To change your Android screen’s brightness, color tone, or eye-comfort settings, open your phone’s display settings and choose the control for your goal. On Pixel phones, start at Settings → Display & touch; on Samsung Galaxy devices, start at Settings → Display. Names and availability vary by model and software version, so search Settings for the feature if the path differs.
Choose the setting that matches what you want to change
Brightness, color tone, dark theme, and dimming are separate controls. For example, a warmer screen is not necessarily a darker screen, and enabling a dark theme does not lower the brightness of every app or page.

- Make the screen brighter or darker: adjust brightness manually, or use adaptive brightness if your device offers it.
- Make screen colors warmer: use Night Light on Pixel or Eye comfort shield on Samsung Galaxy.
- Make menus and supported apps darker: turn on Dark theme or Dark mode.
- Go dimmer than the usual minimum: look for Extra dim on a supported Galaxy device.
Adjust settings on a Google Pixel
Open the display controls
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display & touch.
- Choose the display setting that matches your goal, such as brightness, Night Light, Dark theme, or an available comfort filter.
Google’s Pixel help documents these controls under Display & touch, but the exact options can vary by Pixel model and software. If you do not see a setting, use Settings search for “brightness,” “Night Light,” or “comfort.” See Google’s Pixel display settings guide.
Use Night Light or bedtime dimming
Night Light changes the screen’s color tone toward warmer colors. Pixel’s display settings also include dimming the wallpaper at bedtime on Android 13 and later. These change different aspects of the display: use brightness controls when the whole screen needs to be less bright, and Night Light when you want a warmer appearance.

Adjust settings on a Samsung Galaxy
Change brightness or enable adaptive brightness
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Move the brightness slider to set brightness manually, or turn on Adaptive brightness if you want the phone to adjust brightness in response to ambient lighting.
Some Galaxy display controls may also be available from Quick Settings. Samsung’s labels and options depend on the device and software version. For details, see Samsung’s Galaxy display settings guide.
Turn on Eye comfort shield
In Settings → Display, look for Eye comfort shield. Samsung describes it as applying warmer color; supported devices may offer a color-temperature slider or an enhanced-comfort adjustment. You may also be able to access the control from Quick Settings. If the option is not present, search Settings for “Eye comfort shield.”

Use Extra dim when the minimum brightness is still too high
On supported Galaxy devices, Extra dim reduces brightness below the ordinary minimum. Look for it in Quick Settings or in Settings; its exact location can vary. Samsung’s eye-comfort guide describes Extra dim and other available comfort options.
Understand what each control changes

Find a missing control or shortcut
- Search Settings using the feature name or a related term, such as “brightness,” “Night Light,” “Eye comfort shield,” or “comfort.”
- Check Quick Settings for shortcuts, particularly on Galaxy devices.
- Remember that manufacturer, model, and software version affect which features appear and where they are located.
- On Pixel, Screen protector mode affects touch sensitivity when using a screen protector; it is not a color or eye-comfort adjustment.
These are software controls for the display. The cited manufacturer guides explain how the features work but do not quantify a medical or sleep benefit, so do not treat them as a proven way to prevent eye strain, cure headaches, or improve sleep.
