To add an Arma 3 server to A3Launcher, keep the server online, obtain its Steam query details, enter the server IP and Steam Query Port in A3Launcher’s Server Checker, and select Check. The query port is the game port plus one—for example, game port 2302 uses query port 2303. A listing can take up to 30 minutes to appear, after which you should restart A3Launcher.

What A3Launcher needs before you start
A3Launcher can provide players with a single place to find your server and obtain the mods it needs. Its launcher detects required mods and downloads them through torrent distribution, so players do not have to assemble a mod list manually. The server still has to be reachable and correctly identified before that player experience can work.
- An online Arma 3 server: the server must be running while you submit it to the checker.
- The public server IP address: use the address players will actually enter or see in your hosting panel.
- The Steam Query Port: this is the game port plus one, not the game port itself.
- Firewall access: the ports required by the game and query service must be open according to your host or network configuration.
- A usable mod configuration: A3Launcher must be able to parse the server’s mod parameter and query the server successfully.
If your provider exposes a button such as “Add server to A3Launcher,” it may copy the query information for you. You still need to verify that the copied port is the Steam Query Port and that the server remains online during the check.

Find the IP address and Steam Query Port
Open your game-server control panel or the configuration used to start the server. Locate the public IP and the game port. Then calculate the query port by adding one to the game port.

The relationship is simple: Steam Query Port = game port + 1. If your game port is 2402, the corresponding query port is 2403. Do not substitute a panel’s general management port, an RCON port, or another custom service port unless your provider explicitly identifies it as the Steam query port.

- Start the Arma 3 server. Wait until the control panel reports it as online and the server is ready to accept connections. The check can fail when the process is stopped, restarting, or still loading.
- Copy the query information. If the panel has an “Add server to A3Launcher” action, use it to obtain the server IP and query details. Otherwise, copy the public IP and calculate the Steam Query Port from the game port.
- Open A3Launcher’s Server Checker. Use the add-server or server-checking page associated with A3Launcher. The checker is where the IP and Steam Query Port are submitted; it is not the normal in-game server browser.
- Enter the public IP. Paste the address exactly as supplied by the panel. Remove labels, spaces, or a game-port suffix if the form provides a separate port field.
- Enter the Steam Query Port. Use the game port plus one. For the documented example, a server on game port
2302is checked with2303. - Select Check. Leave the server online while the checker tests it. A successful check does not necessarily make the entry visible instantly.
- Allow propagation time. A3Launcher states that a new server can take up to 30 minutes to appear. After that interval, close and restart A3Launcher so it refreshes its listing data.
Once the entry is available, players should be able to select it in A3Launcher and let the launcher obtain the required mods before joining. A successful check therefore confirms discoverability; it does not replace normal testing of the server, its password settings, or its mod compatibility.
Why the query port matters
The game port and query port perform different jobs. The game port carries the Arma 3 session, while the Steam Query Port exposes the information that a listing service uses to identify and display the server. Entering the game port in the checker can leave the server invisible even when players can connect directly by IP.

Correct port calculation
- Game port
2302→ Steam Query Port2303. - Game port
2402→ Steam Query Port2403. - For any custom game port, add exactly one and confirm the result against your host’s panel.
Firewall and network checks
Open the game and query ports required by your installation. The exact protocol and additional ports depend on your hosting panel, operating system, and network layout, so use the values and protocol labels supplied for your server rather than copying a generic rule. If the server is behind a local router, a cloud security group, or a managed firewall, the rule must allow the public query request to reach the Arma 3 instance.
After changing a firewall rule, restart the server if your provider requires it, run the A3Launcher check again, and keep the process online while testing. A port that is open on the host but blocked by an upstream router or cloud security group will still produce the same symptom as a closed port.

Prepare the mod parameter for detection
A3Launcher reads the server’s mod configuration when it determines what players need. Use the -mod parameter in the format shown by A3Launcher: a Windows path for each mod, separated by semicolons, with the complete value following the equals sign.
-mod=C:mods@mod1;C:mods@mod2;C:mods@mod3;
Keep the following rules in mind:
- Use the actual path to each installed mod directory.
- Separate entries with semicolons; do not replace them with commas or spaces.
- Keep the trailing semicolon when following the documented format.
- Check for spelling, drive-letter, and folder-name errors before running the checker.
- A3Launcher ignores server-side mods containing the word server. Such a mod may be present on the machine but not be treated as a downloadable client requirement.
- Too many server-side mods can prevent detection because of a limitation in Arma’s SteamAPI implementation. If detection fails after the port and firewall checks, review whether the server is carrying an unusually large server-only mod set.
Do not assume that every directory in the server’s mod folder belongs in the client download list. Separate client-required content from server-only components according to the mod author’s instructions, then make the -mod value match the intended player setup.

Troubleshoot a server that does not appear
The checker reports no server or cannot find it
- Confirm the Arma 3 process is online and has finished starting.
- Recalculate the query port from the game port. A one-port error is enough to make the check target the wrong service.
- Verify that the public IP is correct and has not changed since the value was copied.
- Open the required game and query ports in every applicable firewall layer.
- Run the check again while the server remains online.
If a managed host supplies a specific query value, use that value when it differs from an automatically calculated assumption. The decisive question is whether the value is identified as the Steam Query Port, not whether it resembles the game port.
The check succeeds, but the listing is missing immediately
This can be normal. Allow up to 30 minutes for the listing to propagate, then restart A3Launcher. Restarting before the listing has had time to propagate will not make an unprocessed entry appear, while waiting indefinitely without restarting can leave the launcher using an old listing cache.
The server appears, but required mods are not detected
- Inspect the
-modparameter for incorrect separators, missing paths, or malformed drive names. - Check whether a server-only mod directory contains the word “server,” which A3Launcher ignores for detection.
- Reduce or reorganize an excessive server-side mod set; Arma’s SteamAPI limitation can prevent detection when too many are present.
- Confirm that the mod folders named in the parameter exist on the running server, not only in an archive or an unused profile.
Players can see the entry but cannot join
First distinguish listing from gameplay connectivity. A successful query proves that A3Launcher can identify the server; it does not prove that the game port is reachable or that every client has compatible content. Recheck the game-port firewall rule, make sure the server is still online, and verify that players are receiving the same required mod set that the server expects.
The entry disappears later
Keep the server continuously online during normal operation. A3Launcher removes servers that remain offline for 24 hours from the listing until they come back online. Planned maintenance can therefore make the entry temporarily unavailable even when the original check was correct.

Validate the player experience after listing
Perform a complete test from a client that does not already have the server’s mod collection cached. Check that the server can be found, that A3Launcher identifies the required content, and that the client reaches the join stage after downloading it. Testing with a clean client exposes missing paths and incorrectly classified server-only mods that may not be obvious on an administrator’s machine.
- Search for the server by its listing name and confirm that the displayed IP corresponds to the intended instance.
- Allow A3Launcher to finish its mod download rather than launching Arma with a partially updated collection.
- Attempt a normal join while the server is online and stable.
- Repeat after a server restart or mod update to ensure the listing remains valid.
If direct-IP joining works but the A3Launcher path fails, focus on the query port, listing delay, firewall rules, and mod-parameter parsing. If the listing works but direct joining fails, focus on the game port and ordinary Arma server configuration instead.
Self-hosting or a managed game-server host?
Either approach can work. The important difference is who controls the prerequisites that A3Launcher needs. Use the following decision points rather than assuming that one hosting model is universally better.

The available evidence establishes the online-server and query-port requirements but does not provide an independent performance or price benchmark for hosting providers. Compare uptime expectations, query access, port control, mod support, restart tools, location, and total recurring cost for your specific setup.

- Confirm the public IP and game port in the current hosting panel.
- Recalculate the Steam Query Port as game port plus one.
- Verify firewall and security-group rules for the game and query services.
- Keep the server online while running the A3Launcher check.
- Review the
-modvalue for valid paths and semicolon separators. - Check for server-side mod names containing “server.”
- Consider whether the number of server-side mods could trigger SteamAPI detection limits.
- Allow up to 30 minutes for a new listing, then restart A3Launcher.
- Test discovery and joining from a client that does not rely on an old cached mod set.
Bottom line
The reliable sequence is: server online, correct public IP, Steam Query Port equal to game port plus one, required firewall access, valid mod parameter, then a check followed by the full propagation window and a launcher restart. Most “missing server” reports are resolved by correcting the port distinction or allowing the listing time to update; persistent mod-related failures usually require cleaning up the -mod value or reducing server-side mod complexity.
