games.
