To add a Sonos home-theater speaker to an LG OLED, connect the speaker to the TV’s HDMI input labeled ARC or eARC, set the TV’s sound output to that HDMI ARC port, and then finish setup in the Sonos app. Menu names and port layouts vary by LG OLED model and software version, and what your Sonos speaker can do depends on its exact model, so confirm both before you buy an adapter or rely on a feature.
Check that your speaker and TV support HDMI ARC
Before connecting anything, look for an HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC on the back or side of your LG OLED, and confirm your Sonos model’s requirements. Sonos’s support article TV requirements for Sonos home theater speakers (accessed October 7, 2026) states the following:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Arc, Arc SL, Arc Ultra, Beam, and Amp need an HDMI ARC port to use CEC control or supported voice-assistant control through the TV.
- Arc, Arc SL, Arc Ultra, and Beam (Gen 2) need an HDMI ARC/eARC connection to play Dolby Atmos from the TV.
- The optical adapter is included only with Arc and Beam.
The table below turns those requirements into one view. Where the Sonos guidance covered here does not address a cell, it says “Not stated” rather than assuming a value.

| Sonos product | HDMI ARC needed for CEC or voice control | ARC/eARC needed for Dolby Atmos from TV | Optical adapter included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arc | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Arc SL | Yes | Yes | Not stated |
| Arc Ultra | Yes | Yes | Not stated |
| Beam | Yes | Yes for Beam (Gen 2); other generations not stated | Yes |
| Amp | Yes | Not stated | Not stated |
Because LG OLED models differ, check the TV’s own specification sheet or manual for its HDMI and optical outputs. LG’s OLED G4 series specification sheet lists eARC (HDMI 2) and an optical digital audio output. That is a single model’s specification, and it does not describe every LG OLED generation or size.

Connect the speaker to the HDMI ARC/eARC port
- Locate the HDMI input labeled ARC or eARC on the TV. Plugging into any other HDMI input will not give you the ARC function.
- Connect the speaker’s HDMI cable from the Sonos product to that port. Sonos’s Arc setup guidance says an HDMI cable is included with Arc, so most Arc owners will not need to buy one. The Sonos app also walks you through the cable and port steps for your specific model.
- LG’s guide I want to connect TV by using the ARC function (published August 14, 2025) describes the same connection: the soundbar’s TV eARC/ARC output goes to the TV’s HDMI ARC input. In LG’s words, “Once you connect your TV and the sound bar by using the ARC function, you can enjoy high quality sounds vividly from the sound bar.”
Set the LG OLED’s sound output to HDMI ARC
Next, tell the TV to send its audio out through that port. LG’s general webOS connection guide, Easy TV Connect Guide, gives this route:
- Go to Sound > Sound Out.
- Select Optical / HDMI (ARC).
Menu names and steps vary by model and software version. If your set labels the option differently, look for the entry in the Sound settings that names HDMI ARC or the external speaker output. If the TV keeps its own speakers selected, the Sonos speaker will not play TV audio.

- 【4K HDMI Audio Converter】This hdmi audio extractor supports extracting audio from HDMI sources to HDMI monitors, optical 5.1CH devices, L/R stereo audio or 3.5mm AUX audio devices. It supports use by connecting only the optical audio output, L/R stereo audio out or the 3.5mm stereo audio output without connecting the display. A Type-C 5V cable must be connected to provide power for proper operation(Note: Do not connect a TV as a signal source directly to the HDMI IN port or it will not work)
- 【HDMI ARC Audio Extractor】In ARC mode(Backward compatible with ARC), connect your TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port to the “HDMI OUT” port to send audio to external speakers. (Tips: Enable CEC on your TV, set the DIP switch to “TV” mode, and use an HDMI cable with ARC/eARC support.)
- 【Triple Operating Modes】1. PASS Mode: Automatically mirrors your TV’s native audio. Optical output supports all multi-channel formats.(Note: Analog R/L & AUX ports support 2.0 PCM only; non-PCM inputs will cause digital buzz/noise); 2. R/L Mode: Universally downmixes all formats (PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD) into standard 2.0 PCM. Delivers synchronized stereo sound across R/L, AUX, and Optical ports simultaneously; 3. SPDIF Mode: Dedicated multi-channel surround sound mode. Optical output supports all premium bitstream audio formats. (Note: Analog ports require PCM input to function; other formats will result in a static hum).
- 【4K@60Hz High Resolution】Supports up to 4K@60Hz with 24-bit, 30-bit, and 36-bit color. Backward compatible with 4K@60Hz 4K@30Hz, 2K@120Hz, and 1080P. Please make sure your source, monitor, HDMI cable all support 4K60Hz resolution in order to finally achieve the highest 4K60Hz resolution

Finish setup in the Sonos app
Sonos’s support article Set up your Sonos Arc states the key requirement directly: “Your Arc needs to be set up using the Sonos app before it can play TV audio.” Open the Sonos app, add the speaker, and follow its prompts for the cable and port connection you just made.
Once setup is complete, play something through the TV. To confirm the incoming audio format, check the Sonos app, which shows Dolby Atmos reception when the speaker is receiving it.

If your LG OLED has no HDMI ARC port
Sonos documents an optical connection as a fallback for compatible products. It is the route to use only when the TV has no HDMI ARC or eARC port and your Sonos model supports the optical path. The trade-offs are significant, so compare them before choosing:
| Connection | When it fits | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI ARC/eARC | Recommended when both the LG OLED and the Sonos model support it | Required for Dolby Atmos from the TV. It also supports CEC and voice control on compatible setups. |
| Optical with Sonos adapter | Compatible Arc or Beam setup where the TV has no ARC port | No CEC or voice control of the TV through the optical connection. Atmos is not available over optical. |
Bluetooth is not a substitute for either connection in a home-theater setup. The HDMI ARC/eARC route is the one Sonos’s TV setup guidance covers.
